I will agree with that. In a lot of cases, like Billy Madison, Anger Management, Happy Gilmore, Little Nicky, Mr. Deeds, Chuck and Larry, and Big Daddy all have some kind of buffoon that starts out as him being an idiot and then after some pathetic character development in the film he comes out a reformed, well-meaning idiot.
There are some films where he isn't that way. Spanglish is good. Wedding Singer made me laugh because it actually had some clever parts in it.
I miss his Saturday Night Live days when he acted alongside Chris Farley, Chris Rock, Phil Hartman (poor guy), Dennis Miller, Kevin Nealon, David Spade (when he was funny), and Rob Schneider (ditto). Those were the days.
