If you're just going to be fucking haters don't post.
My apologies for having an opinion that differs your own. Obviously I should only state my opinion in public forums when it is the general consensus. Oh wait... actually the topic is what I thought of the reach trailer/announcement. The "I love bungie so much I would let all of their employees brick in my face" thread is else-where. Here's some advice; If you can't handle someone not loving something you like, then kindly remove yourself from the internet.

I am simply a person who has no love for Halo, little love for FPSs, and even less love for competitive multi-player. Even with these things in mind, I am a person who is of the opinion that even the original Halo was hardly revolutionary, and has added even less to gaming through it's sequels. Yes, it's fairly well tweaked and polished. Yes, it's visuals are impressive, but beyond that it has nothing to offer. Even on it's positive points there are games that do it better.

Now before you go raging, please understand my position as someone who does not long for master chief's balls on my chin. For every added degree of love and fan-boyism that you portray for something like this (especially in disbelief that someone couldn't adore your precious Halo), people like me have to compensate with our hate. A lot of people can't swallow their pride and admit that a lot of their burning hate for something is fueled by other people's love for it, but it's quite common. I feel the need to counter-balance people who damage the gaming industry by throwing their money at the prettiest game on the shelf, all the while completely ignoring the golden titles in the bargain bin. Actual gamers, like myself, remember a better time in gaming.

Hate me if you want; I simply would like to see a better game take the throne. Is it so wrong to want to see gaming progress? Gaming will never be taken seriously as a creative medium so long as our lead ambassador is a green, faceless space marine who battles hammer wielding gorillas in space with guns that look and sound as if they fell off the Wham-o production line. Of course, it's probably hopeless seeing as how something meaningful with an actual message and some of the tightest gameplay to be seen in years is released and all that is left to note is retarded ass memes and morons who won't shut the fuck up about how the "cake is a lie".

wow, you sound almost exactly like yatzee...

but i have to agree about halo not having much to offer. The first halo introduced the shield idea, stopping the need for everyone scavenging for health kits every time they are hit, and the second one introduced the health regeneration, where health kits arent needed. after this, there is nothing else they are offering for us, apart from story. as i said before, the books give you the story of whats going on, and it is interesting. but there is a limit of how much you can milk the story. if it was just halo 1,2 and 3, that would be fine, but now, it is just a money printer.

dont get me wrong, they are good games, but they arent great. i wont go out and buy them, but instead go to a friends place to enjoy it. but it is time for a new genre or idea to come out and take the floor. for example, star wars battlefront is a great game. forget the star wars side of it, the cross between battlefield and 3rd person makes it awesome. disposable troops take the field, and have minimal health. you have to take strategic points in order to move forward and get the good locations to mow down the enemies numbers. these kinds of games are really enjoyable for me, because they take you anywhere and everywhere to gain the upper hand.

anyway, i agree with you that there are too many people who are so obsessed with series games, that they just cant let them go, and focus on more original games... when will they learn that any fps about a space marine who can mow down more troops than their teammates ISNT REALISTIC!!! make a game that either simulates real war (battlefield 2), or MAKE SOMETHING ELSE!!!

Yes, that never fails to amuse me.

OT: This is the usual Bungie 3-minute c0cktease. In game footage next time please!

The Chief was at the battle of reach, he just wasn't on the planet itself. He may make a brief appearance, but i wouldn't bet on it.

Also, how does the guy who has PAINTED OVER HIS VISOR see? Not that I'm complaining, because it's bad ass.
He is the Daredevil of the Halo universe

I agree with his idea that he has the right to express his opinion here.

I have to disagree with you on the importance of the first Halo to console gaming. The fps controls that we all know and love are here because of Halo. Halo made those controls and they were the most intuitive out there. The story of Halo: CE was also quite satisfactory if you actually played it. The organization of multiplayer and gameplay was also new and extremely fun.

Other than Halo 2, Halo was never really known for having impressive visuals at the time so I don't know where you got that whole "I buy a game because it looks pretty." If that were the case than the PS3 would be winning the console war right now. About its sequels, if you look at Halo 2, you will see, even as someone who does not appreciate multiplayer, that Halo 2 had the most robust online component of its time and helped revolutionize console gamings place in the competitive online world. Halo 3 multiplayer refined it even more and its still being played like crazy 2 and 1/2 years after its release, a testament to the quality of the title. I will admit though that Halo 3 story was awful compared to its brilliant prequels.

Although Halo 3 was the only piece of Halo's story I didn't find great. You show more ignorance here stating that all Halo is, is a green faceless space marine fighting gorillas. The story of Halo is not of its individuals but its universe. A universe that has been crafted through games, books, anime, and comics. A place the average gamer can get lost in. A chance for us to be the hero of our own battle. Master Chief was intentionally faceless because Bungie wanted the player to decide who master chief was to them.

I agree with you that videogames need more games that have strong themes and artfulness to push it as a true medium of expression. But Halo is not detracting from that goal, I assure you.

You strike me as the kind of person who hates anything main stream for the sake of it being main stream. Someone who would hate a band they used to like because now more than 100,000 know about them. Calling yourself an "actual gamer". How pretentious can you get?

