Just to clarify things, I'm neither a halo hater nor a fan.

Hah, I just tried the demo and... The game is a fine "CONSOLE" rts, but not much of a contender to the PC ones, It works alright, but it feels so... Slim.

One thing that bothers me is, It goes against so much of the HALO lore, especially when it comes to the Spartans. I read up on this stuff and well, it takes place 20 years before CE, And john/Master chief only got the energy shield just before CE starts.
The Spartans always worked in squads of about 4, and they never went on solo raids, the Spartans used their brains and tactics more than actual brute force. I could go on...

Also, seriously, the wraights!? Their plasma artillery causes no explosions... And the jackals move in squads of 2... I'll stop now.

By the way, another major disappointment is that in the early trailers that were released, it looked like a dark and gritty halo, then they decided to stay true to the halo style, the wrong style if you ask me.
Don't get me wrong, I don't own halo 3, I borrowed it and It was an ok game but... The halo universe is awesome, but they can't seem to show it, maybe ODST will finally show me the Dark, Gritty side of halo I've always wanted to see.

Do you agree with me? Or am I just thinking to much?

Edit: Another thing on that trailer, they show a whole platoon of Spartans, And that got me exited, I mean, 20+ of those killer cyborgs, I finally got my terminator rts. Then my friend tells me that you're limited to 3... *sigh*

I think it works pretty well, other than the weird units (Flamethrower???)

agreed flamthrower units suck and dont contribute at all to the fight. one time in skirmish i let the enemy build up his forces as strong as he could so i could watch an epic battle. flamethrowers were the first to die

Thanks for making a thread about this - If only you'd used the search button and found there is already a massive thread that has discussed all the points you mentioned to death.

And he/she/it forgot that this is a demo. Just thought I'd point out another fallacy. :)

hum... no. The demo represents the full game, I played some games against the computer on both sides, And that includes all the units except one or 2 unique units, and since the game is shipping soon no major changes can be made, outside of DLC/updates, please think first, talk later.

Well, I saw that thread some week ago, but I didn't just want to discuss the demo, as in what you were asking, and I also wanted to make some points, and that is kinda hard in an existing thread. But I do get your point.

What, So MC is the only one that can use the flamethrowers in halo? And they aren't useless, Use those flashbangs, I dare call them overpowered if used right.

Actually, the demo is last year's build. Or at least that's what I've heard.

Well, I doubt that, if you can find any proof, sure but... Why would they show a buggy version of the game? That's wrong on way to many levels.

I think the only real problem you have with Halo Wars is the fact that it's different from the universe.

There are differences, yes, but they are mild, and don't truly affect anything. If they had made Spartans the basic infantry unit, I'd have been hella pissed, but I didn't see anything that truly sucked. Or sucked at all, for that point.

You heard wrong, this demo is the full game with lots of stuff cut out and the word "demo" added to the main menu and title screen.

The big problem I see with this thread is this--

The game is a fine "CONSOLE" rts, but not much of a contender to the PC ones
If you constantly compare console RTSs to PC ones, you'll never be happy.

It's physically impossible to make a console RTS that is equal to a PC RTS, they are two entirely different systems and they simply don't play the same. That's like trying to make Coke taste equivalent to Red Wine. They're two completely different things, taste and all.

So really, all I've got to say is either learn to enjoy what you get or just never expect to be happy >_>

I had fun with the demo, but it just wouldn't succeed on the PC. It's just missing something. I think to really enjoy HW, you're going to have to be a big fan of Halo and generic RTS games.

Oh well. It isn't anything uber special then, but at least it's still fun.

But still, when you saw that trailer years ago, didn't you think you would get to command more then 3 faceless Spartans?

I don't want them do be a basic infantry unit, that would suck. But you don't have to cripple them to 1 man either, I know several games that pulled of "Elite squads" quite nicely. What I basically want is for them to be put in 4 man teams, Have one of them equipped with a secondary sniper rifle, 1 of them with a secondary Rocket launcher, you know, the 2 barreled one, also missing from the game. They should not dual wield, Not carry chainguns and spartan lasers, have Assault rifles/battle rifles for main arms. They could still operate a vehicle as a team.

ALSO, REMOVE THE SHIELDS! (Yes, I would say that out loud, so caps is justified).

On the difference things, The devs said themselves that they wanted it to feel like halo, and not to say anything stupid but...

*POTENTIAL SPOILER*
From all I know, Harvest got glassed, Yet it doesn't look like that at all in the game. Now that, I dislike.

I never really compared them, But I won't give anything special treatment because it's on a console. It's rts, and I judge it by rts standards.
I finally found the word, the game is "outdated" in a sense.

Well, I will play this game one way or another, my friend will get it for sure so that's covered. The story looks solid, and the cut scenes in the demo had a darker tone.

Now I go to sleep, it's 3am here, I'll respond tomorrow if you bother to continue this discussion... Now that sounded lame, awell, goodnight for now!

I just have to ad, Seriously? Make all units ODSTs? And only equip them with shotguns? They are elite "Helljumpers" and there were definitely not enough of them for command to afford to replace all standard infantry with them. They are elite units, not an upgrade.

I wrote more about the demo in the first thread (first post page 7). But I'll just sum up that it's a disappointment to me. Microsemble said they were making a new RTS built from the ground up to play well on the console. I don't know what I was expecting, but all they did was take the old PC RTS and strip it out mercilessly to play well on the console.

There are other RTS titles on the 360 that did a much better job rectifying the genre with the console without making such drastic sacrifices.

I hated it because you can't queue up units and I really hated the controls, seriously, C&C3 had better controls. Also, it was very grindy, not to the point of Supreme Commander where I actually left and came back 20 minutes later to find I was still building units, but the resource gathering takes way to long.

I only have a few problems with the demo.
1.) Spartan Mk 4 armor didn't have shields or a slot for AI
2.)Wraith tanks suck unless they are heavily upgraded
3.)The rate supplies are collected is too slow in its current form. Seriously I need to have three slots and upgrade them to be able to keep up with the demand I put on it.
4.)Commander special abilities for the UNSC work much better than Covie hero units(as far as regret goes anyways).
Other than that I didn't have a problem with controls or overall gameplay.

Capture the second outpost, and build more landing pads/Warehouses. I didn't really have a problem with it.
Although the AI kinda blew... It's on normal and he still won't capture that resource building, nor use the mac effectively, at all.
