Question...

How can the new improved graphics for Halo: CEA be worse than Halo 3 when it uses the graphics from Reach?....

Plus, it ISN'T the EXACT same game, there have been many modifications to the game.

Personally i can't wait for this ^^

I have been wanting to see a re-released version of Halo for a long time primarily because the mechanics have changed. With a massive shift towards multiplayer gaming, the mechanics of Halo's campaign have also changed. It's going to be interesting to see how the changes made in Halo 2 through Reach affect the performance of the original campaign.
I remember talking about this to some of my XBL teammates
"Wouldn't it be nice if they updated and re-released Halo:CE for the 360 with better graphics and stuff" I said
"Never gonna happen" came the unanimous answer.

Don't let me down 343.

Sure there are people who put a lot of love into their craft, the people at Bungie who made Halo were among them
I disagree with this. Bungie was a cash cow ever since they were bought bby microsoft and I will explain why.
Bungie started out as a company used to spread a free version of pong for mac. They got fairly famous in the mac community for some great games of their time. Then they started working on a new project, a space game focused around a huge ring in space. Halo. Originally it was an RTS, but when they were bought by microsoft they were told what to make. A shooter for their new console.
Being forced by the publisher to switch their project to something else does not eliminate any love for their craft that they had. From a Microsoft corporate perspective, it's possible that Bungie was a "cash cow" (They were trying to make money from an investment? DIABOLICAL!), but that doesn't in and of itself imply that all employees of Bungie resigned themselves to being nothing more than a moneymaking device.

So it's exactly like every other HD remake they are making and has the ability to switch graphics a. la. the Monkey Island re-release?

Stop directing your hate at Halo and redirect it at the more broad issue of the entire industry remaking games. If you don't like it, argue against it everywhere, not just here.

Oh god, how much I LOVE rants on new Halo games! Because it gives me the chance to say the same damn thing over and over again! And that would be...

If you dont like it, then dont buy it. Its not required.

Yes it is true that for the Campaign only. But it will have the Halo Reach multiplayer, with new maps +Reach maps. You could argue that is basicly them doing another Halo 3: ODST in a sense, but again, you dont need to buy it. If you dont want that visual upgrade for Halo CE, you can go back and play the original, and more power to you, but there is other that may love Halo but is hindered by the graphics, or they just might want the better graphics because, well, its prettier. And it also makes a small minority of us happy because even if you bought Halo CE through the 360's games on demand, there was no online, including online coop, so now we can finaly play it with our friends, or like me, play it with a brother or sister like we did a long time ago, back when we all were living in the same place.

So, if you think the game is a rip off and its not worth coughing up the money to buy CEA, then just dont buy it, no one is forcing you too.

I'm hoping you can get the maps day and date with the release of this game, separate from this game.

2 Words: Online Multiplayer (co-op that is). Thats all I really need.
Also...most Halo fans never played Halo 1. A scary number of people I met online in Halo 2-Reach did not play Halo 1. So sure, they are selling the same game again, but "if I havent played it, its new to me".
You may have played it. You may own it. Fine...dont buy it. I however will be playing online with my friends, and plenty of people will experience something they did not the first time around.

They are pitching this game as being exactly the same as the original Halo game. This is apparently meant to be a good thing. I've watched a few gameplay videos, and it definitely lives up to that promise. It is exactly the same. Enemies move and act the same. The sounds are identical. Environments are identical. They're even using the same code.

Halo Anniversary is powered by one thing and one thing alone: nostalgia. But if I wanted nostalgia, couldn't I just play the actual game that I've already owned for 10 years rather than spending $40 to buy it again?
Yes indeed, nostalgia. I do indeed own Halo:CE and it remains to this day one of my top 5 favourite games of all time. I will gladly pay money to be able to play it again and to see that world in beautiful HD. THAT aspect is obviously worth more to me than it is to you. Which is just fine, because evidently 343 is remaking this game for people like me. Besides, why would I want this game tampered with? To have it identical as before but with the OPTION to add better graphics, it's all I ever wanted! Anyway, it's been said that terminals will be added which link into Halo 4's storyline as well. Added continuity is always good with me... so long as Halo 4's storyline is good too, otherwise I'll just pretend none of this ever happened.

Besides, 343 are developing Halo 4 as well. It's not like Halo Anniversary is draining a huge amount of their resources on other projects. It is just a graphical update after all, right?

ThaMahstah said:
And the graphics, while definitely an upgrade, still fall short of most modern games. The graphics are superior to Halo 2 graphics, but definitely below Halo 3 graphics.
Seriously? It's already on a par with Reach IF NOT better than. Just look at those beach scenes! Besides, watch this video and you will hear that even this, released for E3, doesn't look anywhere as good as the current build does. Which means they have improved the visuals even more.

Is it weird that I imagine you as sounding like Yahtzee?
Wow, and I thought I was the only one...