Although I will hardly disagree with you about being pretentious (quite a bit, to answer your question) I cannot agree with any notion that the story is at all above 'meh'. Let me explain something; although the entire universe may be engaging, involving, and immersive, does not mean the game is. I must not have made it clear that I was talking about the narrative in the game. As a writer myself, I can assure you that forcing a person to purchase entire sets of variable swag of varying mediums does not make for good writing. That is what we call money whoring, and if you honestly believe it to be little more than that, then you are as gullible as bungie hoped you would be.

Also, I can assure you I am not a person who instantly hates anything that gains popularity. I enjoy many popular video games. In all fairness though, what I will confess is that I am automatically suspicious of anything that is supposed to be the "best ______ ever". You may call this pessimism, but I'm comfortable with that. It keeps my horizons broad and my eyes from becoming overly fixated.

Similar to the Modern Warfare 2 trailer as in with great music but did not impress me. Except this time with unbelievably cheesy dialogue. Obviously I'm not the biggest Halo fan as in I only really liked Halo 2 but I saw some screenshots and heard some information on it and apparently they're using a new engine on it. Hopefully this means less boring. But the best part is that they're adding a needler rifle if I wasn't mistaken and the needler was my favorite weapon from Halo.

*pokes corpse with stick*

And he's quite dead, but good for you trying to be positive!
And then the elite ran away with his blood stained energy sword snickering to himself, escaping a free elite because everyone refused to accept the beheaded Spartan was in fact, deceased.

You do realize that there's an alternative ending to Halo 3? Watch it on YouTube, I won't spoil it for everyone else who hasn't played Halo 3 on the hardest difficulty.
Even in the normal ending, he doesn't die. I hope they leave him like he is, though. It's the perfect way to end his story. Very Arthurian.

I think the biggest thing I noticed is that unlike ODST, the faces don't look that bad.

I had criticized the graphics engine because everything looked great... except faces for ODST, and it looks like they really focused on improving that for this game. They aren't VALVe good, but they're much much better than ODST.
That's not really a graphics engine thing; it's really more of an art department thing. Their models and animation for non-armored humans were just... bad.

Actually, seeing this trailer, I'm amazed at how good the animations are. If this is actually in-engine, then consider me floored. I haven't seen anything on a console that looked that good running in real time.

This thread needs more Vrex, so here I am with a fresh supply.

First up, it's just a teaser so I wasn't expecting epic action scenes and to be honest there isn't really a whole lot going on in the teaser to really warrant much in the way of discussion though a lot to ask in speculation. My guess was they intended to just let us SEE the Spartans as they aren't even given names yet just so we can identify them, presumably they will be major characters in the upcoming story. Given that we see not very much of them I can't judge as to whether I'll like or dislike said Spartans (though the operative word is 'Spartan' and in case you haven't noticed I have some longstanding bitterness with those guys) nor can I judge if they will just be 'generic armor soldier number#12526326537'.
Because the point of a teaser is to 'tease' speculation, not to engage endless assumptions. I mean it seems strange to already be condeming the characters when we have heard maybe, two sentances of dialouge?
Also I'm a little dissapointed by the lack of gameplay footage in the trailer, but we already saw the Reach screenshots including that awesome looking Needler-Rifle so I can get a rough idea of gameplay but for now not much left to think about.
This is evidently going to be the last Halo game made by Bungie so naturally there is a lot of secrecy behind it and this extends to the trailer, all I can do now is just sit and wait. However having not really been disapointed so far, I don't think I will be here.

P.S I don't think the game in the final product will look like Gears of War. If you can remember the starry night trailer for Halo 3 it was pretty much the same grey color scheme but then the final product ended up being vibrant and colorful. I'm guessing this will be the same with Reach.

P.P.S Apparently the Elites are present as enemies in this game, it is good because I'm looking forward to seeing them again. Here's hoping for a few moments with the Arbiter prior to his becoming of an Arbiter.

Not as awesome as I was hoping, but intriguing nonetheless.

Also, can we still not have a Halo thread (even a justified one) without it degenerating into flaming?

This is embarrassing.

I have a feeling I'm really going to like the guy with the machete. Looks alright, I look forward to seeing all the different Spartans do badass stuff, though no GAMEPLAY was shown so I'm not going to get too exited. I always enjoy the campaigns the first time I do them, though admittedly Halo's multiplayer is the main selling point, and personally Halo and TF2 are the only FPS games I've played that didn't go extremely stale after the first week (FPS RPG Hybrids don't count). Though it's been rumored that Reach will have CoD style perks and such, which if that's true it gives me a massive anticipation boner.

You know I'm not much of a Halo fan nor a MC fan, but I know the draw behind the character and game...and the fact that Bungie is planning to make a Halo game without MC...I don't know...

Sounds like they're trying to sabotage their own product...lol

I'm won't hold my breath story-wise, but I must admit that the graphics (in this teaser, anyway) are second-to-none--Bungie must have upgraded their engine.

I've never been a huge Halo fan so correct me if I'm wrong but didnt Reach fall years before the first game? Why do these Spartans look like they have newer gear? Don't say because the graphics are better, thats not a legit reason.

I quite liked what Halo had to offer, but I had my fill with Halo 3, hence why I didn't buy ODST because that's practically the same gameplay-wise. I hope Reach will do something new with the franchise, if not I'll skip that as well.

OT: Looking good. A bit murkier than previous Halo games.
it has to do with the halo universe, in that when the spartans were created, the public was basically told they were invisible, but they were put on suicide missions. so to help the public moral, they never list a spartan as KIA.
