The Covenant had known of the Flood for a very long time, and ONI had learned of the Flood from some source prior to Halo.

Halo Wars' "Halo Timeline" lists ONI declaring Spirit of Fire lost with all hands, obviously a cover-up. In Last Voyage of the Infinite Succor dialog between Covenant characters establishes that the existence of the Flood was common knowledge among the Covenant.

Really the only retcon Halo Wars did was having Elites and Hunters as known Covenant soldiers prior to their discover given in Fall of Reach.
O_O

Thanks for clearing that up.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go slap the friend I go to for all things Halo.

Good point, I guess in their defense it would be boring to have fewer units.

Mostly I'm just sick of people who can't form their own opinions from firsthand experience and who spam hatred onto any topic discussing Halo. Also, people who then create "why the hate" topics and invite said hate-spammers over THERE, as well.

If somebody played Halo and doesn't like it, fine. At least they played it. If somebody played Halo and loved it, also fine. But one really can't know the quality of something without firsthand experience. The opinions of others are only useful up to a certain point.

But yeah, Cole Protocol ruled. I still think The Flood and First Strike were kind of weak with regard to literary quality, but Cole Protocol stacks up quite well against most of the space opera novels I've read. I'm rereading it now just for fun. I really like the original characters.

The game could just be another RTS in disguise. I would rather think that it could be a more squad based game because of the fact that Reach is the location where all the Spartans fought together. Also there could be more Forerunner information in this game.

Why not just have Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3?

Leave it at that, done and dusted, move onto something else, more exctiting and brilliant...

Or, if your a money grabbing corporation, choose this second option, "Milk it."
Let me start my counter arguement with this guy.

What the blind biggoted haters don't realise is that Halo is a world of it's own, and not a world around Master Chief. Halo in a name, is the same as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo and Half Life.

There is a huge world out there, and everyone has a story in it. If Halo 2 hadn't pulled the Arbiter out, and made a story about him discovering the Prophets true result of the Prophets Actions, I would have agreed. Yet it showed us that the world does not just revolve around Master Chief Petty Officer John-117.

The 2 new games, coming out revolving around the Halo World, does not involve the story of Master Chief, however, entirely new characters. There may be a cameo of Master Chief, but the story is not about him.

Halo 3: ODST is the story of a Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, who descends into the ruins of New Mombasa after the Covenant Prophet of Truth's Slipspace jump, a third the way into Halo 2. You follow the story of "The Rookie" who attempts to link up with his squad, who was scattered after the Slipspace Rupture. Whenever the Rookie finds a piece of equipment or something memorable about his team-mates. You will quantam leap into that personnel, and relive one of their most memorable experiences. As you do this, you learn more about the backstory of the Squads lives. Each one has a story to tell, and once you've all regrouped...Well, Bungie haven't told us what happens after that. We only know the Rookies orders, and that Dare (The Female Recon Unit in the Group) Has her own secret Agenda.

Halo: Reach has little information about it. What we know of so far, is that it will take place on Reach, during the Battle of Reach, as the Covenant Glass and Take over. You will presumably play as Spartan 259, a yet un identified Spartan. If they are a 2nd Generation Spartan, or a 3rd Generation Spartan is yet to be revealed. If it's the Former, then it will play similar as to Halo 1, 2 and 3. If it's a Spartan 3, it will play like Halo 3: ODST, with a little Arbiter-esque Halo 2 gameplay. However this is all fan speculation.

Do not try and tell everyone, that Halo is dead and it's just being Milked. When something is being milked, is when only slight improvements are added, and a less than sub-par story is added onto it. Games that fall into that category are the Half Life Episodes, The Tony Hawks games, Sports Games, and perhaps most controversionally, the Resident Evil Series.

I dunno. Another Halo game? In the game's own words: "Overkill".
I guess I will wait to see more of the game. If they can mix it up a bit then it might be worth getting.

So what if it's Halo or not. If it's good it's good, if it isn't, oh well. No reason to hate on a game just because of what came before it. Hell, that'd be like arbitrarily hating Resident Evil 4 just because you didn't like number 1 without even trying it despite the new overall feel.

You never know what those sneaky devs are going to cook up.

Honestly, while ODSt is a huge draw for me, Reach isn't so much. Halo has always been as much about the story for me as it has been about the gameplay. Since, after reading the novels, I know pretty much everything that can happen and go on in Reach, half the equation is already lost for me.
wait for gameplay I felt the same about ODST until the gameplay trailers of course maybe even then you'll feel the same but we wont know until september.

Man all we have is like a 10 second long teaser where absolutely no information is given. Stop getting all excited.

Discussing games is one thing. They JUST announced it and we have absolutely no information about it. How are we supposed to discuss something that we know nothing about?

Well, a lot of people are speculating based on what we know from the books, and some are talking about expectations from the game. A game doesn't have to be finished or have a trailer in order to merit discussion; and if you don't want to talk about the game, then you most certainly do not have to.

After reading the book a few times, yeah, I'm excited. Hopefully you'll get to play as other spartans, or at least fight alongside them. Though they better be able to drive properly...
Still, spearhead of supersoldiers=win.

Well said, exactly my thoughts on the matter. If it were an addittion to the Masterchief saga then it would be milking but given that this is jut an expansion of a bigger universe then there is no real issue. That said while I disagree with Ben Legend I respect his opinion.
