Has anyone else noticed the drop in standard of the Escapist forums?

That's weird, because I've actually noticed a lot of "discuss racism/homophobia" threads lately.

I'd say that means we're getting a bit more mature about these subjects. Stop me if I'm wrong.

These forums are some of the best regulated that I've seen. The mods may not catch everything, but they get what's important.

The only issue I have is that repeat threads come up quite often, and mainly from new readers - there does need to be a posting cap before you can create your own thread.
I barely post on the forums but i'd still agree on this point, seems like a good measure.

Your first topic about racism, I have never seen. Probably because anyone spouting that kind of offending material gets a swift kick in the pants by the mods.

Your second topic depends very much on quality of posts[footnote]I-rony! Virgil gave me in to trouble earlier today about having garbage posts! I have learned my lesson though :)[/footnote], trolling can be well hidden, or blatantly obvious. But are always dealt with when they arise.

3. Homophobia.
As with racism, this is an illegal practice in many countries, yet on these forums it would seem to be thriving. Surely there's no need to even demonstrate homophobia with examples, I'm sure we all know it when we see it.
What? Are you looking at the right internet?
The Escapist is the most accepting site I have ever seen for men and women of different sexual orientations.

Just so you know we are actually listening to everything you have to say on the topic. Not in a 1984 style, but we're taking notes on how the community feels about certain things....

Oh boy, is it time for the forums to be dying, again? My favorite time of the year.

I'll be honest with you. It's a common stereotype that the French are cowards and that Americans are fat.

It's also a stereotype that the British are either sat around all day sipping tea or are Cockney chimley sweeps that say "Guv'ner" with every alternate word.

Doesn't mean they are true and that people actually believe them.

Also, stop being an elitist Oldbie. Just cause new people are coming to the site who don't know the amusing story of how Fubar or someone was accidentally banned for the day, doesn't mean it's going downhill.

The only real problem I have with the forums and the comments is that anything that mentions Sony or Apple, for good or ill, seems to attract the Microsoft Defence Force.

Not calling any newbies out, but as a forum gets more mainstream and popular, this is expected to happen.

Is it just me or does it always seem to happen around this time of year?

All I've really noticed is the sudden increase in "Animu is better than everything else cuz animu is better than everything else" topics. But as with most other people, I stay away from R+P unless the little sidebar-thingy of popular threads leads me there accidentally.

EDIT: Oh yeah and there's the fact I get slapped with probations a lot for losing my temper at someone who says things that don't deserve intelligent responses. So I'm probably part of the problem. Meh, I've been on the interwebby for years and ran out of patience for certain things. If one of Fred Phelps's children started a gay marriage topic on here, I'd probably be banned by page 2.

Usually about twice a year. Usually one of them is around this time of year.

Hell, that 'How do you like your eggs?' thread was the most fun I'd had on here in ages!
You should get out more. EDIT: Oh wait, 'on here'. Sorry, I should read better. Alright, moving on.

OT: Nope, I haven't. There seem to be quite a lot of new users though, who have not yet been enlightend to the wonders of capitalization etc, but I wouldn't call it a drop in standard, because then I'd be an elitist dickhead.

Yeah, but if you're a white American who dares state that he has conservative views of any degree, then you should probably run for your life.
And right after I made that edit to my post, too. Just imagine a large anime vein bulging on my head right now as I attempt not to crack wise.

Most people I see who post the things you listed tend to get banned or suspended pretty quickly.
