Whoever wrote the headline should be locked up with no game to play till next year. Or at least be reminded to add "rumour" before it. Because he just broke my heart three times.

I am guessing it is fake since everybody is waiting for HL3. Unless Gabe have been trolling us since the beginning which isn't far-fetched when you think about it.

Hello escapists!
This is exciting news! I got my email newsletter from GameSpot, and it stated that Half Life 2 Episode 3 has a release date, at 31-12-2012, 2012 Christmas!
Please, those that have any information to help me with this one step forward, I don't know if this was a slip-up and they released it by accident or someone is trying to fuck with me!

You haven't stopped to think that December 31st is just a placeholder?

If it doesn't come out December 31st of 2012, I'm sure it'll be listed as December 31st of 2013.

Why don't they just say that it will be released on 01/04/2013? FFS, we all know that Gabe ate HL2EP3 and it's entire development team.
Why would it get released on my birthday?

OP: Not buying it. Valve can't count to 3.

Their next game is going to be L4D2: Episode 2.

Haha, I see a couple of tabs of My Little Pony fanfiction (not making fun, I'm actually in the process of writing something on fimfiction.net myself)

Anyhoo, my guess is that someone at Gamespot screwed up, or wherever they enter games into their database required a release date so they just plugged that date in.

It's been too long. I've lost interest in the story and the engine feels very dated.

If I ever play the game, it'll be after paying $2.50 for it from a steam sale during a slow gaming period.

I'm assuming a lot of things though, namely that it's an episode that's about 2-3 hours long and able to run using the same specs required for Episodes 1 & 2. None of which may be true.

If I may put in my two cents (well in my case two pennies) I would say that this is mostly likely ANOTHER attempt by Gamespot to try and lure some readers back onto it's site and try to claim it has some relevance once again, a position it has not had for the past decade.

If you want news on games, go to GamesRadar, Kotaku or Gamesindustry.biz.

It will suck. Mainly because it is the most anticipated game ever. Also. People should at least wait until an official announcement. Could most likely be a slip up.
That's not a reason why it would be bad. Seriously, Duke Nukem Forever and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts are not the best example of what a massively-delayed game becomes. I've seen some poor logic around, but, that's just beyond foolish. Just because it's extremely hyped, does not mean it's going to be bad. It's only been five years. This is Valve we're talking about here. You do know how they do their work, right?

Anyway, releasing on the last day of the year is something I haven't seen before. That's a rather interesting way to do it.

Fake. If Half-Life 2: Episode 3 was really coming out it would be all over the internet, and I don't know about anyone else but I haven't seen anything about it anywhere else. Also what Gavin said, why would they release it right after Christmas?

Another day, another HL2Ep3 rumour.

Some things never change.
.
I received it as a part of my newsletter subscription, I'm really hoping this is real!
I shall indulge in hope when I click on that New Game button.

Until then, all things related to Ep3 are mere illusions.
Wait for Christmas.

The very last day of the year? Yeah, tentative is putting it mildly. If a release date is projected for december 31st, 2012, we can expect it i 2015.
I can see why they would have it on Christmas, Y'Know, to maximize profits.
Except it's after Christmas, and when someone puts 31st of December as a release date, that means it's almost guaranteed to be delayed.

Either that, or Valve is trying to throw us off. Remember how Episode 1 and Two only got publicity maybe a month before they were released? It almost came out of nowhere, suddenly there was stuff about Half Life again, and it was coming next week! I expect Valve to do something like that.

"hey, us, Gabe Newell here, and uh, we know you guys have been waiting a long time, so, uh, it releases next friday."
I have a theory that one day, Gabe Newell is going to walk into a really crowded room one day, pull the only copy of Half Life 3 to ever be made out of his jacket, and throw it into the crowd and laugh as they tear each other apart trying to get it.
No no no, he is just going to release to stores without saying anything. One day you will be walking through Target (or what ever store) and see a wall of Half Life 3's. No one will know it's coming, not even the store, they will just get a random shipment of HL3

Even if this were true, release date 31.12.2012. just means somebody in an unofficial interview said "we'll make it by the end of 2012." and somebody else took it very, very literally. I'm already completely disinterested in the story by now anyway. I doubt I'd enjoy it much if they really did release it..

Okay, wow. There's so many things wrong with this that it's definitely a fake.

First off, Valve's announced multiple times that there will be no Half-Life 2: Episode 3. At all. If they ever did return to the Half-Life series, it'd be Half-Life 3 instead.

Second, Releasing on the last day of the year is probably the stupidest thing to ever do. Not only is it after Christmas, which is the 25th of December, but it's also after the majority of the Christmas shopping season (which takes place during the later half of November and ends early January). You can't "maximize profits" when you're counting on Christmas and you release it after Christmas and when most of the Christmas shopping season is done. A late November release date, or early December, would make the most sense in that case. You know, when most people are shopping.

Third, this is a third-party source, and I distrust all third-party sources when they say there's going to be an official release of something. I only trust something straight out of the developer/publisher's mouth in regards to that.

Sorry, bud. It's a fake.
