Ahhh crap .... I know I am going to get flamed for this but..

Is it not fair to say that the Nolan films have been successful in spite of (or more likely because of) their divergence from the source material? I view them as "The real stories that inspired the comic book legends" ... a little less over the top, a little less black and white, more dirty and gritty, more rooted in reality ..... wait let me take that last one back and go with ?less pantomimed? instead

That said my very first thought when I read the first page was ?the girl from Hard Candy? ? who of course is Ellen Page

They have in a way, yes. I mean while the "Grim and Gritty" trend can get a bit irritating, as every single bloody hero is going through the "Dark side" phase (with Raimi doing a piss poor job of putting Spiderman through one, and apparently Superman ready to go through one in the next film) and the fact that his choice of making everything more realistic in a sense cuts out half of the villains from ever being a possibility, but because of that, we got one of the best performances in recent years, Ledger as the Joker.

Quinn is a very interesting and twisted character, and I do agree at this point that maybe she should be played as an unknown, though I've never heard of Ellen page actually, I'll check her out.

And I'm still not really sure which mythos I prefer at this point, Tim Burton's or Chris Nolan's.

Very true ....

I have to admit the first Burton movie was good ... specifically Micheal Keaton. It was such a surprise when he was anounced as lead. And even more surprising when he captured the character so well (and the only actor to do so thus far). It was easy to believe that he was truly a troubled person, a sociopath and a sane person fighting for control. It made the cartoony-ness of the movie seem less important. I like Bale, but I do not get the "conflicted" feel. He gives us more of an angry man who puts on a "normal" suit for social occasions. Maybe that is more true, maybe he isn't trying to do enough good that he can become a "real boy." Maybe he is just an angry man on a mission keeping up appearances.

Perhaps I should not be surprised by Keaton, if the guy from "The Bachelor Party" can hold our attention for an hour and a half alone on a deserted island then "Mr Mom" can be a believeable super hero.

Helena Bonham Carter?

Just a thought, I reckon she'd be good. And she'd look the part too, in my opinion.
True. She's one of the best "creepy" actresses out there.

I'd give it a go. I have good legs, a good physcotic persona. I am a man though so that probably messes things up.

Now a lot of people (including myself) really would love the idea of Harley Quinn being in the next Batman. The question is, who do you think could really play the role of Harley Quinn? Do you think an unknown would need to be picked up for the part?
Harley Quinn is my favourite Batman character. I usually love unknowns in movies because I won't imagine them in previous roles, (I don't usually do that with all actors) but the girl in the new Alice movie made me question unknowns.
I've already had this conversation before several times so my personally nomination for H/Q would be:
Sarah Michelle Gellar

or Clair Danes

I don't know who, but, I don't think they're going to have her in the movie. How can you have Harley Quinn without the Joker? Since Heath Ledger is dead, but still made such an impression on people, I don't think many would be happy with a new joker, in he sequel.

Also, I don't think it's possible for Harley Quinn to have a revenge-ish storyline in the movie, because she's not the sharpest knife of them all, and trying to make her that, will only make it seem out of character for her. I think we'll have to wait for a few years before we see her.

juliette goglia.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1490275/

she played a killer in csi at 11 years old. and she was amazing. i don't think a cartoon villain at 15 would be a stretch.

It may be irrelevant unless they can find someone to replace Ledger. Maybe they'll tie some strings to the corpse and waltz it around. Whatever they do I want to see my Johnny Depp playing the riddler.

A bit behind the times here but was playing Arkham Asylum the other day and Sherri Moon-Zombie was the actress that popped into my head...loved her in House of a 1000 Corpses.

If she can make teenage boys afraid of back woods beauties, I'm almost positive she could make us nerds never want to go to ComicCon again... XD

Hmm, most are pretty good.

My original actress for Harley would have been Brittany Murphy (R.I.P), but for obvious reasons she won't be showing up.

My second choice was Emile De Raven. She just has that look and I know she can play a villianess from her time on Roswell.

Third was Kristen Bell, because she has that face and build for it and I like her as an actress. She played a good villianess too on Heroes.

Four, Sarah Michelle Gellar. She knows how to be a bad ass and kick ass. She has the know how on seeming like a complete bish...which is a good thing in this case (acting wise).

Hmm, after that there aren't many I can see playing the role.

In the Dark Knight they gave the Joker a clean slate. They built a new, creepier version. If they do do a Harley, I say cut out the pshychiatrist bit. Most forget that she was one because of her submissive personality in the cartoons. She had fire in her, which I would still love to see.

I think for the TDK version of Harley, they will ahve to go away from the comics and so like they had with the Joker. This Harley would be a bit more real and I could never see a TDK Joker with teh comic and cartoon Harley.

If they do recast Joker I think they'll go with someone a lot like Ledger (R.I.P) to make it not so different. He was brilliant in the part and it'll be hard to see someone else playing the Joker, but not unheard of.
