Anytime a game starts with a boss or a battle seems like a dick move to me. The hardest first boss was probably... Choas0 from Sonic Adventure 1. I played it a long time ago and I had to fight to get acquainted with the games wonky controls as well as fighting a boss at the same time.
Chaos0 wasn't too bad, so long as you had played a platformer before. If it was your first ever game yes it's a struggle, but he's not tough.

The first boss of the Game Gear Sonic 2 though, all you had to do was bounce over these bouncings balls, but they were so quick, the pattern of the ball was picked from random from three different bounce types, and the screen was too small for anyone to see the pattern in time. Harder than hard...

This strange fairy woman in a game i can't remember. She kept firering bubbles at me and they electocuted me each time they popped. Eventually i slammed the game down and gave up.

Keep in mind i was only 4yrs old.

Electric Bubbles... Thats like in the realm's of Spongebob physics.
No it was not Spoongebob in case anyone else thinks this. I would prefer to be slowly tortured then endure a game that has HIM featured. I hate that cartoon with a passion.
It was something along the lines of Fairy's Learning CD. Do not ask what it was about because i can't really remember. Not long after playing the game i fell off a bike, cracked my head off a concrete garden border and my memory was damaged. Only certain items remain from before i was 5yrs old.

That tosser in Ninja Gaiden.
Master Murai. You are correct sir. Even after I completed it and went for another play through, I had to bring my A game to struggle past him.

Bonehead from Borderlands gets my vote. It's not until that point they incidentally hint that you should run from higher level targets. Ofcourse I managed to mail his ass, but not without (ab)using Second Wind two times in a row by oneshotting one of his cronies trying to 'help' him, and finally applying enough sniper rounds to his forehead for him to stop breathing.

Felt genuinly hard given that I'd been facerolling effectively everything up to that point.

I'm going to echo Murai, in Ninja Gaiden, as one of the biggest wakeup call bosses around.

Ironically, when you fight him again as the game's final boss, he's a bit of a pussy, even in Ninja Gaiden Black, where you can't just abuse the Flying Swallow Dive to end him, he's easily thumped

Pretty much my thoughts exactly on this guy. Though I get some weird sense of fun from that fight and Alma's first fight.

Also though not as bad as Murai, Dullahn from Castlevania: Portrait of ruin, he had some plain mean attacks and he is a tad confusing the first time you fight him.

It'd have to be brock in yellow version for the short time that I hadn't figured out that I had to go get a mankey and level it up to defeat him

The Reaper is piss-easy, he is certainly not more difficult than normal bosses in other games.

OT: Iron Head from Assault on Dark Athena was a *****, since I sucked at the melee combat. However, I managed to exploit some glitches.

Yeah, he was a good wake-up call. I managed to beat him, but he was a tough S.O.B.

I'd have to go with the Colossus of Rhodes on Titan in GoW II.

One punch is easily half your health bar.
Well, he's only difficult if you're playing the harder difficulties. His attack patterns and the strategy to beat him is very simple. Most bosses are difficult if you're playing on the hardest difficulty.

I want that game so badly, is it as hard as everyone says?
yes, it is, but I still killed the first boss after around 10 tries

And I'd say that the hardest boss is the boss from the first level of Ikaruga

I don't remember if he's a boss or anywhere near being the first, but Lubu from Dynasty Warriors... 4? he is a pain in the arse... I can't even gang up on him effectively... Mind you I was quite happy stealing someone's pony and running around like an idiot that last time I played that game...

Reading other people's responses makes me realise I really need to catch up on this whole game playing malarkey...

The first boss in Onimusha 2. Can't remember his name; he was a huge man-scorpion hybrid who returned for a rematch twice later on, neither of which was remotely hard compared to the first time.

The Moldorm in Link's Awakening, far harder than any other boss in the game, even the Eagle from Level 7.
