Topic should explain it. The other day me and some friends were playing Dragon Age: Origins when one of them said it sucked. Thus led to me watching an argument of what RPG-based game was best. The two I heard most were Final Fantasy VII and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I didn't know what to think. What's your opinion?

I'd like to say Mass Effect 2 but the RPG elements were seriously dumbed down. Regardless it is an RPG and one of my favourite games ever so I shall go with it anyway.

Although I haven't played many RPG's though I suppose. The Knights of The Old Republic games, Mass Effects and Fallout 3 are pretty much my experience with them. I am not particularly into the whole 'Fantasy' setting.

Well I'd say the most important, influential and had the biggest impact RPG of all time would probably be FF7 or Baldur's Gate.

Ocarina isn't an RPG by the way.

EDIT: Oh yeah and Chrono Trigger.

Chrono Trigger. Duh. Those who say otherwise probably didn't play it. Or, y'know, have a different opinion because interpretation of quality past a certain point of competency is entirely subjective.

But my opinion is right because I can shout the loudest!

i dont know but the one i had the most fun unlocking were the old myst games and they were basic click puzzle game with a decent story ...but nothing beats the snes rpgs classic which in my opinion are the templates for most of the great rpgs we play to date....;)

deus ex: epic plot, good gameplay mechanics, introduced the art of "you dont have to kill everyone" and had great voice acting for the time, which i still think is better than most modern games

The best RPG is obviously Morrowind.
Seconded - Oblivion was like it's prettier sister but then you swiftly find that other than the nice body she as thick as two short planks.

Morrowind had an immersion factor that was really quite brilliant add on to that a main quest that was truely epic and you have yourself a great RPG.

The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind
Pokemon Red/Blue (and possibly also Gold/Silver)
Final Fantasy IX
Diablo II + Lord of Destruction expansion
Fallout 3 (No, I never played Fallout 1 or 2)
