a yamaha pacifica (entry level ftw)

I play a whole load of music with no specific genre preference though classic rock has a special place on my mantelpiece.

I can't decide between the Fender Heartfield Elan III( w/custom pickup setup) or the Fender Custom Shop setneck guitars we have here, equally wonderful. I tend to just make up my own stuff now whenever I play, mixture of jazz, rock, metal, blue and pyschedelic for the most part. It's also hard to decide whether to play through the Fender Cyber Twin amp or the Line 6 Vetta amp...choices, choices, choices...(and by three choices I mean we have third guitar and third amp here as well hehe).

But I can't play right now as I fuqed up my arm but good.

I guess I could have bought a Gibson but I looked at the money and thought "oh my god I can buy five Epiphones with that cash", so I bought five Epiphones instead.

I don't think there's enough of a difference in quality between Epiphone and Gibson to warrant the extreme price jump between the two brands. Most Epis that I've heard play and sound at least 90% as good as a Gibson, and I like the sound of the Wildkat I own a lot more than the nearest Gibson equivalents I've played (i.e an ES-175 with P90s as Gibson don't really do anything like the Wildkat). I think with Gibson in many cases you're paying a premium just for the name "Gibson" if you know what I mean.

I would say the same thing about Fender and Squier. I teach guitar and most of my students have Squiers, there's a bit of a variation between one Squier's sound and the next but basically they sound fine. Some of the workmanship is a bit rough and ready, plus they always need a setup out of the factory, but it's a serviceable sound, good enough to take on a stage.
Gibson and Fender are indeed overpriced for what you're getting, but to say there is little difference in quality compared to cheaper copies is stretching it a little.

My band's guitarist has a Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop and I assure you there isn't a single current-day Epiphone copy that comes anywhere near it. There is off course some personal taste factored in there, but even then I'd say the two are far apart. I've seen him use it to perfectly nail the sound of Jimmy Page, Slash, Angus Young and so on ..., something I haven't heard from any cheap copy. Though I must say that having a good amplifier can do as much if not more than a good guitar. I'll also admit there are copies, like 70's era Japanese copies, that come very close to the real thing. Who knows, maybe I'm just a little too demanding of instruments.

Anyways, back on topic. I'm a bassist/guitarist and these are my instruments:

Guitars:
Fender Telecaster, custom-built built using Warmoth parts
Hamer Studio
Gibson Les Paul Custom
Some cheap Ibanez acoustic I use to take along on trips.

Basses:
Alembic Anniversary Edition
Status Series I Custom Shop
Rickenbacker 4003
Schecter Stiletto Exotic with Bartolini pups
Ibanez Musician MC-924, fretless
Kramer 450b, mostly in the collection as a collectors item

I play any genre with the exception of most punk music.

My guitar is an ESP LTD M-50, which is lovely.
I prefer to play rock/metal.
This. Every time. I want to get an ESP, but I'm indecisive between the AX series or the F series. That or a Jackson Kelly. They're all so bloody gorgeous :p
F series is pretty damn sexy. Havn't played any of those though. I can speak for ESP generally though, the sound is amazing. Suprisingly nice clean tone aswell.

I play mostly hard rock and metal, I've got 5 guitars

ESP LTD Deluxe MH-1000
ESP LTD Deluxe EC-1000
Ibanez SZ720
Jackson RR3
Some no name classical acoustic

I love my ESPs to death. The MH-1000 has a sexy Floyd Rose, but I prefer my EC-1000 for playability and style

I have 7 guitars currently... I would say my PRS is my fave, but my Gibson SG Supreme is a ltd edition finish which even though it doesn't sound as great gives it a warm place in my heart... it's what I would save if there was a house fire

Fender Classic Player 50' Stratocaster - The classic player's are probably the best Mexican Fenders as far as my experience goes.

(By the way, her name is Tara ;D)

And as for genre... anything really but my playing focuses on melody and groove based rhythms in a mildly psychedelic mould.

And while on this topic, lets throw our favourite guitar players in: John Frusciante, Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmour

The best thing to do is to learn your open chords, that way you can start playing along with popular music. Look up the House of the Rising Sun chords online, and their fingerings. That song has most of the important chords you'll need to get started
The problem is that i don't understand the guitar tabs that you find online.
Like these tabs, i really don't understand them

Basically, The bottom line is the low E string (the lowest note string) and the numbers represent the fret numbers. The (b) indicates a bend, Although if youve never played guitar id stay away from something this complex straight off.

If you need any tab related assitance send me a PM :)
