Gun owners: What's your favorite, and why'd you get it?

Just bought my first gun today!

It's a second-hand Winchester Model 201 Super Grade in 12 Bore, with 2 fixed 3/4 chokes. I'm pretty chuffed to be honest. Cost me £530, with cleaning kit thrown in for free.

Not fired it yet, but I can't wait to give it a go on the clay range. The tight chokes might mean I've got a bit of a challenge when shooting things that dont go straight ahead, but oh well

Well I cant get a gun here due to the overly restrictive firearms laws. Cant even get a pellet gun

My favourite gun however is the HK 417 but even if i wanted to its not for civilians so id have to get the MR762. Either way its a beautiful gun

The 416/417 are cool guns. You really can't go wrong with Heckler and Koch (except for the Customer service side of things. =p). The MR762's look like they'll be going for about $4000USD. I think I'm gonna go with the LWRC REPR, it's about $500 cheaper, and built to similar standards. Better customer service too, apparently.

Haha thanks! It's great to point and fire, and has a pretty solid feel and weight to it, you barely even feel the kick.

Took it to my local clay range the other day and it performed pretty well, but the tight fixed chokes mean it might be a bit harder to get good scores when I go to the bigger ranges with crossing clays that are further away, but I'll see how it goes ;D

Most people who own them own them for the same reason people own sports cars, video games, movies, motorcycles, etc, so on and so forth: Going to a range and blowing up some flying chunks of clay, or putting holes through pieces of paper is just a very good way to relax and enjoy an afternoon (or morning).

A lot of people also use them for self defense, others because the American constitution says that we're not only allowed to, but encouraged to keep and own/carry firearms.

The reasons are really just as varied as the reasons you might want to own a car, or a laptop, or a dog. Gun owners are just as diverse as owners of every other thing under the sun.

while I appreciate your point, none of the items you mentioned were design almost solely for the purpose of killing things, and while you say these guns are for 'self defence' have you ever considered just not having the guns in the first place? I live in Scotland, a country with very strict fire arm restrictions and we don't seem to have much gun crime. and while I can agree to the thereputic qualities of target shooting, shurley the range could store them itself instead of these weapons being kept by individuals

This is not a gun control thread. You asked a question and it was answered. If you do not like guns, please take your opinion and leave, this thread obviously is not targeted at you. I will not argue with you, I will not discuss this any further with you. Any further attempts at turning this thread into a gun-control thread (which already exist, feel free to Search for them) will result in you being reported. Thank you, and have a nice day.

EDIT: To put the reason why as simply as possible: There is no argument we as gun owners can make, nor any argument that you, as a protester can make, that will change either side's ideal of what is right. Arguing it is stupid.

w00t! Just got home from picking up my first gun!

Remington 700 ADL in .30-06, synthetic stock, Bushnell 3-9x40 scope on leupold mountings, and six and a half boxes of a 165 grain Core-Lokt ammunition (Which it's already zeroed in with) =D

I am a very happy person (if a still a bit under the weather). I'm really looking forward to getting to the range with it. =D

It is a Noreen single shot rifle chambered for the.50 BMG round. I have a x22 scope on it. It weighs in at 45 pounds. I got it for vaporizing prairie dogs and just to have a .50.

I have a Remington lever-action rifle. Besides that, I know nothing else. I've never fired it, so I don't know what caliber it is chambered for. I've held it a few times. Before you ask, it was my Dad's, but he left it after my parents divorced. Maybe when I go back to Texas for Christmas, I'll take it down to a shooting range. I would have also owned a revolver(don't know what company), and a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun, but my dad decided to sell them.

I'm honestly surprised this didn't turn into a "debate" thread...hmm. I don't own a gun at the moment (because I'm broke...I have a wife and child. That doesn't leave a lot of extra money) but my father-in-law has a few safes full of guns (too many to count...kinda scares me. I try to avoid getting on his bad side.). I like the rifle he recently got. It's similar to an M-4 carbine except it's a civilian version. I don't know what it's called and I don't want to get in trouble for advertising that company.

Though he also has a black powder pistol and old-style rifles which are pretty cool.

I would like to eventually own an AR-15 or the H&K version (more reliable) as well as a pistol or two for concealed carry, can never be too safe...especially around here. I've seen a few crazy/druggies around. Like, I don't really care if you use drugs but it becomes a nuisance when you're loitering at the gas station thinking that you're a bird...or dog. Yeah, he seemed hostile (growling).

I love my gun, it does both high and low temperatures, is small and compact, has a good range, and I use it often. Nothing is better for building small robotics, doing arts and crafts, and filling in cracks in your laptop case easily. I love my gun.

Try checking along the barrel of the gun for it's manufacturer and calibre, most companies list those there (my guess is that it's a 30-30, it's the most common calibre for lever actions).

I've seen a few crazy/druggies around. Like, I don't really care if you use drugs but it becomes a nuisance when you're loitering at the gas station thinking that you're a bird...or dog. Yeah, he seemed hostile (growling).

The main difference between your average AR-15 and H&K's version, is that a standard AR-15 uses a direct-gas-impigment system, while the H&K gun uses a varient of the more reliable short-stroke-piston system.

Now you can get AR-15s with a similar (and just as reliable) piston system, but without the over-the-top H&K price tag.

I have a P22. I got it because I wanted a handgun for just plinking away at targets. It's .22 LR so it's not very practical for hunting, I don't have any interest in hunting anyway. I don't have anything against it, I just don't care for it.

What I really like about it is the ammo, .22 LR is pretty cheap. My dad, who owns a 9mm Springfield, he spent about 6 times of what I did for the same amount of bullets.

As for reliability, it's pretty good. I've had a few misfires, but I think that was due to the bullets I was using at the time.

The only complaint I have for the gun is that it usually doesn't cycle the next round into the chamber if it's a hollow point round. Some one told me that if you use lead instead of brass for the shells it doesn't have that problem, I don't know if that's true, I never tried it.

My favorite rifle is AR15. I own eight complete AR15 with tons of receivers in storage. IMO the AR15 is the best rifle in the world. It is the most accurate semi-auto rifle in the world. It can beat some of the best well made bolt action rifles out there.

My favorite handgun is the 1911. It is the best combat and competitive handgun in the world. It has the best trigger out of the box. With that said my conceal carry is a Glock 19 because it lighter.

My favorite shotgun is the 870. Nothing beat a Remington 870.
