It has been a while since the "jasper" chipset xbox 360 came out, and i have heard nothing about RROD happening on it. I mean i know sony and pc fanboys will throw insults galore, but i'm really happy. anyone else share my joy? or have you seen the beloved jasper bite the big one?

After my Red Ring (not of death, so I had to pay $100 to get it fixed) I've barely turned my 360 on, so I don't really care at this point.

I have never actually had the RRoD, and i have a launch 360. I am not sure if it is still happening though.

This is a bit of a slap in the face, since mine RRoD'd less than two days ago.

*sigh* I guess I'll have to focus on my studies or something now.

I hope you're right, though. Maybe my replacement will be better.

My friend bought an Xbox360 Elite a couple o fmonths ago.
It's already RRoDing.
And here I thought Microsoft fixed the problem with RRoD on the Elites.

I won't flame people with the Red Rig of Death stuff, but i will say this.

The failure rate of the 360 is (or hopefully was) absolutely appalling, and more so when you put into account of all the people willing to bend over for Microsoft to have their console break down multiple times.

I hope whatever Microsoft does fixes the RRoD, but nothing will ever erase that huge piece of turd hardwareing that they did with the whole RRoD fiasco.

But like I said, hopefully they can atleast pretend it never happened by trying to erase it.

I've only had one RRoD, but from what I'm hearing Microsoft is starting to completely replace RRoD'd consoles rather than just repairing them, which makes me think they've fixed the problem in the newer consoles.

A friend of mine got RROD last week and I'm pretty sure his latest 360 was supposedly 'fixed.' I guess its still there, just not as frequent as before. My friend, I should point out, goes through electronics like clothes as if there's a way to break it, he'll do it. His PS3 and his roommates Wii both died somehow.

My original 360 got the RRoD. It was out of warranty so i went out and bought a new arcade system with the Jasper. So far, so good. btw, the models with the Jasper chips are WAY quieter than the release models.

my PS3 is still quieter than both. =p

Aren't the Jaspers using a smaller die size? If that's the case then it SHOULD fix the inherent problem that was causing the RROD i.e that the GPU chipset was overheating melting the solder contact points and then causing the RROD issue. A smaller die means less heat and if you have less heat you have a lesser chance of the solder being melted and the unit dying.

To be honest the fact that the original XBoxes made it out of the door with such a massive flaw is insane but the fact it took MS the best part of two years to come up with a solution that didn't just involve repairing or replacing busted consoles beggars belief. It's like MS management decided they already had far to much cash and just wanted to find a way to piss it down the drain.

I wouldn't really call is "bending over" for microsoft considering they replace it for free within like... 6 days.

I have been an avid Playstation gamer since PS1. Then went on to own a PS2 and about 12 months ago I spent four grand on a custom pc. Between my PS2 and pc I bought a 360. At eight hundred New Zealand dollars it was alot, and I kind of regret it. Only because of the two years I've had it, it has worked for maybe eight months. Now I'm not bashing my 360 or any fanboys. I personally think it's a good console, I just wish the sodding thing would work when I want to play games on it. As for the jasper thing I hope so, I am about to send mine away again. And you know what they say, fourth time lucky.
