Shit, not if France, Germany and probably the rest of Europe have anything to say about it. Cameron just wants to be able to put more American bases in Turkey (you heard me) to scare Iran and Russia. I'll start taking their bid seriously when they decide that to admit to the genocide they committed, until then I have a better chance of becoming Pope.

OT: I reckon the next words out of the bride's mouth were "I think we should get a divorce", and if they weren't, they should be.
What genocide?

OT: May I say: "EPIC FAIL!"?
The genocide of millions (yes millions) of Armenians, Assyrians and Greeks. I've heard some nasty stories from the older relos (I'm half Assyrian) about what the Turks did. For example placing rafts full of people in the water, then setting those rafts on fire. It's something the world knows is true, but the Turks still won't admit to.

You got your source from the telegraph. Do some proper research next time.
Whats your problem?

Firstly, i read it in a paper called the Irish Examiner.

For some reason the Examiner didn't have a copy of the article online so i just clicked on the next link in the google search which happened to be the Telegraph.

Secondly, Its a fun article, and i posted it to give people a laugh. If i wanted a serious discussion i'd have put this in the politics and religion section with a question or poll attached.

thirdly, keep your tabloid/broadsheet snobbery to yourself thanks.

That was in response to the people calling Turks in general dense as rocks. I'm not defending the guy, he's an irresponsible noob fool.
Yeah, but could you honestly say that this would be the first time ever that a person from an islamic country use an ak47 in an irresponsible manner?

It wouldn't be the first time for me..
Christ, I can see where this thread is fucking going already.

I fail to understand why ANY country permits it's civilians to wander around with fully automatic assault weapons in the first place! What possible use could you have for them??

While I'm not prepared to get into the 'right to bear arms' debate (which I really think should exclude such weapons), even if you assume that owning such a weapon is legitimate, it should be locked up in a gun club or something!

This is a case of bad luck for the idiot involved... and a case of 'yer-all-dumbasses' for the country involved. Responsible gun-ownership or not... this says far more about the country as a whole and their attitude towards weapons than it says about the particular idiot involved this time.

Wow sure is xenophobic in here.
I'm sorry, but any culture that is notorious for firing live rounds of ammunition, from a fully automatic assault rifle no less, wildly into the air at a celebration that tends to have large crowds of people.... is pretty fucking retarted. Nothing personal against them, but obviously that tradition needs rethinking.
Actually, I remember reading a study of European countries' average intelligence, and the Turks managed an average IQ of about 90 IIRC. Poland were highest on 107.

Also, I love "if we're all supposed to be "human" and equal and all that idealistic and politically correct bullshit". You think equality and "being human" are too "politically correct"?
Yes. Or rather this so called "intristic human value"-talk that every idealistic little prick tend to bring up. The only thing humans have in common is that they're all equally worthless piles of biological waste as anything else.
"They're" As though you're not one of us. Anyway, none of that contradicts equality or "being human", so what you said before was something completely different. Anyhow:

But for some reason, some of us manages to put a stop to idiots firing ak47:s at weddings. Not just individually but collectively.

So what fucking excuse could the turks have in this matter?
When was the last time you tried to get your government to put a stop to something? Seems you have a lot of experience in the matter...

Oh That Dude said:
And because they haven't restricted it enough yet? Just means their systems/politicians/etc etc ad nauseam aren't as good. Doesn't give you or anyone else the right to judge the people who have little to no power over the law.
Politicians can only rule if the people let them rule over them. If the people were actually smart enugh to see through their wicked ways they should rebell against their politicians. But they don't.
Right, so your point is that the Turkish people aren't clever enough to overthrow their fucking government because they haven't yet prevented idiocy and guns mixing. I'm sorry but that argument is full of shit.

The decison on whether Turkey will be allowed into the EU won't happen for around 15 more years... and the increasing number of international conflicts should push the price of ammunition up so in theory less ammo wasted at weddings more ammo to wage war with ;)

Also it's not just the arab culture, as I said it's in Serbia too, and weren't people in the wild west also frequently celebrating with gunplay? The tradition could be as old as 100 years if not more.
I literally do think it's just people liking loud things, unfortunately when the only loud thing available is a weapon they'll use that.

EDIT: Reminded me of this
Hehe nice link. Just had a breakthrough - the new years do it just to make a loud noise but at weddings it's actually a tradition that possibly pre-dates the gun - apparently they used to shoot at apples (so one of my grandmas says), so the possible transferral from bow to gun could have been made some time ago.

Also a 100% confirmation from all that the tradition is easily more than 80 years old, almost certainly way more.

However shooting at weddings with guns HAS been outlawed in Serbia, but farmers still do it, and in Montenegro they still do it.

Ah yes! The genocide the Ottmans comitted! Turkey and the Ottoman empire are two different things. You are basicly blaming the son for his fathers actions.
