PC was the only area where they had a chance to beat CoD, and with this not being on steam and you NEED to use origin is going to scare a lot of people away(me included)so yeah, they have fucked themselves pretty bad.

I don't think it'll affect their day one sales. Most people that were already set on buying BF3 will buy it, regardless. I do think it'll affect their long term sales since a lot of people, myself included, buy games on impulse while browsing Steam and have no reason to go to Origin.

Or are games like movies now, where success or failure is measured by the opening weekend box office?

Hands up all those that have never eeeever had an issue with an EA game or service?

I see no hands..

EA is almost notorious for fucking things up.

While, as some said above, it only takes a matter of seconds to install, some of us reason that it's only a matter of time before it cocks up and goes haywire.

As i've said time and again, I won't use steam because I like to be in control of my games and how they work. So the chances of me using Origin are someone between slim and i'd rather lick shirley crabtree's armpits.

I see this every once and a while and it confuses me. Steam gives you the ability to play offline. Hell, it gives you the ability to burn an infinite number of copies of your game w/ the CD key if you want physical copies instead. I figure I have the same control now as I did with the 100+ CDs I had clogging up my bookshelf. I just have an empty bookshelf now. *shrugs*

Yup, having to download another lightweight client that takes me 5 seconds to download and 3 minutes to install is a real deal breaker for me.

I've had Origin from day one and it's not pissed me off at all. Having both Steam and Origin doesn't make your computer slap on the ol' My chemical romance and start cutting it's own power cables with a razor blade you know.
Thank you for this voice of reason.

Look guys, I'm not going to really defend Origin, but let's be frank here and ask yourself this:

How much is this going to affect my gaming experience?

The clear answer? Barely anything or plain nothing. Users here have already said it doesn't overly tax your computer, you can just turn Origin off after you stopped playing and not have it launch after booting your computer, and it's not like you're forced to buy BF3 from Origin either.

The only way Origin might really affect your gameplay experience is if they're going down the Diablo 3 route and not make an offline mode. This won't matter much for BF3 of course, because honestly it is a multiplayer game, but if ME3 is going to use Origin then yes it'll matter.

But as it is now, people are crying out over nothing, making mountains out of molehills.
I dont know.. People should be whining about Punkbuster being in Battlefield 3. Not, not being able to get it on steam. SERIOUSLY:

Punkbuster does this.

-Makes you waste 20 seconds every time you login

-Has a bug making the game unplayable online for many people across the globe

-Kicks off people who didnt update correctly. Does not give info on how to update correctly. (Its a 2 in one issue)

-IS FRIKKIN CRAP. I swear, most hackers I saw had to be banned manually from the server. Punkbuster did nothing, NOTHIN.

Whine about the return of Punkbuster people. Its at least an enemy we might still prevent from comming back next battlefield.

I'll rephrase, I didn't put that across very well.

I like to mod my games and I make a lot of mods for the like of DA, DA2, Witcher, Oblivion and the Fallout games.

I need to be able to alter files with no issues whatsoever.

Sometimes Steam has issues with certain ways a game is modded which is absolutely no use to me.

I know if I install the game myself with no 3rd party I have total control and the only issues i'll have are those that come from either the game itself or my own fuck ups.

Ah, well, that makes more sense now, heh. I don't typically touch the mod scene so I don't need to worry about it. However, I can see using an add-on free game would be far less hassle in the long run.

I used to play COD only, but got BF2 a couple of days ago. To be honest, I don't think it can match up against CoD.

The most anoying thing was that a player with a higher lvl had items to balance it in their favor( Snipe x12 mainly, or higher armor) that was th worst.

It's good also but, not too many online modes, classes, weapons. And maps WAY to big for the game except the squad matches.
compared to CoD's let?s give the winning team a helicopter? Also what where you playing it on wait im wasting my time here you only like the squad deathmatch.

They should just focus on showing us it's great, rather than trying to compete and compare with a game it hasn't a hope of outselling (at least on console).

It's not a dealbreaker for me but I honestly hate EA even more for it. I don't like the idea of HAVING to use Origin when I shouldn't need to. The EA login system they've used for years now has been fine.

It annoys me most because I love the Battlefield series and I hate seeing EA using it as a pawn. They're using it as a pawn to compete with CoD (Like they did with the new Medal of Honor, that they swept under the carpet quietly after it flopped) and now they're using to to try compete with Steam. I highly doubt that DICE has a say in the matter.

I hate it most because EA are treating it as a pawn to compete with, instead of treating it like a game and IP that they want to succeed.

Yes, I'd not be willing to change services to origin just to play the game. I really hope this doesn't become a fad, making us choose one game service or another. I'd much rather stick with Steam.
Why, I ask? They are both on the same console. That's like saying, I'd much rather buy my game at Walmart. I'd hate to have to go to Best Buy to get a game. Wtf? It's not even like you have to drive anywhere.

OT: Here's the bottomline, people: BF3 looks gorgeous and is implementing some new and fresh gameplay mechanics that CoD never even thought of. For one, they are going to make it much harder for people to bunny hop around and quick-scope.

And I HATE having to use steam for certain other games like CoD and FEAR, but that's the direction other game companies go in. It would be nice if I could sell these games if I get bored of them or simply don't like them, but they are tied exclusively to my steam account. Anyway, my point is don't hate EA for doing what its competition is also doing.

Origin will out of some people but not much

also remember there are other platforms.

while it probably wont sell as well as MW3 do you really think its gonna fail?
