Been playing for a few hours now and guys, this game is awesome.

Really really great.

It's fast paced, fluid and action packed, and the kills are hilarious...

First day purchase for me.

I really enjoy playing the Halo Reach Beta. I like the way you earn experience points now. It is much better than having to get first, second, or third place in a match. I may buy Halo Reach when it comes out. I heard Mafia II and L.A. Noire also come out around the same day Halo Reach does so I will have to think about which one I want more.

I played it for several hours on end (Tag is Doinstuffman38), and I really enjoy it. The Needle Rifle is crazy, possibly my new favorite weapon, next to the Focus Rifle.
I'm not a fan of the default controls, but they do have the classic button layout available (with grenade swap replaced by armor ability, swap is now at X).

Grenades are no longer useless, another positve.
I think the BR's replacement, the DMR, should have some more power behind it, but it's still quite effective.

Also, the new Headhunter game type needs some work.

All in all, fantastic beta thus far.

I love the game so far, I just have one complaint. The melees are WAY too overpowered. Everyone keeps meleeing me at full shields, knocks out my shields in ONE melee, then before I can shoot or hurt them, they melee me again. It should take at least to hits to kill someone's shields, I think.
Am I not right in thinking Halo's always had that feature on it's spartans?
yes

well, two melees to kill isn't bad. one to knock out shields and the other to kill, at least you won't have rushing melee killwhores. Reach is pretty fun, it took a little while to get back used to playing halo again, but once I did, it was pretty fun. I didn't notice any hiccups, so I guess I missed out on the server meltdown.

As silly as it sounds, my rustiness showed quite a bit, as I hardly ever picked up a weapon lying around. The DMR is cool, but I only used it in swat. Is it replacing the sniper rifle completely? and I'm thinking by the time Reach comes out the needle rifle will be nerfed a bit, that thing's brutal.
The sniper rifle is only on one of the beta maps, DMR is the equivilant of the BR

I like it, i love running around with the camo, getting hit, cloaking and creeping behind them.

Also is it just me or does the DMR feel a little underpowered? Its essentially the pistol with a slower rate of fire and what i reckon, less accuracy.

That download speed sounds better. You're probably benefiting from all the sane people who go to sleep at night being logged off now. ;)

When you get it, I'm sure you'll love it, too. I've always enjoyed how laid back the players on Halo generally are. At least that's been my experience.

Hey don't knock insomnia... it's great for getting work done when you do music :D

I like the vibe on Halo too but there always seems to be waaay more little kids on it than any other shooter.

Maybe it's the pink guns or something.
Haha! You must have one of the largest catalogs of music then. I think you are a cyborg or something.

"Sleep is for pussies! Just lean me up against the wall if I seem out of it. I'll be alert again soon enough."

I actually didn't notice any little kids last night. But then, very few people had their headsets on, which is so not a problem.

Pink guns are awesome. Particularly if they explode people.

I was a little frustrated by this at first, but then I got used to it. I just learned to melee them back quickly. Melee, jump, then melee again as you come down on them. That worked for me.

Of course, if they come at you from behind it's a problem.

So far I'm loving it. But my only complaint is how I sometimes lose a lot of Cr for some strange reason.

Gamertag Volkan731 if anyone is interested in playing. Just send me a message.

Another random question for you all... I am pretty new to Halo online and want to know what people feel is the better control setup: Normal or Bumper Jumper?
Halo 3 I used bumper jumper exclusively, but since you have to hold certain armor abilities, and the armor ability button is now X if you use bumper jumper, it'd be a major handicap.
Use default, or, if you hate new things, use recon. Recon is really similar to the Halo 3 controls.

Also: Invisibility kicks ass!

This is because of Bungie's new shield system. No longer can you do the old AR attack where you spray their shields to low, and then kill them in 1 punch. They now have it set to where (except for with certain weapons, IE sniper rifle/rocket launcher) if you have any shields left, it will absorb all the damage dealt to you. In other words, if he has almost no shields left whatsoever, the damage from the punch will only knock out the shields, and the remaining damage DOES NOT carry over to the health. Because of this, no matter what it will take 2 melees to kill someone, unless you took out all their shields first. So everyone who's trying to do the AR + melee combo is going to be beaten by anyone who simply punches them twice.

I have to say, I'm really liking it. I haven't had this much fun in Halo for a long time, and for that matter, not since Halo 2 has it felt this balanced. I'm really going to have fun with this over the next while. :)

Yes but you're a girl, you don't have a built in aversion to the colour pink that's been knocked into you from years of schoolyard sexual politics!

Pink isn't a very manly colour and all that. Which does make the guns kind of awesome in a weird way... I do like that about Halo though. It's not brown and grey. Although those two new maps are a bit dull looking.

As for the music, believe it or not I have over 200 songs stored on various hard drives.

I've still gotten one-shot-killed form shotguns though, with full shields.

I'm loving the beta so far, I can only think of two complaints.

It's very easy for the attacker to win on one flag ctf on Swordbase, and the plasma launcher probably needs toning down just a little, I mean, it's like a rocket launcher with a huge clip, homing capability and sticky projectiles. Ouch.

Played the beta, and after the shenanigans of the day one lag fest, it seems to be going good now, and is amazing.

I love the jet pack.

And is it me, or do the hit-boxes seem off? I always have to aim at the top of their head for a headshot.

I've got a new small complaint.

I dislike how if your playing Stockpile on that open map (forgot its name), and all the flags like to spawn near red's point. Really bad if your blue team.

Okay, the main thing wrong with this game, by far, is that the assassination mechanic can be interrupted by team mates. Seriously, this is a big deal. It's fine that people can save their allies from an enemy assassination, but the amount of times my kill has been stolen by team mates during the kill animation. I have no idea why they would allow people to do this, but it sucks.

Edit: Other than that though, I'm loving it.

Plus, has anyone found any bugs yet?

I found one, though I didn't have enough understanding of it to properly report it.

I went into/came out of (can't remember which) the armour lock just as a grenade exploded under my feet. From then on, my shields were down, and wouldn't recharge. A while later, some guy finally shot me and it just appeared at full strength again.
