don't want to buy off Steam as I now have a widescreen and the res fucks every game over 5 years old up

I play in widescreen on Half-Life: Source, and that works fine, as it has the same treatment as on all Source games

Hmmm... Might take a look then.

The original HL works fine on my 24 inch as well... well, bar the occasional crash, lol.. Go with Source - more stable for modern hardware. Or just wait an indefinite length of time for Black Mesa.

I'm sorry, but after playing games with gorgeous graphics from the modern day then playing Half Life you have to wonder what all the fuss is about.

I can appreciate that this game would have been really amazing like 10 years ago when it was out, but how the fuck am I supposed to enjoy that?

Half Life 2 and the Episodes, on the other hand, were a pretty enjoyable experience all round.

Seriously? The Half Life graphics are great, i see no problem with them and i only just got The Orange Box.

Erm... The Orange Box doesn't contain Half Life X/

I've yet to meet a pc gamer who hasn't played the HL series. And I have played and found them all to be more like a tech demo for their physics engine than a game, so thank you and good day sir.

i still enjoyed them though, especially the bits where you saw bits from HL1...that was cool...

I made this thread because of my growing concern that too many pc gamers haven't played the original half-life, half-life 2, half-life 2 ep 1, half-life 2 ep 2. I strongly recommend that everyone who hasn't played those, should definetly play them.

And while everyone's at it, play Earthbound, DooM 2, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, Day of the Tentacle, Myst, the Chzo Mythos, Serious Sam, about 4 billion obscure indie games and all those other games which get barely a mention on the forums of this site.

But I don't think that will happen.

Might I also add I enjoyed the original Half-Life a lot more than any of it's sequels.

Me. Unless you count playing the demo of Half-Life 2 for a few minutes. I frankly can't see what all the fuss is about. I've never been a big FPS fan, other than when it comes to the Left 4 Dead series and Medal of Honour: Pacific Assault, and puzzles put me off.

I love the HL2 saga, and I got HL for a special deal of 1.99 a year ago

Really didn't like it, it hasn't aged well, espeecially now I judge it against its sucsessor
