If it's a real announcement, I bet the Apperture logo in the background will lead to GLaDOS saying "Haha. Fooled you. I guess you'll just have to settle for little old me," and the Half-Life logo will change into a Portal logo. It's genious!
I hope this happens, oh man that would be biblical...

Its simple we are getting half life 3 in 2019. Which is next week in valve time
Ah, a valve time joke ay? Remember when the TF2 team said they were going to release something big in a week and it took them 1 week to do it. Or when Portal 2 had a release date and was released then. Exactly, Valve is very good on keeping firm dates, but not so good when this could all be fanboy work.

I stopped caring about Half Life 3 like I did with Duke Nukem Forever, and the reason I don't care is because Half Life doesn't NEED to be a trilogy.
That argument makes no sense. Half Life fans need a sequel because they want to know what happened after the end of episode 2. The only reason they might be naming it Half Life 3 is because they aren't doing the episodic model anymore, and the next half life will probably be as long or longer than half life 2. So yes, half life does need to get a sequel, which will coincidently make it a trilogy.
Sorry, had to edit this begging bit. What I infer happens after the ending is that they bury Alx's father and live on the edge of civilization, instead of contining to fight the Combine since its 2 of them vs 1000000s of them. Is there any real reason to continue where that left off? Because I'm sure most fans want to see Gordon and Alx kicking ass once again. I'd love to see a new hero step up to the plate.
I think you may of forgot about the Borealis. Gordon and Alyx now have to go destroy it before the combine so they can't use it to open a portal to the combine homeworld to send much bigger and deadlier things to Earth to basically kill everything. There is a lot of need for a sequel. Also, you cannot have a half life game without Gordon, since he is the only person left on Earth who can use the HEV suit and he had been sent to City 17 by the Gman to stop the combine.
The HEV suit was the explanation for the Heads Up Display. Remember Barney in Blue Shift or The Lieutenant [I think that was his rank] in Opposing Forces, they put on suits that did = to what the HEV did for the player, which was a heads up display.

Don't tell me there isn't room within the long span of the Black Mesa Incident and City 17 for there to be a new story line with a new character. Hell, stage it in the 7 Hour War and WABAM, 7 or so hours of gameplay. Look, if you want Gordon as a character, then thats fine. But if your only reason to back it up is because "He is the ONLY human to use the HEV suit" then you have to rethink. The HEV suit is basically your Radiation suit of tomorrow. Its to dispose of harmful materials without affecting the person wearing the suit, couldn't you easily just shoot Gordon in the face [He never got his Helmet and never wears anything except his glasses] and slip on the suit. It was made for Black Mesa Scientists, in particular, not just for Gordon. There is no feasible reason for the only way Gordon can be the only protagonist is because he wears the suit, its the fucking future. Hell, just have the guy wear glasses and WABAM, Heads Up Display solved.

My Memory of Half Life 2 is a little bit more then sketchy, but wasn't Borealis a underlying theme that either of heroes actually cared about? For one the player might be aware of it but maybe not Alx, or any of the other people that mattered, since her father is dead.

Seriously, only Alx and Gordon can save the world? Why the hell not just have them say "Fuck this" and force another dude to do it. I mean, holy shit. Its two humans, only one in armor going up against, probably, THE most defended place in the whole fucking world. I don't think its possible to survive and last time I checked Gordon wasn't exactly the Sam Fisher or James Bond of luck. Even if it Crashed it wouldn't take long for Combine soldiers to be heading that way to repair it, their a giant alien hive mind in a sense, why else do they wear those helmets. Hell, it might just be a helmet that acts as a radio transmitter. I don't see the point in having Gordon go up against the whole Combine, remember in Half Life 1, the ending where Gordon decides to go fight the aliens, remember how fucked up he got?

Its not far out of reach for him to go to Borealis, but it will probably end with Humanity getting bummfucked to cum, because a dude in armor without a helmet and a chick with absolutely no armor tried to take on the alien race by them two selves. Theres plenty of reason for the series to continue, just I don't think the current story is going to work. But Valve has made some great shit happen before.

Well, in Half Life 3 they will probably take a lot of resistance members to find the Borealis. I agree with you that they should make a new character, but they shouldn't do it in the next game since the game will be the end of Gordon's trilogy of games. Also the reason only Gordon can do it is because he has a very close connection to the Gman, a person with probable massive power who has been sent by some mysterious race of things to get the earth situation under control, he chose Gordon to do that and Gordon has to do it out of his free will. Also, I am certain that Valve will be able to think of a way Gordon can destroy all the columbine for good which will probably not feel really contrived. Also, if the pair actually get there before the combine do (which is likely seeing as the combine have to take over lots of striders and vehicles and stuff) then the force they deal with will probably be the combine already there, which will be about the same amount they had to deal with in half life 2 and 1, the finale might be a massive battle between all of the resistance from around the world and the vortigaunts versus the combine, you just play as Gordon helping along. One more thing, video games have always had one or two people going up against massive odds, that is what is called tension, I would rather play a game where one guy with a relatively powerful suit who can fail instead of play a game with some supersoilder who can't die ever and has armour that blocks every bullet. It would make sense for the resistance to send the latter yes, but that would not make a good game.

I'm going to remain indifferent. I've been hurt before. I'll be excited when Valve announces it directly...

Looks sorta legit. Which does not at all mean it IS legit.

Although I do expect the official HL3 logo would look more like that website than the one on the t-shirt. The shirt one looks more like a promotional tool because at this point the association between Valve and the number 3 gets a greater reaction than that of a title of any franchise.

Snowflake lambdas are kind of a dead giveaway though.

I imagine that some troll, somewhere, is laughing at anybody that looks at that page.

Well, this is retarded. From my brief scanning of this topic's first page, I'm seeing two common reactions, neither one of which makes any sense. We've got the people actually talking about how they hope this is real, and the people saying it's fake, like it's some kind of amazing deduction. Anyone who read the article knows that the website was set up by some guy with no connection to Valve. That essentially proves that it's fake right there. There is absolutely nothing news-worthy, or even speculation-worthy, happening here.

The only reasonable explanation for this topic that I can come up with is that The Escapist has decided to follow in Valve's fanbase-trolling footsteps.

I really don't get the hype for the half life games. 1 and 2 were really good and i enjoyed them both and the episodes after them. But there is no real story to them and the main character has no real character at all.....I just can't seen what the hype is for. Yes they are really solid fps games, but still. Or is this more a game PC gamers are hyped about and not so much console gamers.

Also i think there will be no episode 3, im sure they dropped the whole episodic gaming thing a long time ago.

Well, as I write this it's currently "snowing" logos http://black-aperture.com/

Part of me THAT WANTED TO BELIEVE! Expected to visit this topic to discover Valve had made some kind of announcement as a sort of Christmas present, then there'd be a knock at my door and a smiling Santa Claus would be standing there with a copy of HL3 in his hand and it'd all end just like a low budget Christmas film.

...But I'll settle for snowflakes :)
