Since everyone had their panties in a twist, do not read on unless you have played, because you may be SPOILED. LIKE OMG

The subject line pretty much speaks for itself. I have played through all of the Halo games, starting with 1 on X-Box; 2,3,Wars, ODST on 360. I took the time to read the book the week before the game came out. And I honestly expected an epic story campaign of proportions which could never be touched. We were going to be playing the untold story of the planet side fight during the fall of Reach. The market campaign played up the hype of intense combat scenario's while slowly but surely losing. I felt that the campaign was way to short and abbreviated to make any sort of sense. In some missions you are running through the mountains, next your in outer space, then you are underground and the Covenant are still able to drop ship there. It all felt very inconsistent. Then your team just keeps dropping like flies at predictable intervals. It all felt forced, the only thing that really sunk in an made the game feel epic is the epilogue where you have one Objective: Survive and you fail at that...

Does anyone else feel like the hype that was created for the game was more exciting then the game itself?

I didn't follow the hype (as I do with every game), so I'm really loving it. The online is tons of times better than Halo 3's, although the campaign is rather "eh". It does a very good job of telling the events that led up to Halo: Combat Evolved's story, though.

I was under the impression that every game after Halo Combat Evolved was over hyped.

90 percent of things don't live up to the hype, some fail harder than others.

but more importantly, have you heard about spoiler tags? you don't give out details but it seems like you've given away most of the plot

Don't spoil things like the end of the game. We all know everyone eventually dies and the battle is lost, but effective storytelling techniques that make it more impacting (like what you said was the "only thing that really sunk in") are better left untold until they are discovered by the player. Be careful in the future.

I feel that you should put spoilers up on this.

I haven't played it yet, so I have no opinions other than what I just said.

You realize this game had the longest campaign out of any Halo? Honestly, complain about THEM, not this one if you want short campaigns. Just pay attention, there is a reason for everything. Plus, many bought this game for the multiplayer, seeing as the new Forge World is impressive. If you ask me this game seems much more epic game and story-wise than other Halos. So, no, actually, I completely disagree with literally everything you just typed.

Well then I will have saved people $60 with this paragraph. I am actually glad it was a present for me and I did not buy it myself.

no i absolutly loved Reach, it was the best out of all the Halo games. Its not like how MW2 was over hyped then the story is all WTF and online is laggy as hell.

Also, everyone should have known, or atleast had a very good idea about the outcome of the story, seeing as how we allrdy knew that Reach was going to fall.

I haven't even played it yet and I can tell it's going to be the best of the four. COD's a lot worse at locale swapping. One mission you're in Afghan, the next Russia, then Russia again but in a different part of Russia, then Rio de Janeiro(I know I spelled it wrong), and then in suburban America. As for length issues, I can beat ODST in several hours. It's much shorter.

Halo:Reach has one of the BEST campaigns I have played in a Halo game. In that case, it was not let down for me. The ending was the best ending ever. Extremely simple, but I found an unusual sense of loneliness at the end.

The multiplayer is also very fun as well.

I've played all Halo games and had fun with them (ODST was 'meh'), but this one stands out as the best.

I was just thinking about it and some of the let down might be because I have been playing ODST lately. I mean it felt just like being a drop shock trooper.

I'm not trying to be mean here to anyone, but saying the ending was spoiled is kind of..well unforgivable. I mean, its been known for the past 9 years =S

Though as an upside, said knowledge got me a free Halo:Reach t-shirt yesterday, because of the event at our store...even though I don't even own a 360 or played one since the first

Every game that is hyped at all is the "biggest let down ever" to someone. Halo Reach is the last game of a long running franchise (at least by Bungie) that has sold millions of games and consoles with them. It COULDN'T live up to the hype.

thats because these are early versions of Spartans, they are not as advanced as our good friend Sierra 117

(see: Sexual Intercourse)

On Topic: Yeah, it's typical. Sequels rarely live up to expectations and in the video game world it seems like big-name franchises are doing everything possible to fuck things up. Bioshock 2 was a bad idea from the start and the end product proved it. Modern Warfare 2's story-line was a misguided mess of cheezy action scenes and slow-mo death sequences(...and the multiplayer is campy shit, but that's another story). Dragon Age: Awakening was a disgrace(big, big DA:O fan and...sigh).

To play the other side a bit...sequels are so tough, especially when the stakes are big. You have a big fanbase that loves your product and wants the new installment. Not too new, mind you, gotta keep the core gameplay the same. But add things. Nothing drastic, but enough to justify the sequel. And tie in things from the old game. Fans love that. Not too much though or it gets corny. And so on...

If I ever make it as a published author I'm not doing sequels. Triple stamped it, no erasies.
