It's the military. The UNSC deploys you and you do what they tell you to. It's a military campaign and nothing more and I'm getting annoyed at people who make these threads for not recognizing it.
Ever relies that Cortana has the same voice actor as Halsey? Even i got that and I'm not the sharpest blade in the set. I just put 2 and 2 together, Cortana is based off (or summit like that) Dr. Halsey, that is why Cortana is so important and at the same time, Halsey...
Look at Jorge's Helmet, Look at the Chiefs...They are Both Spartan II and that is why Jorge is Huge, Again, that should be fairly obvious if you ave played the other Halo's.
And seriously? what happened to the Commander? Did you not see him Drive his Pelican into the Scarab?...
And yes, Noble 6 (I admit you do need to do a bit of research for this one) was replacing another Spartan, i think only the Commander and Kat(?) were Noble team Originals.
You were part of the space battle for a short time... All them ships coming out of slip space maybe? I admit that bit was rather short though.
And please...your joking? It didn't feel like we were losing the battle? No massive invading army? Something tells me you did not watch some of the cut scene's. You clearly see (in the mission with you and Jun) a massive invading army...with more to come...
*Sigh* if you have played all the Halo's you should get some of it, and you should know from playing Halo: CE that Reach Falls, and was the heart of the UNSC Military (Hence you have so much shit in Halo: CE .
I haven't even read the books and know most of this but i suppose some people don't catch easily. =\
Sorry if it sounds like im flaming or anything, but most of the stuff is fairly simple...
Dr. Halsey is the person behind the Spartan program.
Jorge is beefier than the rest because he's a Spartan II while the rest are IIIs. IIs were better, whereas IIIs were the mass production Captain America.
I understood the story easily, having played all the previous Halo games and looked at some of the stuff in the novels. What I can tell you is that it is a send off game for those who have played the rest, its not meant to bring new players in cos its the end (middle really, but you know what I mean.) Halo: CE didnt explain who the Covenant were or who Master Chief was or why they were running away to accidentally find Halo, but you went along with it. Its not the only series to do something like this either, Gears of War starts several years into the war with the Locust and explains fuck all about the war, but that doesnt stop you from playing it.
No - Before you try and correct me, you are wrong.
If you believe me to be wrong, you need to sprint as fast as you can to the nearest library and open the first book you see and begin reading in earnest.
It doesn?t matter which one. Anyone will do?
Ugh, I certainly *hope* that you don't point to that. If Halo: Reach was based off the book then I'd have to agree with the OP here. That book was drivel.
Of course, it prob was based on the book, but hey, I can hold out hope for a better script, can't I?
Halo reach was a game meant for people that have already played previous Halo games. (E.G EVERYONE!)
It was Bungie's last game and took place in a Universe already set up with backstory, if they had to explain everything it would have ruined the game.
I do agree with you that it would be confusing to someone not familiar with Halo, but when it is the Sixth(Why not Seventh?!) game in a series, you can't ask it to be newb friendly.
i understand your point but it's really one for the fans story wise. because after 4 games, it has its fans and haters so most new comers i would think will have been informed by a freind befor playing.
I think it was more about the delivery of the story than the story itself. I must say that it was delivered very awesomely. That and the fact that if you played the other Halos this stuff is basic.
When a game hits 4 and a half games, it should have some kind of story. That's not to say that 1-3 doesn't have a story. They did a pretty good job of making us pay attention and follow a few choice characters. With this one, they drop all new characters on us (which isn't totally unexpected, since it's a prequel) and try to give them a level of humanity by occasionally having them remove their helmets while talking. They worked the gameplay very well, but they were really lazy on making a beginning story to the whole thing.
Sarcasm aside, your right. It doesn't explain much. But Bungie basically made the game for those that actually followed the story and lore and dug deep into them. Despite the inconstancies with The Fall of Reach I found it to be really well told and well done. Most likely since I already knew everything I needed to know.
Now to answer your questions:
"Where is Reach": Reach is the UNSC(human army/navy headquarters in the galaxy). I'm not sure exactly where it is on the galactic map, but its close to Earth.
"What is a Spartan": An augmented super-soldier first build to help quell the insurrection(or rebels, more on that later). They were eventually re-assigned to deal with the Covenant.
