In all honesty I don't want episode 3 to come out.

The last 4 times I wanted to play a game that had a 3 in the title, they were concurrently the worst 4 experiences of my life to date.

As much faith as I have in Valve, I don't want to even risk having that dashed. So I will never play episode 3. Or Half Life 3, or Portal 3, or Left 3 Dead, or Team Fortress 3...

ahh anyone else think a release on christmas day to be unrealistic? the reason most games near christmas are realeased around late novenber is because eole can buy the games before chritmas as gifts

I take it a little trilogy fear?

Quick, somebody apply the the Valve time conversion algorithm to the 31st December 2012!
It should be out around... 32nd of May 2015.
Your math is off, I calculate 29th of February 2029

OT: I call fake. Until it is officially on Steam I will not believe random sites who claim it's release after Christmas. Seriously, why would they release it after Christmas?
To be fair, it could go on sell after the collapse of the world economy and it'd still become the highest selling game ever.

Yep.

It's no secrete that third installments are usually not as good as the first 2 but this generation of gaming has taken it to a whole new level of mediocrity.

I'm also scared to play Assassin's Creed 3, but getting disillusioned with Ubisoft isn't nearly as terrifying as realizing Valve can make mistakes.

When are we going to get some new IP's?

A lot of sites do this with games that almost certainly exist but don't have a release date - They just make one up.

The Reason? I'm guessing the system they use to put the game on the website requires you put in "A release date" and you can't just leave the field blank...so they put it at the end of the year.

No big deal, plus the 31st of December 2012 is a monday which isn't a release day for the US, nor the UK.

Not going to get my hopes up because in all likelihood, someone had some fun tinkering with that newsletter.

Why the fuck would any dev release a game right AFTER Christmas. This is an elaborate fake.
Assuming it's real (and I don't think it is), it could be some clever tactic to avoid the cluster fuck of games and other merchandise jockeying for position on people's christmas shopping lists around that time.

...

I didn't say it was a good theory, and I am skeptical.

Hopefully you only mean recent games, because the Return of the King kicks the pants off The Fellowship of the Ring.

Another day, another HL2Ep3 rumour.

Some things never change.
.
I received it as a part of my newsletter subscription, I'm really hoping this is real!
I shall indulge in hope when I click on that New Game button.

Until then, all things related to Ep3 are mere illusions.
Wait for Christmas.

Hello escapists!
This is exciting news! I got my email newsletter from GameSpot, and it stated that Half Life 2 Episode 3 has a release date, at 31-12-2012, 2012 Christmas!
Please, those that have any information to help me with this one step forward, I don't know if this was a slip-up and they released it by accident or someone is trying to fuck with me!
http://www.gamespot.com/half-life-2-episode-three/forum/half-life-3-release-date-given-29189309/
(The guy on the forums isn't me, he's just another person that got the same email newsletter)
The very last day of the year? Yeah, tentative is putting it mildly. If a release date is projected for december 31st, 2012, we can expect it i 2015.
I can see why they would have it on Christmas, Y'Know, to maximize profits.
Except it's after Christmas, and when someone puts 31st of December as a release date, that means it's almost guaranteed to be delayed.

Either that, or Valve is trying to throw us off. Remember how Episode 1 and Two only got publicity maybe a month before they were released? It almost came out of nowhere, suddenly there was stuff about Half Life again, and it was coming next week! I expect Valve to do something like that.

"hey, us, Gabe Newell here, and uh, we know you guys have been waiting a long time, so, uh, it releases next friday."
I have a theory that one day, Gabe Newell is going to walk into a really crowded room one day, pull the only copy of Half Life 3 to ever be made out of his jacket, and throw it into the crowd and laugh as they tear each other apart trying to get it.
No no no, he is just going to release to stores without saying anything. One day you will be walking through Target (or what ever store) and see a wall of Half Life 3's. No one will know it's coming, not even the store, they will just get a random shipment of HL3
Thus completing our plan to rule the world!

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

OT: But seriously, it's fake

No.

Just. No. That's unacceptable. It better be fucking Half Life 3. I will not deal with this HL2 episode 3 bullshit. It has been 5 years since episode 2. The whole episode things died. 5 YEARS AGO. If it is Half Life 2 Episode 3, I will go on a murderous rampage.

Even if this whole thing is fake, I don't care. My reasoning still stands. 5 years is too long for an "episode". It better be a fully-fledged Half Life game.

I did specify 'This generation'
And Lord of the Rings Return of the King is pretty god damn sweet.

Other than that though, is there another third installment (In a trilogy Burnout 3 is the best Burnout by far but it's not a trilogy) that's the best. Because that's the only one I can come up with.

Don't many gaming sites use the last date of the year when there is no release date for a game but they still have it in their database?

Think about it.

It took valve 8 years to finish CS:GO, and then it tooks them years to finally sum up everything and reveal MvM. They've been pretty busy working on other things, too, like TF2 ingame items. So for some reason I'm not 100% sure that this is an accurate date. I am not going to believe it until I hear it announced by valve themselves or until I see it for pre-order on steam.
