Diablo II. End of thread.
I guess it had a whole bunch of different optimization routes, but there was so little interpersonal interaction that I'd hardly call it an RPG. Nevertheless, it was fun enough to re-install on my computer recently.

Planescape Torment, with Fallout 2 not far behind. A lot of games that barely qualify as RPGs mentioned in this thread I see.

Baldur's Gate II was my favourite, Planescape Torment is just awesome, closely followed by Morrowind.

But my opinion is right because I can shout the loudest!
That's the spirit!

I'm going to have to go with Seiken Densetsu 3 or Chrono Trigger. I always finding myself playing them again every few years.

IN ORDER:

1. Chrono Trigger (hellooooo childhood)
2. Final Fantasy IV (hellooooo more childhood)
3. Final Fantasy VI (best characterization in any RPG, if not game)
4. Final Fantasy VII (Sephiroth is overrated, but the game is no)
5. Chrono Cross (soooo doesn't deserve the hate it gets)

Planescape: Torment. Anyone who disagrees either hasn't played it or didn't read any of the text. (Or doesn't enjoy actual RPGs and enjoys stat building games, instead.)

I remember playing Fallout as a little kid and liking it a lot, and from what I can remember, it was actually an RPG. I have it installed on my HD but it has a weird coloring glitch.

I haven't played many RPGs, but I have played many of the newer games mentioned here and they're more just shooters with light RPG elements. Probably the best and most diverse of these, though a little short is Call of Pripyat. I want to get Bloodlines.

Any game claiming itself to be an RPG that manages to attract my interest and keep it (as well as cause me ENJOYMENT) is a winner in my book.

Out of the ones I've actually played...

Pokemon Gold/Silver
Mass Effect 1&2 (definitely the most immersive imo)
Final Fantasy 10. Yeah I said it.

Bah, I see your FFX and raise you:
Final Fantasy VIII
Persona 3 FES
Fallout 3 + DLC

All three I love just about equally. Sure there's a little bit of nostalgia with FFVIII as it was both my first FF and first JRPG, but I actually quite liked the story and characters in it and the Junction system, while easily broken, was quite an interesting system they implemented.
