This shouldn't really be a spoiler to anyone who has read the book or cares about the story at all.

I liked and disliked the ending at the same time because this is the ending.Your final objective is: Survive .You run across the a dusty map trying to survive as long as you can against a bunch of enemies who have gotten super strong and constantly emerge from the dust in front of your escape path.I ran through the barren wasteland for a while but then i realized what this level was I was supposed to die. Eventually I try to suicide with my fuel rod gun into a massive group of elites but failed and an elite stabbed me in the back before I could do any damage.

You get killed and a bunch elites take turns stabbing you in the chest.I watched as my awesome spartan who I spent loads of credits customizing get his guts punctured. At least the elites were happy about it,I wouldn't be surprised if they started teebagging me after the cutscene.

I liked the ending because that was the way it was supposed to end, but I hated seeing my spartan get repeatably and brutally stabbed by a bunch of elites who he could have stopped with the fuel rod gun on his back.

I found it surprisingly (excuse my artsy faggotry here) poetic. You know that you are not going to make it out, and the fact that it lets you off the hook with some interactivity in the scene made it much more immersive, and actually made me feel at least some kind of emotional attachment to my faceless generic space marine.

or saw the leaked ending online on youtube :D

I found the ending ok but the objective to "survive" can be misinterpreted easily, if this was on PC I would've had reload as soon as I was doomed.

for those who wants to see the ending.

Ill just paste what I posted in a similar thread.

I was actually pretty surprised by it. I think everyone that says Reach has a crap story is missing the point. The story itself is incredibly simple, there's nothing particularly special about it, but there doesn't need to be. What Reach excels at (actually, I think Halo in general does this well) is creating an amazing atmosphere. The music and the art direction are both absolutely fantastic, they're so melancholy and they manage to bring the planet and characters to life.

Especially the level after the credits. That was absolutely masterful. you're alone for the first time in the game, surrounded by Covenant and just given the objective; 'Survive'. At first I was excited, preparing to make the fuckers pay, and pay hard. But after a few minutes I just lost the will for it. The team is dead, the planet is broken, I'm possibly the last remaining piece of resistance on the planet. The environment is covered in thick fog, and you can see countless Covenant moving within it, as well as dropships circling overhead. The cracks started appearing in my visor and I just thought 'what's the point?' It's not going to achieve anything, we've lost. So I just charged at the nearest Elite, took him down with a left hook and then gave in. It was absolutely fantastic, and yet so simple.

I think that's the point of the cutscene. That entire scene is meant to give you a sense of hopelessness. You can't win. Bodies of other spartans litter the ground. You're entire team is listed as MIA in the UNSC records and you a never ending horde of people coming at you.

You gave your life to stay and make sure the Spirit of Autumn escaped reach. It did and now Humanity has a fighting chance and John 117 plans to take your place. It's meant to tug at the heart strings and even then, it does a decent job.

I still don't see why the UNSC couldn't send a bunch of random soldiers to fire the M.A.C gun. Their expendable and the second to last spartan is not.

I liked it. You knew you had lost, but you felt like giving the covenant a final "Fuck you!" in the form of a pile of corpses. The little touch of your visor cracking as your health went down was nice too.
Apparently there was no legendary bonus though.
I would have liked it if there was something like Noble Six beating said elites, only for the camera to zoom out and we see the certain doom amassing around them. Or something similar. No legendary bonus just isn't right.

I apologize in advance for sounding like a total douchebag here, but you don't actually see Nobel Six get stabbed, it blacks out just as they're about to die.

OT: I liked it and, like many others, thought it was artsy. It was a good move by the story writers and really conveyed that yes, the cheif really is the last of his kind.

Unless you read the books, that is.

The ending was the only part of the campaign I actually enjoyed, the rest is 4 hours of schizophrenia. I do think the fog, music, and eventual cracks on your visor do a good job with the atmosphere. This was like a cherry on top of a dog turd.

What happened to Jun is he alive, because I thought Masterchief was the only who was definitely alive. (rest are dead or a few are MIA)

These were my thoughts too. Considering the game was meant to be Bungie's final farewell to Halo and a love letter to the fans (you literally get a love letter from them when you finish it) the lack of a little bonus for the hardcore few who suffer the punishment of Legendary seems wrong.

However, the ending really did tug at my heart strings a bit, and was just one of many examples of the game taking a simple theme and piling on the emotion. I finally took out that Covenant cruiser and felt great, but the post-credits sequence really brings you back down to Earth as you realise there's no hope for you. The other Halo games never had that emotion to them. Another moment that struck a chord for me was when Kat was shot, mid-sentence, out of nowhere. She wasn't that engaging a character, but it really rammed the point home that time is running out, and you're never safe. You can be killed anytime, anywhere by anything and it was a really powerful scene.

OT:Yes,I loved the ending.at first I thought it was the legendary ending but I was playing Heroic. It made me think that bungie was foreshadowing their end as in they are surrounded by game producers(most likely activison)and tries to kill every last son of a ***** of a game producer but eventually dies BUT!later microsoft comes back searching for bungie and realizes that their dead.
so.....yeah

[edit]if the Master chief was on the pillar of Autumn why didn't he come out and assisst Noble Team?

It looks like he/she actually blocks it with their arm.

It was funny at that point both my brother and I said at the same time "I'm going down but I'm taking as many of you mother-f**kers with me!".

Considering how brutal the Elites are now, you do hold your own for a while before being curb-stomped into oblivion.

Some ass hat on escapist forgot the a spoiler box so I had already accepted I was gonna die when I started playing game. /;

Edit: There should be a achievement like "glorious ending" for killing 50 enemies before dying. That way I would feel complete and ready. :p

Meh it was pretty crappy because they are like hey have fun, but I knew that I wasn't aloud to win.

So why bother trying to hold out if you have to lose? It's just a way to waste time so I killed myself right away.

If the Master Chief fell at Reach, all hope would be inevitably lost.

There was no reason for him to do so, when Noble Six was still alive and fighting the brutal end.
