Played them thought they were just as generic as the next fps, physics engine hoorah never seen that done before, ohhh predictable sci-fi story edgy. Dosent hold a candle to System Shock.

I'm sorry, but after playing games with gorgeous graphics from the modern day then playing Half Life you have to wonder what all the fuss is about.

I can appreciate that this game would have been really amazing like 10 years ago when it was out, but how the fuck am I supposed to enjoy that?

Half Life 2 and the Episodes, on the other hand, were a pretty enjoyable experience all round.

Oh how i wanted to put "Half life is for noobs" but i fear i would be caste out as a troll forever, no matter how funny it would be. I have played the first half life, and my computer is quite old and shitty so i don't think i'll be playing the others any time soon. In all honestly i've become quite a avid console gamer now, don't really use the comp for gaming anymore apart from civ 3.

I play in widescreen on Half-Life: Source, and that works fine, as it has the same treatment as on all Source games

I played Half Life and Half Life 2 until I got bored with them. Never finished either and I never felt compelled to. I realize that Half Life is special because of when it was made, but all the fuss over half life 2? I don't get it.

HL1 and 2 are boring for me - just too long, not enough interesting things. EP1 and EP2 were absolutely fantastic, though. However, I disagree with the OP - I didn't play HL(2) for years after it came out, and it didn't actually do anything for me until the episodes were released. The half life series is one that can very easily be skipped without missing out on anything spectacular.

The original HL works fine on my 24 inch as well... well, bar the occasional crash, lol.. Go with Source - more stable for modern hardware. Or just wait an indefinite length of time for Black Mesa.

I have Half Life and I love it. I don't have HL2 or it's episodes, but as soon as I can I'll be getting the Orange Box so that won't be long coming.

And for people who think Halo fans are dumb fratboys only, that's a lie. I'm a Half Life fan and a Valve fanboy, and a Halo fanboy too. I also enjoy Gears of War. I also enjoy Tetris, PGR3, L4D, Dawn of War, Mario, Sonic, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Guitar Hero, Age of Empires, American McGee's Alice, Bioshock, Fallout 3, Oblivion, etc...

(I just wanted to point that out, not really part of the topic though I guess...)

And if you download the source engine mod Synergy you can play Half-Life 2, episode 1 and 2 in CO-OP.
