Is it too late for GTA to revive this series? It's been three years, and there is competition from Saint's Row 3. I like the series but feel it a bit overused.
Huh? Revived? GTA is far from dead. You know there was a 7 year gap between 3 and 4, right?

OT: As pointed out by, well, everyone else, the series is hardly dead, even if GTA IV was crap. Highest-rated game my arse.[/quote]

It surprisingly is actually. Twice. And GTA3 is sixth in the list. Not bad for such an old game

Um...what the fuck does Saints Row 3 have to do with GTA5? SR3 comes out very, very soon. GTA5 is just now being ANNOUNCED. It will be a year before we even see it. I'm sure everyone will have moved on from SR3 by then.
speak for yourself buddy, im still playing coop saints row 2 with a buddy, and its just as fun and hilarious as it was when it came out, i think Saints row 3 will be fun for years, provided you take some breaks from playing it
Oh, my bad. I forgot to account for statistical outliers.

I'm not doubting that there will be people playing SR3 for years and years, but it won't be MOST people. Most people will have stopped playing it and will play dozens of other games between the release of SR3 and GTA5.

Oh and GTA4 beats SR2. *runs for the hills*
I completely agree. SR2 was dumb fun. Great fun, but you know, silly. GTA4 was really engaging in terms of story, which I value a lot. Of course it had its flaws ("Hey cousin!") but overall I liked it more. Both are great games though, which is why they're both getting sequels. No revivals necessary.

This. How is such a small time without new releases or shitty ports (Hi Saints Row 2) the death of a series?
Wait up... I'm confused... Are you implying SR2 was a shittier port than GTA IV?

I think there a place in this world for both of them. Capitalism and competition and all that. I prefer Saints Row though. GTA4 came a cross dreery, and difficult to control at times when compared to Saints Row 2. I don't mind a game being "real" but they could at least made it easier to shoot while driving, among other things.

Both GTA4 and Saints Row 2 where very bad ports. GTA4 had the added Problem of a copy Protection System that has linguists struggling to come up with a Word stronger then "ridiculous".
GTA4 ran quite a bit better then Saints Row 2. That is, when it ran at all.

While I still personally consider GTA IV to be the most overrated game of all time, the series doesn't need "reviving" by any stretch. It just needs to better understand whatever the hell it's trying to be.

I loved the gritty nature of IV and the more down to earth approach, I just hated the terrible central characters, the story that went nowhere, and the inconsistancy of the whole affair. And, for the love of god, give us more things to DO.

If they can re-create San Andreas with IV's production values and grit, they'll have a real contender for the Best Game Ever award. Until then, San Andreas is still the best GTA.

If by "revive the series" you mean "win back the small audience that migrated to Saints row" then no, it's probably not too late, but why would they? It's not like they're doing badly, and there's nothing wrong with aiming at a different audience.

Besides, those who prefer Saint Row can play Saints Row, those who prefer Grand Theft Auto can play Grand Theft Auto, and those who enjoy both can play both. I'm part of the Saints Row crowd myself, but I don't see any issue here.
yea plus its not like the games are coming out on the same day so i don't see why this guy sees any competition between the 2 games. also im with you on the saints row crowd unless they try to make the game way to goofy and it becomes unplayable

They shouldn't let the negative press about LA Noire stop them from moving in different directions.
Negative press??? Just about everyone and everything I read sang its praises, from the inventive and daring system of the slow noiristic detective novel to the facial expression system to driving around a near flawless recreation of 1950's Los Angeles... I heard nothing but critical praise from all over. Unfortunately it just didn't SELL well... or maybe it did, I don't know, seems to me that it did well enough?

The only people I heard of not liking LA Noire were people who stupidly assumed the title was just a fancy way of saying "Grand Theft Auto: The 50's!" and were sorely disappointed when they found they weren't able to simply run around shooting people in the face at will and running over pedestrians like traffic cones at a driving school for the legally blind.

I hear you, but unfortunately there were a lot of the above mentioned people. Then again maybe they just hang around my neck of the woods. I probably should have said negative word of mouth reviews.
Personally I thought it was pretty good. I think it ticked all the boxes it was aiming to tick.

Yeah, that's the tragedy.

I think though it'll go down in history as one of those games that as younger gamers who have this need for itchy trigger finger super action will go back to at some point as a defining classic. Just like I think people 5-10 years from now will probably go back and play Red Dead Redemption, which like LA Noire if it is the ONLY game in the series will be a tragedy of the highest order. If there is any justice in the world, Red Dead 2 is already nearing post production.

Cool story: I wasn't planning on getting GTA IV but my brother bought it on a whim. It was a smart move in the end, because the game was excellent. The multiplayer was a little dull, but I still played some of it. In short, this series is still great and doesn't need "reviving".

You've been spoiled by COD's annual releases, 3 years is NOT a long time. Not even 4 years. It's actually a very typical development cycle for major iterations. And Rockstar has kept it's foot in the door with two major expansion packs to GTA4, and a related game in Red Dead Redemption (which itself had a major expansion pack in Undead Nightmares) and LA Noire.

Saints Row 3 is interesting but the problem is SR3 seems to be comparing itself to GTA4. Who knows where GTA5 will go?

And Rockstar games have always had that special something, I can't quite put my finger on it but I jsut don't get that feel with Saints Row.

The Saints Row games are far more "fun" than the GTA games, despite being no where near as polished. It's Monty Python's Holy Grail as opposed to Shakespeare's Hamlet.

RDR is far greater than GTA4 so I don't see any reason why they should go back to that well. They shouldn't let the negative press about LA Noire stop them from moving in different directions.
negative press? it did pretty well in the review stakes didnt it? (or was there somthing to do with the peopel who actually workied on it)

anyway theres nothing wring with GTA, Im glad rockstar doesnt give it the COD treatment though,

Icant belive soo many people complain abotu GTA being too "serious" I mean seriously its hard not to get a "agreeing with yahtzee ALL THE TIME" vibe

There will always be a market for gratuitous chaos and bloodshed and Saint's Row isn't well known enough to seriously compete with GTA. Now if Rockstar releases another snoozefest like GTA 4, then they may be in trouble. But even if GTA 5 is a steaming load, it will still sell enough on the release date to green light another game.

When GTA IV couldn't offer nearly the amount of fun previous titles could once you were done with the main narrative. This is a franchise highly popular for the fucking around value, all of which flew straight out the window somehow with GTA IV. Don't get me wrong, the campaign was nice, gameplay was solid but... it just isn't much fun to play once you're done with the story.

OT: Don't think it's too late at all. GTA series has slowly been getting better and better since it's started. GTA IV merely went to refine the series by adding a more... sophisticated narrative and realism in place of the usual "criminal fucks shit up". As long as they can throw in some balance of GTA IV and GTA San Andreas into GTA V, it's bound to be a hit.

As for Saints Row 3, SR2 was a brilliant game (lacking many things where gameplay is concerned, but that aside) and SR3's gonna rock. But these two titles are very, VERY different - and there is definitely room for more than one on the market, and not even as a choice per consumer, but as in, most people will enjoy playing both.

God almighty, yes! Yes! YES! I'd gladly skip out on Skyrim if it meant I could get the future finished version of GTA V!
The question is not did you cum, the question is why did you cum all over Bill Murray. That's just wrong dude, that's just wrong.
Because Billy Murray is such a sexy, sexy man.
