Has Zero Punctuation Run its Course?

I was thinking the same thing, but they're getting better again. I don't find them funny, of course, because I'm a veteran of the series and I've pretty much seen all the tricks. I don't think anyone new to the show would be bored of it; in fact I think they'd like to see more. My problem is that I enjoy(ed) Zero Punctuation so much that whenever I was depressed or pissed off (which is usually once a day) I would watch Zero Punctuation and feel better. That of course means that I watched every episode multiple times, which in hindsight was a mistake.

Zero Punctuation is not dead; the veteran viewers are. I say to Yahtzee and the Escapist to keep it up despite the hate, because for every one of us who watched it too much and got bored, there are 20 who want to keep watching!

Yes, and I think it had quite a long while ago. It's like its running a "Victory Lap," that is lasting longer than the actual race. It's gotten more and more same-y, I miss when his videos had less of a professional feel and started and ended with different songs instead of that boring intro/outro instrumental.

I'd take AVGN over ZP anyday, and even after the years AVGN has been around, he is still original (although sometimes he seems to lose it), and provides useful (I'm kind of using this word loosely) information about level structures, game design, difficulty, etc.

No. Still as funny as ever. I love the ranting, and mostly the reviews only take 4 minutes, so I can watch alot of them and get a general idea of the game, instead of listening to a 12 min review. Also it's funny.

I don't think it really can run it's course. It's just Yahtzee's way of reviewing games.

I keep coming back every week because I think his reviews are valuable. Game reviewers are too quick to drool all over games with big budgets and I think Yahtzee's feedback is important.

At first, I watched ZP because his videos were funny. Now I'm well over the gag, I've seen every review, but I still come back every Wednesday to see what he's reviewed.

Personally, I don't buy games anymore before I hear what Yahtzee has to say about them. That's not to say I agree totally with his taste in games (I prefer GTA4 to SR2, for example), but I think he makes excellent points about games other reviewers often leave out.

Thanks Yahtzee. Please keep reviewing games.

ZP is not a review that you watch to decide whether or not you want to buy a game. If you want that kind of review go watch IGN's reviews (because Gametrailers is more for seeing reviews for games you'll never play because it gives so much away). ZP is at it's absolute funniest when you've actually played the game he's reviewing and have lived through (but maybe not have verbalized) the quirky things in a game. That's what makes it funny for me.

Controversial I know.

Anyway I was thinking (surprising right?) that I don't actually find the new ZP's that funny. Maybe it's just me, or the 'shock' has worn off but I think it's because they're all a bit samey. Apart from a few such as the Wolfenstein review which were pretty special, the new ones seem to be...

'I was playing this game... (insert obscure expletive)... (insult developer)... (make a cock joke)...

...and I'm not really finding it funny any more. My thought is that it should do what The Office did and stop now before it gets worse.

Or am I completely wrong?

I disagree. This weeks video was one of my all time favorites.

Meh, we get one of these threads every other week.

If you're tired of Zero Punctuation, stop watching it. Zero Punctuation is done when enough people stop watching it (assuming Yahtzee doesn't get tired of making them first - a distinct possibility) but don't hold your breath: your opinion will not be universal.

I... Hmm, it's hard to say.
On one hand, there's been certain reviews where Yahtzee's had a lot of fire from the community (Torchlight's a recent one), and I agreed with some of the complaints. Some of the lack of funniness is the "familiarity breeds contempt" situation, and due to the regular exposure to his jokes you're not as shocked/humored by them

But on the other, he can be funny and there are times where he'll say it as it is and I do agree from time to time.

I remember laughing uncontrollably at the Burnout Paradise one, but nowadays it doesn't even merit any physical reaction.

I still watch it though, not saying I don't like it, it's just kinda samey.

I agree, sadly. I don't mean to take him off the site or anything, but he's gotten stale. The whole '*british accent*THISGAMESUCKSBECAUSEIJUSTPOINTEDOUTASMALLFLAWTHAT'SKINDAFUNDEMENTALTOTHEGAME' (cookies to whoever who can translate that) get's old after a while. I know he's not serious when he critiques the games, but still. He should really do something different every now and then.

I still think it's hilarious. Although now that you mention it, the new ones, for a while (they're getting better again), did go downhill slightly.

Fuck no!

Ok, the shock value has gone down, but ZP is still way funnier than every single Escapist show combined.

Well, being a foreigner, it is always sort of a challenge for me to completely understand him, and therefore I listen very carefully to him. This make his videos challenging and thus a lot of fun to watch. What I like about his humor is the analogies he comes up with.

*ahem*
His job is to review games.

He does not exist solely to entertain the mindless plebes.

I never got this. Since the first reviews, there have always been people who say, "That wasn't funny, it sucked, lololol", while missing out on the point that the first, and foremost, purpose of a review is to give someone a clue on whether they should buy a game. If somebody disagrees with Yahtzee, that's A-OK, but saying that he's run his course because his game reviews aren't funny is like saying that religion has run its course because there aren't enough perks.
EXACTLY! Thank you, someone can speak it better than I can.
In my opinion I still think he's bad at reviewing. I mean no mean-ness to Yahtzee, but rarely do I find any of his points to have that much merit.

well considering I thought the darksiders review was his finest work, I would have to say no

"A Gun That Opens Blue And Orange Portals, Outstanding"

"I Am A Monster Truck That Walks Like A Man"

"The Game Skirts Coyly Around Anything As Offensive As God And Satan Having A Punchup In A Car Park"

easily some of his best stuff