OT: You know what, I recently decided to re-play all of the halo games in order (except for ODST because f**k it!) and as soon as I started with Halo:CE, the graphics honestly made me feel a bit disoriented even a tad disgusted... And I wasn't even intentionally paying any particular attention to it. But after a half an hour or so, the most amazing thing happened... that detail of graphic quality actually grew on me, I might even say that it actually fits the game. It's sort of like when one goes into a pool of cold water, after a while it stops feeling cold at all. Anyways, back to the point...

So, you right, Halo: Anniversary is nothing more than a cash-cow with the Microsoft logo burned onto its side, happily eating away at the herbs of nostalgia all while wearing a big-purple fluffy pimp hat.

Zelda re-releases one of its best games: OMG GOTYAY BEST EVER SO EXCITED I LOVE NINTENDO
Halo re-releases one of its best games: Money grubbing Micro$oft, freaking rip off artists, this is a discrace, if I wanted to play Halo CE I would.

If you even try to argue that you can get Halo on the Marketplace, look at the Wii market place.
This is better than OOT3D. It adds more maps, new co-op and nostalgia. So stop thinking it's terrible just because it is done by Microsoft and not your current favourite game company.

First of all, for those of us who like Halo, the original campaign is most definately worth revisiting in current gen graphics. They are also adding skulls to the mix so that people who want to augment their campaign play are able to. So far the only revealed skull is the Grunt Funeral skull you get as a pre-order bonus, but if they are adding one skull you can bet that there will be others. Online co-op is being added, the new multiplayer features and maps are being added.

Also, the bit about the graphics being below industry standard I think is purely speculation. We have yet to see the finished game and what they're showing off looks pretty good to my eyes. And while the original code is being run underneath, the graphics come courtesy of a whole other graphics engine running over top of the core Halo1 campaign.

As much as I'm looking forward to this game, there is one thorn in my side about it though. When I heard a Halo 1 remake in the works, I imagined the improved Flood physics from Halo 3 being implemented and since the core game is being released unchanged that means no watching as the Flood spores overtake the bodies of your fallen allies or enemies. No Flood headshots like in Halo 3, and no smashing up Flood infected fallen enemies so the bodies cannot be reinhabited by a new spore. This is sad. Nowhere near a dealbreaker, but more like a missed opportunity.

Beyond that one little thing though, I'm really looking forward to Anniversary. The original Halo's co-op campaign is still the measuring stick by which I judge all co-op campaigns so I'll be picking it up on day one. If all those things don't sound like a solid value to you, I'd suggest voting with your wallet and not buying in.

EDIT: I also meant to say, there's always a chance they'll add campaign scoring like every Halo title since 3 has had. If they do add that feature, then that alone would be worth the buy in cost in my book. But hey, value is in the eye of the beholder.

I'll buy it, so long as they atleast improved the AI of your marine allies. Ya know, less marines shooting each other in the backs at point-blank range with shotguns and sniper rifles.

And for God's sake tell me that marines aren't going to be throwing poorly placed grenades and end up killing your allies along with you. THEN I'll consider buying it. Right now, I keep hearing how the AI is being kept unchanged so that it plays EXACTLY the same. I sincerely hope that that isn't the case.

Why is no-one calling out Nintendo for doing the same thing with ocarina of time 3D?
In the first response on this thred i did call up Nintendo for doing the same thing with Legend of Zelda. Hoever, for some reason, they are allowed to do it.

Yet if Microsoft do something to make money, then they're Infidels and must be purged!!!

(Ugh. I cringe when people say "shooter" meaning "first person" rather than "space".)

Yes, an RTS was the original plan. But the second plan was the one that got people really excited back then: a third person shooter with team-based online multiplayer and vast open environments, for PC & Mac. Try to imagine a mix of Crysis, Tribes, and Giants. Epic, is it not? Then Microsoft bought Bungie, and Halo was pared down into something that the Xbox (and frat boys) could handle. Observe:

And even what Halo did deliver was not so special. Okay, sweet graphics, excellent soundtrack, solid plot, great voice acting. However: FOV too small, pace too slow, weaponry too limited, level design insanely repetitive at times. And they completely ruined the Flood in the sequel.

I will be buying Anniversary for two fundamental reasons.

1) I am a MASSIVE Halo fanboy. Every novel, every game at least 4 times, every piece of Halo I can get my nerdy little hands on.

2) While this may be heresy on THIS website, I care quite a bit about graphics. Halo: CE, while solid, is hard for me to play because of the outdated graphics. Understand that while I do NOT buy games solely on how good it looks, I don't buy the other way either.

I can't wait.
Bear in mind that it's only HERESY now that the Source engine is becoming outdated.

OT: My copy of Halo CE doesn't like the way I use a computer screen to play my Xbox (who needs a TV?). As such, it only works at my grandparetns' in Wales, where there is a 360 connected to a TV. I'm playing through the game at intervals there, but I want to be able to play it at home too, hence why I'm getting the Anniversary edition. Plus, I'm a sucker for the Halo story, and they're making additions to it (which in my mind is more important than making additions to the gameplay, which is almost perfect anyway - if you like that kind of thing). So, is that enough of an excuse for you?
