They can sometimes... I remember after playing the demo for Saint's Row 1, I went straight into town to buy the full game. On the other side of things, playing the demo of Bulletstorm made me decide to wait until it turns up in a steam sale and that I don't intend to pay anymore than about £10 for it.

Without the demo, I'd have never purchased Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, the second best game off all times (imho). And they actually put quite some effort into that demo, and altered a few things, rather then just copy pasting the first level.

So yes, demos rule.

Just Cause 2, and Red faction: Guerilla. Probably because they both have so unique gameplay elements.

Only if it were very bad or very good. The game developers (most of the time) put the most fun part/best part of a game in the demo to make it look better. I only get demos for games that I plan on buying. The demo is just to hold me over until the game is released.

Indeed they do. I rarely purchase a game I haven't played the demo of.

1. Cryis 2.I tried the Demo and when I found out it was laggy and glitchy I decided I would give It a miss for a few months.

2.Bulletstorm 2. 1st time I played It I found It fun.....but that was It just fun nothing more.

Demos are great insights into games. if the demo is bad you can assume the game is going to be poor for at least a while until they fix all the issues. I just wish COD had a freaking demo :(

Oh yes. Demos do help. I played the demo for Mirror's edge and thought it was great... Then I got the full game and learned that it was shit.

Sometimes. But I have to say the crysis 2 demo has caused me to quetion if there is any point to getting the game after how bad it was. Though I found BulletStorm's demo ridiculously fun.

There are some games that I would buy without even thinking of trying first. Franchises that I'm already a part of, like any Blizzard game, Valve game or C&C game, besides the last one, that I don't even want to look at. For others I have to try them first. See how they would run, if I would like them, thats how I bought Supreme Commander 2. Tried the demo, liked it, bought it. Also Beat Hazard - a great game. Amnesia, wouldn't have touched with a stick if it weren't for the demo. I dislike horror games, especially the new breed, but this game made me feel really scared and I wanted to have that feeling evoked at one point or another. Wouldn't have discovered it if it weren't for the demo.

On the side note some demos are awesome :). And some games deserve to be killed with fire for not having a demo. Like, say, Bulletstorm.

In conclusion: demos are very important.

Yes, but it's unlikely to have a huge influence. Like, I'm probably never going to hate a game, try a demo, and decide I must have it. But it can impact whether it's a buy, a rent, a day 1 buy, etc. And sometimes it can nudge me over the line to not buy a game at all.

I get chastised for the last one, because it's evidently ridiculous to base your opinions off a demo because they have nothing to do with the game or something.

Demos are always useful.
Take Bulletstorm for example. Ok, I was going to get it regardless but still the demo showed me what to expect and how the controls worked...and how over the top it was going to be with the blood and curse words. Can't wait to find all the skillshots! >:)

Demos are important to me. They give you a feel for the game's mechanics and feel in a way that viewing trailers, videos and screenshots can't.

Yeah. I don't think I would have bought Overlord if not for the demo. The demo for Recettear made me interested in it, as well as the one for Audiosurf. I can't remember any other demos that affected my choice.

In all honesty today will be the first time in years I have actually played a demo (that demo being Dragon Age II). I just don't have enough money to buy games I don't already know I am buying years before release.

I use the demo to find out if i want the game, normaly its already a game im considering and the demo is just to push me over the line if i want it or not. sometimes i download random stuff just because it looks good and if it is well then theres another game i wanna buy and if not just a few buttons away and its gone

Demos have saved me hundreds of dollars that would have been wasted on terrible games. I would have never bought BioShock if it weren't for the demo. Yes, demos have affected my choice.

Yes,
Demo of Hydrophobia put me off buying the game

Demo of Bulletstorm put me off that one too

Demo of Enslaved actually sold me on the game and made me wish I had bought it earlier

Sure. Some games I probably wouldn't have even heard about if there was no demo: like the smaller DL titles.
They're even good for big budget titles.
I was planning on renting Just Cause 2, but after trying the demo, I knew I was going to buy it. Then they offered the pre-order dlc and I even pre-ordered it.
And I never pre-order anything.