"What the hell is a banshee and how do I take one out": A Covenant flying vehicle. You take it out as you would any vehicle, with rockets or any other form of explosives.
"Who are all these people": Which "people"? The Spartans are Noble Team, a team of Spartan 3's. Spartan 3's are basically "cheap" Spartan 2's and were "mass produced" since they were easier and cheaper to make than Spartan 2's(Master Chief and Jorge are Spartan 2's).
"What are Spartans for": At first they were to deal with the rebels. Now they're dealing with the aliens.
"Who are these rebels and what do they rebel against": The Rebels or insurrectionists are just that, rebels. Not much is mentioned about them from the games though. They're rebelling against the UNSC since they believe the outer-most planets should be independent from them.
"WHO THE HELL ARE THE COVENANT AND WHY DOES IT MATTER THAT THEY ARE ON REACH": They are a conglomeration of various alien species hellbent on activating the Halo rings, finding Forerunner artifacts, and killing any alien that gets in their way. Its important that they're on Reach because Reach is Humanities biggest military instillation. It houses most of the UNSC's military might(outside of Earth), is the training ground for the Spartans, and is basically Humanities last very important planet not destroyed by the Covenant. Basically if they take Reach, the next stop is Earth.
Who is Dr Halsey?: Creator of the Spartan program which produced Master Chief.
Why should I care?: This is humanities last stand before Earth. If they fail at Reach, the Covenant will go to Earth next, and finish humanity off.
Who is that commander dude and what happened to him in the end?:
The Spartan Commander? Your leader? He ran the pelican into the Scarab on the last mission so you can get Cortana to Keyes.
Why is Jorge the only Spartan who is mega tall like the Chief?:He's a Spartan 2, as is the Chief. You and your other squadmates are Spartan 3's. Spartan 2's are taller, stronger, faster, and overall better than Spartan 3's.
Bungie made this game as a good-bye to their series. As a big thank you to the fans who stuck by the series for 10 years. For the fans that read the books, dug deep into the lore, for those who really love the series. Others can enjoy it as well though.
It has a story, it's just a very basic one. Aliens want to kill humans, humans fight back. The end.
I never pay attention to any names of people because they're completely unimportant. Hell, the entire Noble team's personality was basically what weapon they used. That's it.
And that's all you need. Shoot aliens. Look at pretty graphics. Then shoot more aliens.
It's like playing Final Fantasy. You're gonna be confused as heck unless you open up the fastest way to find info.
You obviously don't know the lore of Halo and because of that, you both got confused. Doesn't mean the game has no story, it simply means that you just don't know what the hell is going on. It's the 6th game. You wouldn't jump into Devil May Cry 4 or Metal Gear Solid 4 without playing the others would you? It's your own damn fault for not knowing what happened. Not the writers.
Dr. Halsey is the person behind the Spartan program.
Jorge is beefier than the rest because he's a Spartan II while the rest are IIIs. IIs were better, whereas IIIs were the mass production Captain America.
Also the II treatment had a very high mortality rate.
The IIs were children who had shown signs of physical and mental superiority who were kidnapped by the government and trained and altered.
It takes a long time to make a II and more than half of them die in the process.
98% of the population is generally average, and like .2% are really spectacular. You have a very small pool to work from, most of them die, and it takes a long time to do.
You can't just "Make more".
Most of the Spartans died on Reach, and the rest of the Halo games take place within a fairly short time of eachother I think.
I really wish the OP hadn't complained about simple things the story doesn't explain, because that clouded everyone's judgment.
The game literally has no story. You can take most of the missions (excluding two or three), mix them up, and it would make no difference. That is a game without a story, and, as he said, you're wrong if you think otherwise.
I didn't buy it but a friend of mine that is a HUGE Halo fan did he got what was going on because he had the reach novel in all that. I didn't get much of a story out of it was for putting a visual to the book I'm guessing for the fans. I didn't read the book so I really had no clue as to what was going on. I would have liked some simple questions answered at end. Like who was this AI that I was taking to the Pillar of Autumn? I thought it was Cortana but my friend then told me it was some other AI and that Cortana absorbs part of it into her or something like that...
But all & all I didn't get much story out of it either.
