Why is it that every time you mention any about poeple bieng racist to white people some one has to try and justify it with the "Generation of slavery" story, its bull shit, its the past, I didnt do that, my ancestors didnt even do that (I'm from a poor mining family) but becuase I was born white it gives black people the right to be racist towards me???
The history is relevant not because it happened, but because it has effects that are still around today. Ethnic minorities don't have a "right" to be racist (nobody should be racist), but it's less hurtful for someone to be racist towards a privileged and respected race (such as white people) than a marginalised race (choose any ethnic minority in a Western country).
No it isnt, its equally as harmfull becuase its racist, Calling me a cracker does just as much harm to me as a black guy being called a ******, I get greatly offeneded by it becuase they are making fun of me simply becuase I was born to the wrong race, who says were a privaleged and respected race?? its privlage and respect as got nothing to do with race, Being born white doesnt automatically give you the respect card or the privalaged, neither does being born black give you the opposite, you have to earn privalages, you have to earn respect, I'm white and I live and have done for the last 18 years in a small two bedroomed house with seven people, if thats privalaged then I want to know what underprivalaged is.

If you have to earn privileges, why are some kids raised in rich families with a mansion, a swimming pool and a holiday house and others have to share a small two bedroomed house with seven people? Some people are lucky enough to be born into privilege and some aren't. From there you have the opportunity to earn more privileges for yourself (or lose the ones you start with), but it takes a lot of hard work and good luck to earn the millions of dollars to go from the small two-bedroom house to the mansion. Meanwhile, a kid who started life as a millionaire and worked that hard could end up a billionaire. It's not all about money, either: it's easier to educate yourself if you're lucky enough to go to a good school.

It sounds like you have a bit of a tough situation, but it's not about how any individual lives, it's about how you're perceived. The average level of income, assets, education and so on for white people is significantly higher than for nearly any other ethnic group except the Japanese, so any poor white people would not feel as though their poverty is linked to their race.

It's about perceptions, not reality. It's the respect you get, not the respect you should get.

They both insulted each others with "racial slurs" meaning they were both racist. Just because you have a different skin colour other than white doesn't mean you're automatically not racist whenever you say something like "White trash". Racism works both ways, not just one.

Damn! I thought this thread was going to be about the Macs and/or consoles suddenly losing ground to the PC. Sorry, I got nothing to say.

What bugs me is it's going the other way now. In the UK (not sure if it's in effect yet btw) there's a 'positive discrimination' act coming into effect. If there's a job position and you have 3 people with identical qualifications and are equally experienced for it, but ones a white guy, ones a black guy, and ones a woman (any race), legally the employer has to employ the woman or the black guy. It's all about a survey that showed statistically more white guys are in work than any other ethnic group/gender, so this is to try equalize that somewhat.

Of course, it leads to two things. Legally a white male is a second class citizen in terms of employment (Only employ them if there's no viable alternative) and it's also going to change the way people think about a woman or minority with a good job. Rather than thinking that they're where they are because they're good, your mind is going to start to think 'they only got that job because they're black/asian/female'.

I don't mind PC stuff when it's about ending discrimination, but when it starts to go the other way, I have problems with that.

My sentiments exactly. The problem we have now is that PC has gone way to far regarding racism, almost to the point where i'm always second guessing what i say to a couple of my mates who are black. I know that sounds a little bit of a weak whine, but it weakeness the friendship as a result. I generally prefer just gibbering away in conversation, but having to second guess myself i usually find it easier to just keep quiet lol.

I didn't have this problem about 6 or 7 years ago.

Regarding Jade Goody i find it hilarious how magazines and newspapers that spent years slagging her off because of the utter fail she was, suddenly became a national treasure as a result of cancer. Fucks sake they allowed that bloke of hers a night off his curfew to get married, and he's probably the only person they've done that for. And i know that she only did the whole cancer death publicity thing so her kids would get shit loads of money as a result, but did she not think (well she didn't think much anyway) that her entire agonising struggle with cancer will now be available for her kids to watch later on. Not being funny but thats kind of a good point about a loved one dying when you're young. You don't really remember the suffering, but they've got it all on tape.

How'd i end up rambling about fucking Jade Goody? Yeah politcal correctness has gone way to far, and is now only creating racists simply because as a result, liberties are being taken away.

Becuase some kids are lucky to be born to the guy/gal who earned his/her privalages, but that not judged by what race you are, I'm sure the kids of Calvin Broadus will be born to a nice Mansion, swimming pool, holiday homes and fame becuase the guy earned all those privalages so his children will benefit from his success, People like me (and from what I'm gussing) you werent lucky enough but thats got nothing to do with our race, just we got dealt the shit hand in life.

Yes I understand that white people probably have better results, in statistics but I dont judge people as a group I judge people as indivisuals, and just becuase one race shows better statistics still doesnt mean they shouldnt get offended when some one throws a racial slur.

Well, that's a good view to have. I can't fault you for it really, I just think some other people deserve to be cut a break. Basically we agree.

For the record I'm one of the lucky ones. I haven't inherited money or anything but I've had all the advantages anyone could hope for growing up. I didn't earn that, I was just fortunate. I guess I regret that a lot of other people aren't as fortunate.

We'll I'm glad we've found some common ground, feeling pity for those who are less fortunate is only natural, I feel pity for those less fortunate then me, I'm very optomistic about living with 7 people in a 2 bedroomed house becuase I know that at least I have a roof over my head and dinner on the table, I know there are those who arent as fortunate, I know there are those who some times have to steal and kill just to be able to eat, I know there's people out there in Iran and Iraq or Pakistan who have to immigrate here becuase there constanly struggling from getting bombed and shot, or living in chaos, So I concider my self fortunate.
