Last year, on a guitar hero sponsored festival (sonisphere Nijmegen), where Metallica played, there was a contest.
The person who got the highest score in Guitar Hero could perform the song on stage in between sets.

So, there is this full guitar hero band set on stage. The announcer tells everyone these people were the best at Seek And Destroy.
The familiar screen starts to roll..... they start to play.... on easy.... They sucked.

I know, I know, standing on a stage in front of thousands of Metallica fans, waiting for you to screw it up might make you a little nervous.... but EASY!....

But it's still a fun game to play.
In between playing actual guitar and a few beers.

There is no argument here.

You're not going to attract a sexual partner with a plastic Fisher price guitar.
Throwing out about a hundred notes in a few seconds. That does.

Slap your friend with a guitar hero controller exclaiming that you 5-starred his face.

I love guitar hero and rock band. I've had two guitars in my life, once when I was younger and just a few years ago(cheap guitars are cheap). I could never get my fingers to reach across the frets though, so I never stayed with it. I realise they're different, but I love music and guitar hero is about the closest I'm gonna get.

One of my friends got so good at Guitar Hero, he got bored, and picked up a real guitar. Now, after a year, he's really good.

I'm good at Guitar Hero, but I also play guitar. What you should do is ask him real guitar questions and try talking to him about stuff like that.

I haven't experienced it personally, however I have heard of examples like yours. I also have friends whom I could easily see doing what your friend has done. The very thought of it makes my blood boil.

Honestly, Ive never seen a GH player think that their skills extend to a real guitar. But I have seen a number of guitarists whine about people who are having fun not really being guitarists, when the players have no intention to be, and just want to have a good time. Maybe these people your talking about are actually, genuinely delusional, and think that they can play guitar because of a game. But while that's on the table, ask if maybe your just ruining some of the fun in an escapist fantasy.

Wow, but Dragon Age makes you a Grey Warden right?
That game got me so immersed that one day during a conversation a mate of mine said something a bit shocking and i ended up saying "By the Maker!".
OT: Yeah i had a mate that thought the same.
Holy shit I did the same thing almost, I said just maker in annoyance as appose jesus. Also I called underpants small-clothes once.

I haven't experienced much of this thing thankfully, not many of my friends play Guitar Hero/Rockband. However I have encountered many a preteen boy who thinks he knows everything about combat, weaponry, and warfare because he plays CoD too much.

Yes, it's not a guitar; however, it still is a hard earned skill. Try and give it a little respect (within reason of course). I find that it helps to think of it more as an accordion :) Despite being a plastic instrument, a song played on expert has at least 19 possible combinations (see my calculations below). If we wanted to map these to real notes, we'd come up with two octaves and a bit, very similar to the musical range of many instruments. You wouldn't accuse a saxophone of not being a real instrument, and it has a similar range.

4 three finger cords with one space
4 two finger cords with no space

5 one finger notes
