However, have you all seen the awesomeness that is Cataclysm? Seriously, it looks incredible. So much so that I am reconsidering getting TOR and just sticking with WoW for Cata.
Well If cataclysm is due out before christmas of this year, and ToR wont hit till late 1st early second quarter of 2011, wouldnt you have time to do both? Honestly, If your already at current max level in WoW how long does it take you to milk the entertainment out of an expansion? Took me about 4-5 months for BC, and didnt play WoLK much beyond creating a DK.

Galaxies? No considering it was released before WoW existed. Perhaps Kill Everquest, but wow, No.

Aion.. Seriously.. who actually ever said that Aion was going to be a wow killer? I literally have never hear or read anything saying it was going to be a wow killer that wasnt produced by the same company that produced Aion.

Warhammer, Perhaps that was said, but i really didnt ever hear it with a lot of confidence or in any sort of abundance.

EDIT: LOL seriously I need to stop muckraking (YAA IM A MUCKRAKER NOW!) in this thread. Sorry all.

I so wish Dark Age of Camelot had become what WoW is in MMO's. It came out first I believe and IMO is way deeper and has way more replay.

Aside, I think a major chunk of WoW players will leave, but it ain't dying.

ok im a wow player and here are the reasons ill probly not get TOR
1. if its fee is more then $15 it aint getting my money
2. if it aint balenced ie i keep getting my ass handed to me by a sith
3.finaly if the game released is more then $50 thats more then wow ever was
now i hope all of these are just misbegoten thots and the game is perfect but even then with half wows hard core people leaveing itll still be in the lead. now dont get me wrong if the game is good its gonna make WOW work for its money again but still blizz is good at one thing and only one thing makeing a game and then makeing it better then its rivals.

Ehh, I just kinda grabbed SWG at random, now Aion on the other hand I know for a fact I saw a thread of someone saying "Is Aion teh WoW killah?" right around its release. To be honest I had never heard of Aion until about two weeks before launch.

As for Warhammer, oh dear sweet zombie jesus it was a perpetual flame war in WoW's trade chat about 3 months before the release. Constant fights over who was ripping off who etc etc.(it's what I assume will go down in Star Trek online right before SW:TOR goes live) Now I played Warhammer for a solid three months, the PvP was most certainly most engaging and fun than anything I'd experienced in WoW at the time. (still haven't; I despise WoW PvP with a passion) However, at the end of the day PvP was all Warhammer had and darn it all if I wasn't hankerin' for some decent PvE content.

The Old Republic will not kill WoW. It is just too big, too popular, too widespread to be removed from it's place at the top. I bet every person here knows at least 2 people who play WoW. Hell, they could probably start their own damn country there's so many players. But, TOR will give them some competition. I'm sure there are lots of fans of MMOs that like Star Wars too.

I really do hope that SW:ToR will not be a WoW killer as I don't want all the potty mouth kiddies swarming en mass to SW:ToR from WoW and disturbing my gameplay :p

SW:ToR will do just fine with the loyal fanbase it has now and even after the initial bandwagon jumping has died down after the first couple of months it will even out to a decent size community.

We also said WoW had met it's match in AoC, and we all know how that turned out. Infact, we say WoW will meet it's match everytime a new MMO comes out.

If I remember correctly, Mabinogi has over 15 million players worldwide, as opposed to WoW's 11 or so million, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don;t think WoW is as popular as alot of people think...?

MMOs aren't like FPS mutiplayers which are all a bunch of flavors of the month to pass the time.

People spend years developing their characters in these games, and they have a lot more to lose if they're to switch to the next best thing.

Hence why WoW has stayed on the top of the food chain for this long.

So to answer your question: No.

WoW has not met its match, even if TOR turns out really good, you're not going to see a giant portion of WoW players abandon that game for this unless they're dead set on leaving behind 5 years of memories.

Players like me are difference since I left WoW because I just couldn't deal with the grind anymore, and you won't see people like me subbing for more than three month either for any MMO because we just don't have that drive anymore.

The only thing that might beat WoW is a MMO made by Blizzard. They know the "recipe" and they are the only ones who can improve it.

Although I think that Diablo 3 might be rumored to be a WoW killer, but I think it will not be the case.

Small chance it'll pull a sizable amount of people from WoW. But hell it might, never know till it gets released.

It may provide a degree of competition, however if WoW is ever toppled you know they will just make WoW 2.

In all honesty, no. I used to play lots of WoW a few years ago, and constantly so many people I knew would always say "Oh wow is dead now that Warhammer Online is out!" They would disappear for a couple weeks and then land right back to WoW. Lots of people said that about Eve, Conan, Warhammer and one other I can't remember.

Old Republic might be a little different, but only because of the starwars fan base. Other then that nothing really special, just another company looking at WoW and then looking at their pockets and realizing they aren't as full as they want.

Has it really been 2 years already since people were announcing how WoW would meet it's demise because of Age of Conan and Warhammer online.
Why don't people just want to accept that WoW is as good as it gets?

Didn't we say WoW might have met its match when Lord of the Rings online went live? I doubt this will hurt WoW too much.
and when Warhammer went online, and when Age of Conan went online, and when Aion went online, and when "insert MMO here" went online.

Come on guys, this is getting boring, one day there'll be a title that succeeds WoW, and it could even be Old republic, but nothing is gonna come along and kill it. theres just too many long time players and fanboys who will resist walking away from wow.

Old republic is gonna be huge, theres no doubt about it, but its not going to kill anything.
