Bring back the god-damn parachute! GTA4 just feels so much more restricted without it. Base-jumping and sky-diving in San Andreas killed many hours of my youth...
Having grown up in Zimbabwe I reckon that Africa would make for a very interesting and dynamic setting. Corruption, crime, rebellion, arms trafficking etc...
Probably wouldn't really suit GTA tbh but I still reckon you could make a similar type game which could be amazing if it was well implemented. Would probably be rather controversial though

GTA Burkina Faso. Think about it.

EDIT: I didn't even see that the person who posted before me mentioned Africa until after I posted. Funny coincidence.

Make a woman the main protagonist. Although I can see the jokes already GTA: Grand Theft Alimony.

Also, I think the television channels were a good idea, I really do. They allowed rockstar to take its wacky sense of humor to new levels, and it's that sense of humor that I've always found charming in the GTA series. The problem lies in the fact that you have to stop playing the game in order to watch them. I think if the television channels could be viewed while in a taxi they would be easier to appreciate. Many cities are putting televisions in their taxis. If they did that I would be less inclined to just skip the trip altogether so I could maybe watch some TV.

I think they should change the setting from the USA. But I don't think the UK would be a good idea, as the devs won't take the piss out of their own nation as efficiently, as mentioned above.
Australia. We need to get our own back after all the jokes the Aussies made during the olympics.

well, I think it will follow the GTA3 development cycle as they take the same core engine (GTA3) and tweaked and modified it through Vice City and then San Andreas. So I think the next GTA game will not be called GTA5 but GTA:"insert location name here".

One thing I wondered about was setting it in a War where it was all like spies and double dealing and army everywhere meanwhile you are in the middle and just want to make some money in any way you can make money in the middle of a war zone.

GTA: Iraq could be a possible title

I mean you would still have civilians and cars going around but there is also loads of militias, terrorists, guerillas, mercenaries, foreign and local armies, the UN, as well as more controversial things like evangelising aid agencies, shyster reporters and corrupt generals.

This would be pretty controversial, especially if the main character was Arab and it was set in a "Generic Middle Eastern Country" with US troops that could well be Iraq but it's not like Rockstar hasn't gone to edgy places before. I know that there is an incredible amount of money being thrown around in Iraq for western, Arab and jihadist funding to Saddam's incredible riches. Plus, I know that both the western coalition and jihadist insurgents are paying lots of money for both highly trained mercenary assassins as well as putting a price on the head of those who step over the line.

Is the world ready for a satirising ultra-violent game about Iraq? MGS4 was set in a very Iraq like place but it took itself rather seriously. Do you think it could be done, lots of games are being set in Iraq or generic Middle eastern cities (50 cent's game)? More importantly, should it be made?

PS: Plus, what the hell happened to that promised Xbox 360 exclusive content? It's been 5 months and nothing has even been announced and Rockstar hasn't even confirmed they are working on it!
Sounds almost exactly like Mercenaries 2.

Also, the content was supposed to come out in August but was then put back to between November 2008 and January 2009.

A completely revamped GTA:London would be enough for me not to write this franchise off.

I loved how they used Master Cheif-style space suits for that 'Republican Space Troopers' thing. :D

They should at least have the option of having a woman protagonist.

Oh dear god...I can see it now...Playboy exclusives, Women's Rights, Feminazi's, "SICK GAMES ARE RUINING OUR KIDS LIVES', Single Mothers...

Perfect world, great idea. This world, asking for trouble.

It won't be GTA5 next, it changes number with generation of consoles I believe.
No it doesn't, especially given as it started out on the PC. It changes number generally in line with a new game engine. 3, Vice City and San Andreas are based on the same game engine.

It'll probably be another bludgeoning-gorefest like Manhunt 2, which is what Rockstar seems to be good at.
What about The Warriors? Violent yes but not a bludgeoning gorefest and definitely a good game.

Yeah that is true. I was saying about the cars going tits-up because they would need to change all the American cars like: Patriot/Hummer. We'd have to have Minis and double-decker buses.
On second thought, mowing pedestrians down with a double decker bus sounds like fun!

I would like somewhere scenic like Austrailia or Las Vegas, Britan can be boring. :(

Weell how 'bout a change of pace i was thinking kind of this bland communist russia thing, or a 1984-esque existance and you'd be about the only sane person left. (Or mabye as DLC i donno)
But i think it'd be cool running through London in the George Orwell book 1984 beating up inner party members with purple dildos.
It'd be so cool. You'd get to bring down the party and the missions wouldn't be given to you by some stereotypical gangster they'd be given to you by yourself. Like choose your own missions! Or create your own i don't know how'd they pull it off.
Maybe one day. I'm just babbling on now.

Press B to harvest negative thoughts about the inner party.

Oh! And maybe a woman protaganist thats a good idea indoobidably! Realistic woman i mean.
I'll shutup now

Their all the same game so does it really matter if its in San Quentin or San Juan or England.. It'll all be GTA3 with prettier graphics and a new story. The gameplay will be the same crap you payed 50 dollars for last year. Run around with total chaos for about three gameplay sessions before you actually got into the story which comprised of a chase mission, a bunch of kill alls, and a few escorts.

Australia? Scenic? BAHAHAHAHA
Sure, we have pretty landmarks, but they're few and far between, in a sense of the word that very few non-Australians will realise.
Driving for 12+ hours along a nondescript outback road doesn't sound very GTA to me. Although set in say, Sydney or Melbourne... that has potential.

Yay a kindred spirit!
I'd say that up till this point(Far Cry 2 and Resi 5 notwithstanding) Africa has been thoroughly under-utilised by the games industry. It really is an amazing place.

I would also like to support the former post about banning GTA, Halo, Final Fantasy and every other franchise that is used to spill out the same game over and over to avoid having to do actual work.. Or use their minds at all.

deffo a new gta in england it has 2 be done
also there should be a new string of side missions (the way to gain money) having to set up your own organizations such as a drug ring starting at the bottom and working your way up to employing other dealers, a hole gone in 60 seconds thing where you have a certain time to grab expensive cars and get them to a dealership and things like teaming up with the contacts you gain to pull off bankjobs and hijacking the vans that transport the money to banks
gta 4 was crap they really need to improve with number 5 or it will hit rock bottom

i like the britain idea, look at the london underground, it would be great if a game made a carbon copy of that, hundreds of places to run and hide, and thats without everything above ground
