The party system of Halo 2 was a pretty original innovation - at least for consoles, I'm not sure if it was already done on the PC - and CE's online multiplayer was more special in the way the co-op campaign behaved. That, and the fact that multiplayer on consoles wasn't a terribly streamlined experience until it came along.PopeJewish said:The single player is filled with mediocrity. But even that aside, everything about multiplayer is a been-there done that feel to it (aside from, possibly, vehicles. I don't know what game was first to do that, it's possible it was halo though I'd somehow doubt it). But like I said, most of the mechanics are taken directly from Tribes (regenerating shields, floaty jump, hell now they've even stolen the jetpacks) but Tribes did it better. Plus in tribes you could ski which was amazing and no game has ever done that since.MiracleOfSound said:But in what way is it mediocre?PopeJewish said:Cause the Halo series in general is pretty mediocre. I never understand why people hate Halo 3 so much, it's far more balanced than COD.
The mechanics are tight, it's balanced, the maps are well designed, the frame rate is solid, it looks good...
How is it mediocre?
fair enough. I suppose it can be argued that for consoles it's a pretty innovative experience. Just overall I've never been particularly impressed with teh series. I'm playing through Halo ODST atm (picked it up used for cheap (well, cheap for japanese game prices)) and it feels more like a chore than a game. Not nearly as good as even Halo 3's single player was. Traveling aroudn the city at night is incrediboring, though at least you get a vehicle after a bit so those segments don't last nearly as long. Halo 3, I suppose, is probably the weakest of the Halo games in terms of multiplayer innovation. There is the Forge - including the screenshot and video editor and whatnot - but what made Halo 3 a little more than mediocre was the persistent stats on Bungie's website, and I guess Waypoint, too.
So, just to clarify, we cant use Elites in the same freedom as we have in Halo2/3? They are purely restricted to Invasion?Vrex360 said:Yeah, you can. In Invasion one team is elites, the other is Spartans.Reep said:Im sure im the only one asking, but can you use Elites in any game mode? Ive only seen them in an Invasion style game and not in a mixed race slayer.
I've also seen gameplay footage that clearly shows elites battling other elites. So my theory is that there is Spartan versus Spartan gametypes, Elite versus Elite gametypes and Spartan Versus Elite gametypes.
Should be awesome, I love playing as an elite.... as most people on this site have no doubt guessed.
correct-ish. they are purely restricted to certain gameplay modes. They're not just a skin change any more. They are taller, move differently, and have completely regenerating health (unlike spartans who have regenerating shields but require health packs to regain lost HP) They also have different load-outs than the SpartansReep said:So, just to clarify, we cant use Elites in the same freedom as we have in Halo2/3? Well my mighty Sangheilian bretheren, tonight we shall tramble the shrivelled remains of all those weak and useless humans..... MWA HA HA HA!!!
I'll agree with you on that, travelling New Mombasa can get pretty boring. The campaign picks up a lot towards the end though.PopeJewish said:fair enough. that's what I'm hoping. I'm getting there now (i just found the last "clue" thing last night and will play that mission tonight before the girlfriend gets home) and then after that, looking at the achievements, it seems there are still a couple more missions. Hoping those are more fun than the first half of the game. The day missions were standard halo, and decent enough, just the night missions i couldn't stand.MiracleOfSound said:I'll agree with you on that, travelling New Mombasa can get pretty boring. Agreed, the class system reaks of trying to copy CoD. I personally liked Halo for not having it, it kept the game about your playing skill, not you ability to pick out the best perks. I'm hoping that the class system will be as shallow as it seems, I don't want to find my self constantly min-maxing.CloggedDonkey said:looks pretty good, but I am not a fan of the class system. maybe it just let's you choose your starting weapon, that's fine, but it looks like you can choose perks, which is copying off CoD4 and the like, which I would use if I want to play CoD4, not Halo.
Yeah, like the mark and execute from Splinter Cell. Its not like your gonna say, eff it, Im not gonna use it.Jasper Jeffs said:I know you can turn it off, but that's not my point. I'd rather aim assist not be in the game at all, if I turn it off I'm fucking myself over, because in battles where I don't have the advantage over the enemy, they'd have the upper hand in having auto aim on, especially with the fucking melee and close range assault rifle spray.tellmeimaninja said:Why is this complained about so often? I distinctly recall the option to turn off aim assist. Do I have the only copy in the bloody universe with that ability?Jasper Jeffs said:I thought it looked pretty mediocre. It looks a lot like Halo 3, which I don't like much either. I can't tell from that video if there is aim assist, that's what makes Halo that little bit shittier for me, the fucking aim assist.
It gets more linear now. More focused. And there's an awesome vehicle section that I won't spoil for you.PopeJewish said:that's what I'm hoping. I wonder if they'll have the same hit-boxes, I remember Halo 3 had some problems with that.Irridium said:Really? I would never have guessedVrex360 said:Yeah, you can. I'm curious to see if you can have Spartans and Elites on the same team. It would be interesting to say the least, and could add some tactical value. Like sending in the Elites first to soak up the gunfire!
To clarify here is the size comparison between a Halo Reach Spartan and a Halo Reach Elite:Wardog13 said:We aren't humans.....were SPARTANS!!Vrex360 said:Invasion eh?
