Oh, & personally, till I saw this thread I didnt actually pay any attention to the fact Greedo missed. Stupid as it is, doesnt really make much of a difference to the film.
It makes a difference. When Han shoots second he's defending himself. Pretty standard character. When he shoots first he's kinda ruthless, very wily and very prescient. When no one reacts to a murder you learn more about Mos Eisley and the whole SW setting.

Agree totally on Lucas, I was through with him after that last horrible trilogy. Only a Sith thinks in absolutes? Bravo. So the whole struggle between good and evil becomes a struggle between two socioeconomic entities, each of which is equaly valid and can only be evaluated within its own value system?

I won't say he doesn't have the right to change his movie if he so desires. I'll only say he is an idiot to do so.

I personally think that Day was great. A few signs of crapiness the next 20km, but ignoring the obvious plot holes I found it enjoyable and the best and most creative gore around. No doubt that the original Dawn and Night are the greatest two in the series. The remake of Dawn was just plain awful. Instead of enjoying the movie I sat there picking out everything wrong with it... hmm, this me a great next review (strokes mighty chin hairs). Hopefully Dairy can save the otherwise dead series (see the pun).

Star Wars was based around the old cowboy films.

Aside from the awful re-construction, Han's character arc originally has him transfer to Black Hat (A New Hope) to White Hat (Return).

Now, if he didn't shoot first, he goes White, Black, Grey; because he never reaches White again. Therefore his redemption is gone, therefore his character is destroyed.

Same principle for when Vader walks onto the ship at the beginning of 'A New Hope', now that you've seen him as a snotty kid, he's just not as scary. Because Clone Wars leaves him as a Grey Hat.

If he was really going to remake the films, perhaps he should have James Earl Jones alter his voice when the respirator speeds up or many other trivialities that he missed second time around but the breaking the back of the Hero's Journey is like a Doctor breaking the Hippocratic Oath. You just don't do it.

(Ignoring the piles of shit that are midichlorians, 'What, incest makes you stronger in the Force?')

By the way, Mary Shelley called. She's decided to rewrite Frankenstein with a happy ending where the villagers accepts him. All the old copies of Frankenstein are to be removed from stock.

Oh and you'll LOVE Frankie's new accent.

i hope i'm not the only person who realizes the HUGE hypocricy in Obi-Wan saying "Only a Sith deals in absolute". if ONLY a Sith deals in absolute, then him saying that statement makes him a Sith. Because he used an absolute statement as a fact.

OMG WHO SHOT FIRST! THE WORLD IS GOING TO END! AHHHHH!

It's Star Wars. It's really good, but I really don't care who shot first.

One word: midichlorians.
Very valid point. That is the point when the magic stopped for me. You cannot explain the Force, dagnammit!
Seconded. It was nice when the Force was magic and Jedi power levels weren't so clear-cut. Or over 9000...

I sometimes feel that Star Wars fans are the whinest type of fanboy, possibly even more so than MMO fanboys.

"Whaa whaa, release the UNTOUCHED, UNEDITED Theatrical cut on DVD!"- Lucas does. Fanboys whine that they are in fact, untouched JUST LIKE THEY WANTED.

Frick, if I'm not mistaken, didn't those DVD's also have the modern restored version on them too? So that the geeks could do rants and raves via comparison between the two cuts on one disc?

BTW, Han has not gone back to shooting first in the current version, they had it so that he and Greedo shoot at the same exact time and Han actually artfully dodges the blast like he knew it was coming instead of Greeo just missing like a fool. Better than Greedo shooting first by leaps and bounds, but the original scenario is of course, still the best.

This isn't really all that accurate. Many fans of Star Wars did not like the new crap, and when Lucas announced that he would never release the original copies of the film on DVD, many fans were put out by this. We asked for the THX restored (but no extra scenes added) copies of the films we fell in love with and he refused? Why?

Well, that came out later when Lucas finally did release the originals. And they weren't restored original copies, they were rips from Laserdiscs. Why? LUCAS TAPED OVER THE ORIGINAL MASTERS. That's not "whining because we got exactly what we wanted". That is accurately informing Lucas that he's destroyed the things that made him.

Yes, the crappy new version comes with the older good version. Why is that? Because the good version cannot be allowed to outsell the new one. Lucas would have to admit that he has *no idea* what his fans really like. That's not something we whine about. That's something we poke fun at him for.
