My initial stance was that I thought the WiiMote was a mistake, a statement which I still stand by (I have to wonder exactly how many broken televisions, windows and other household items the WiiMote is responsible for). I went on to express my distaste for the Wii in general. A personal prefernce, and nothing I've seen from it's consumers or developers has yet to convince me otherwise.
Not the 70 million sold, huh?
Not the fact that it's the best selling console?
Yeah. What a mistake.
But at least you admitted it's a
personal preference.
Motion Controls are unnessecary and tend to have control issues. Again, skip the 3D and motion controls, let's get the Neural Interface Unit going. Peripheial seem to appeal to a lot of people, but I'll just keep my money, thank you.
'Necessity' has nothing to do with it. We're talking about a luxury item.
Secondly, you just admit that these controls appeal to a lot of people, but you want to
ditch them?
I'm glad you're not in charge of these companies.
And thirdly, what control issues? I've played the Wii a bunch of times, and never had control issues. The games play fine. And if the controls
are poor, that's the same as bad controls in a 'normal' game: Developer's fault.
WiiSports games are games in the way that Curling is a sport. Somebody took the time and effort to develop it, people play it, there's a fanbase for it. Call it a "Niche Game" if you will. They vary pretty widely from what was commonly accepted as a videogame for a number of years. Sports sims confuse me, honestly. You can sit around on your couch and pretend to play tennis. Or you can go get a few mates and go play tennis. Comparing that to telling FPS players to go buy a real gun or join the military and shoot people is outlandish and irresponsible.
Hey did you see that? It was my point. You missed it.
The whole idea of games is to do things you normally couldn't, or that would require a greater deal of commitment that people don't have the time/money/ability for. I can't play real tennis to save my life, but I can play Wii tennis like a pro. And it's more
fun. I do play bass guitar, but guitar hero is a completely different kind of 'fun'.
The FPS analogy isn't to be taken literally. It's an example, using the exact same logic you have for not playing 'tennis games'. To reword one of your own sentences: "You can sit around on your couch and pretend to be in the military. Or you can go and join the military." See? Same logic. Games are about escapism and doing awesome stuff that you normally couldn't do. Like run around a battlefield, slay a dragon, and play tennis. I can't play tennis. I've tried, I suck at it. I can play the game, though! And then it's more fun.
