Another day, another HL2Ep3 rumour.

Some things never change.
.
I received it as a part of my newsletter subscription, I'm really hoping this is real!
I shall indulge in hope when I click on that New Game button.

Until then, all things related to Ep3 are mere illusions.
Wait for Christmas.

Hello escapists!
This is exciting news! I got my email newsletter from GameSpot, and it stated that Half Life 2 Episode 3 has a release date, at 31-12-2012, 2012 Christmas!
Please, those that have any information to help me with this one step forward, I don't know if this was a slip-up and they released it by accident or someone is trying to fuck with me!

(The guy on the forums isn't me, he's just another person that got the same email newsletter)
The very last day of the year? Yeah, tentative is putting it mildly. If a release date is projected for december 31st, 2012, we can expect it i 2015.
I can see why they would have it on Christmas, Y'Know, to maximize profits.
Except it's after Christmas, and when someone puts 31st of December as a release date, that means it's almost guaranteed to be delayed.

Either that, or Valve is trying to throw us off. Remember how Episode 1 and Two only got publicity maybe a month before they were released? It almost came out of nowhere, suddenly there was stuff about Half Life again, and it was coming next week! I expect Valve to do something like that.

"hey, us, Gabe Newell here, and uh, we know you guys have been waiting a long time, so, uh, it releases next friday."
I have a theory that one day, Gabe Newell is going to walk into a really crowded room one day, pull the only copy of Half Life 3 to ever be made out of his jacket, and throw it into the crowd and laugh as they tear each other apart trying to get it.
.
Then the REAL zombie apocalypse begins...

That's a very indiscreet* time.
I reckon it's nothing more than a placeholder, if that. Most likely a hugely faint teaser or just a joke.

Sites and retailers do this for games that don't have a set release date all the time. That's not the release date, and chances are it won't even come out this year.

I can't confirm the source, but I know TotalBiscuit (Google him) said in a podcast that Valve doesn't want to make a Half-Life 2: Episode 3 because they failed the episodic thing.

If they're going to make a new Half-Life game, it would be Half-Life 3. And this picture is showing an Episode 3. So I have my doubts.

Plus, as many have pointed out, places like Gamespot do these sorts of things often. Wouldn't surprise me if a bored worker there thought it'd be a funny joke.

Why don't they just say that it will be released on 01/04/2013? FFS, we all know that Gabe ate HL2EP3 and it's entire development team.

Just so you know when a game is listed with a release date like that then it won't be coming out that year. I worked for Game Stop for 3 years and that's considered a holder date.

They're just guessing, which they do all the time. As evidenced by the fact that they've gone for it being on the last day of the year.

If HL3 had been announced Gamestop wouldn't be the first to know, and the internet would have died of a massive, virtual heart attack already.

But...but...that link isn't Rick Astley or a malware site...now I don't know what to think...I'll accept that Episode 3 is coming when Gabe Newell personally knocks on my door and confirms to me over a hand shake. Otherwise I'll remain skeptical until it is selling on Steam.
.
It already happened.
.
That time was a joke.

THIS TIME IT'S THE GAME SPOT PC NEWSLETTER! IT MUST HAVE BEEN A SLIP UP!
That wasn't actually Valve. Notice how the URL is spelt wrong.

You're seriously getting excited over nothing. This means absolutely nothing.

You have to understand we have been fooled so many times. We are like the person in a bad marriage where our lover PROMISES that this time they wont beat the living shit out of you.... again.

So I say like I have said before. I wont believe it, till I see it.

EDIT: I haven't found a single reputable or a bogus website to confirm this date. The only evidence is in this thread.

Least thats as far as I got with a google search.

I read the thread title...and immediately knew it was fake..

But I opened the thread anyway, skepticism abound, I read the OP. I got to "got my email newsletter from gamespot" and laughed. Hard. I thought, there is no way someone would believe that Gamespot of all people, would toss up an honest to god release date in a newsletter for a game no one talks about.

...Lo and behold I was wrong.

Trust me the nanosecond after HL2Ep3 is announced, or any smidgen of detail is given to it..

The internet with light up, servers will crash from all the traffic, gaming journalists everywhere will have big giant red headlines with giant exclaimation marks, there wont even be an article. Confetti will be launching everywhere coating the very surface of the earth, blotting out the sun. You'll god damn know when it gets a release date. >>

And if it sucks, it will make the Mass Effect 3 controversy look like childs play.

They're probably tentatively assuming it will be some time this year, so 31st of December as tentative date. My money on completely unconfirmed and bogus.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that, that's far from a confirmed release date.

But I kinda like Half Life 3 in its unannounced and unreleased state. I think of it like a benevolent angel that watches over me.

'Alien: Colonial Marines' had a release date of about three years ago according to the web. It still hasn't come out yet.

I can already smell the houses and shops burning as Gamers take it to the streets in protest.
