A bit more than borderline I would say.

OT: I have NO idea what you are on about.

Halo has not become COD. It certaintly has changed(I'd say for the worse) but it is not become COD. It's not trying to be realistic, it just happens because people whined about how Halo needs to be more "pro" so now most of the things people choose are the same.

If you want to see a series that has become like COD (looks around, raises flame shield)
Look at Battlefield 3, they have tried to make that much more like COD(Raises flame shield even higher and starts sweating).

I only played the BF3 beta btw.

Its just that weapons like the Assault Rifle, BR, and pistol are the easiest to use, which is saying something since none of the weapons have a very high skill ceiling.
I trust you because of the Breaking Bad avatar. I thought people used the "easy" guns more frequently.

Well how does that make it like Call of Duty.
Probably because all the inventive, alien weapons are completely ignored and useless in comparison to the pistol and DRM. If your just going to use those guns, why not play a war shooter?

so i've played five games of just regular ffa slayer on halo reach, and i've come to the conclusion that halo has pretty much just become call of duty. all anyone EVER plays is games that only use the dmr or the pistol and even when people are in different games all they ever USE is the dmr or the pistol. and always on one of three maps... it's really boring anymore. i'm considering just buying MW3 if only to get some use out of my xbox live gold account...
MFW:

Just because the weapons with enhanced aiming and high damage are popular doesn't make it "pretty much COD"

This sort of aiming will always be popular on console due to the imprecision of the analogue-stick aiming, it is very hard to get on target and harder to keep it on target, weapons with zoom and high staccato damage (rather than a continuous hose of damage) are going to suite those controls more.

The magnum has been one of the most popular gun in Halo since the very first iteration.

Games like UT and Quake and similar on PC there has not been this trend because mouse controls have the flexibility and capability to keep living up to people's skill level. Even though there are a lot of weapon with aim-down-sights.

One way or another, lets hope Halo 4 takes Halo back to its roots. And by that I mean no armor abilities, good maps and a PC version.
To each his own, I thought the armour abilities made the multiplayer much more interesting.

[sub]this is totally not because I suck at it whenever I'm not using Armour Lock. No, honest.[/sub]

Ok, I don't understand... How is it like CoD again? I've played CoD, and you cant just play the same maps, and noone certainly uses only pistols... And:

doesn't make any sense in the English language at all... Could you clarify you're opinions?
Also, isn't 'regular with variety' an oxymoron?
Might be best not to use one of the most common made up words while making one of the most common typos ever when doing the whole grammar snob thing, champ.

Anyway. When it comes to "serious" competition in video games, the only thing you can be sure of is that nearly everyone will pick the most agreed upon best options under the most controlled settings. These are the same people that will tell you you're not any good at the game unless you can play it on their terms, but will call you any number of inflammatory things should they not be able to beat you on yours.

Only way to get around this is to play with friends, or seek groups that endeavor not to play like they've come off a production line.

OT: well people try to copy what is sucessfull . Like you say buy MW3 and have fun with the game everyone is copying . Or play something that isn't a shooter .
Yep, that's right. Halo copied MW3. DEFINITELY. Modern Warfare 3 has been around since long before Halo was ever even dreamed of.

Er. The PC version of the first Halo didn't come out until nearly two years after the original, the second game nearly took three, and the series hasn't been on the platform since. PC doesn't really have much to do with Halo's "roots".

Mac does, though - or more accurately, Bungie's roots.

Halo was Call of Duty before Call of Duty was Call of Duty, if you know what I mean.

As for people only wanting to use MLG weapons... well, yeah. In Halo 1, it was the pistol. In Halo 2 and 3, it was the BR. In Halo Reach... I don't know because that game is bad. I assume it's whatever gun has good accuracy and power, similar to the other games.

not sure what ur getting at. The halo series started before CoD, so the halo multiplayer modes came first all the company did is offer an alternative starting weapon. Slayer has, in essence, not changed in 10 years.

Not really relevant, especially since the series isn't even handled by Bungie anymore.

MLG was a serious component in ruining the reputation of Halo and giving it that stereotype of an unfriendly community. Because the MLG obsessed kids tried to tweak every single playlist that in their eyes had something to do with, "skill" and cried and trolled and flamed anyone who disagreed.

The change from Halo 3's focus on ranked playlist and skill based ranks to Reach's focus on longevity of play and credits was the best thing that happened to the game. No more skill wankfests in the forums, in fileshare, and in games. And still you saw the most complaining from people who always inhabited the most under-populated playlists who always held their sense of superiority from playing the "skilled" playlists.

1) As others said, CoD copied Halo first, not the other way around.

2) Reach only updated to the gaming standards of today, not copied CoD directly.
I concur with your assessment. Also Halo provides a very different experience from Call of Duty, at least within the realm of first person shooters. I'm not exactly sure where the OP is coming from.

EDIT:

Just so you know, the Call of Duty series existed well before the first Halo. I believe you're specifically thinking of the Modern Warfare series, which started out as a part of the Call of Duty series but has evolved to only carry the title "Call of Duty" for brand name recognition. I was just thinking how funny it would be if they ported Halo 4 to mac, but not PC. I doubt they'll port to either, though (why does MS dislike the market it basically owns completely so much?)

Businessmen are a strange and timid lot.

"Hey guys, Halo sells like crazy. We should port it to PC. You know, the thing that's basically a dynamic Xbox. May want to port it within a year this time, too."

"No way. Someone might pirate it."

"Yeah, but Halo's really popular. I think more than enough people will buy it to justify the expense of porting it if we get it out while it's hot."

"No way. Someone might pirate it."

"Well, maybe we could make it more attractive by making it a downloadable thing with a reduced pri-"

"No way. Someone might pirate it."

"Oh, fine."
