Ben shares many of my beliefs on what constitute good games, so even if a ZP isn't funny he often makes very valid points. Something you won't see often from a reviewer is honesty, which I appreciate when he bashes a bad game.

I'm with the people on the side of thinking that always talking about if it has run its course has run its course.....

On every gaming forum there are way to many threads about ZP. He's just a guy who has opinions which in reality mean no more then anybody else's here who have played the game.So whether you agree or disagree find him funny or not what difference does it make? like many people keep pointing out here even the so called haters make an effort every week to come here and watch it so they can't dislike it that much.

These discussions remind me of when people try to be the "new cool" by disliking something popular like,

"yeh i used to like that band before they were discovered by the mainstream. Now they are so commercialized and have lost their originality"

And then go off and listen to them anyway.....

I love ZP. As long as Yatzhee has viewership he should keep doing what he's doing. While he certainly has run his course for some, he has not run his course in general. There are plenty of other features on the Escapist to view and enjoy and asking Yatzhee to change misses the broader perspective: If you've grown tired move on to something else. When and if he runs out of fans he will either do something different or Escapist will likely find something with more viewers to fill his place.

To be honest, I think it's the quality of recent games.

He's a critic, so he'll nit pick. Good games means the review won't be very funny. Bad games means they will be. The same could be said for mediocre games.

Just because he's seemed out of form as of late or because it's all seemed repetitive, may not necessarily be due to him being unfunny, but games being too difficult to critique.

>_>

I still like ZP, I think it always goes through peaks and troughs but I actually think the later ones have been better, because after he went through a patch of just ranting about nothing he's really started to review the inner workings of the game now (IMO).

Also, Rebecca Mayes rocks, leave her alone.

It's still going to be profusely popular. I still think it is the second most over-appreciated show on the Escapist.
Making what (in your opinion) the most overrated show on The Escapist?

I still watch his reviews and enjoy them. I personally never watched "just for laughs", though they did help. For laughs I'll watch Loading Ready Run or Unskippable. Yahtzee is still informative in his reviews and gives me a nice alternate to the IGN-esque bland reviews.

Huh? From where I'm sitting, he seems to have gotten his groove back for the past ten or so reviews. The stuff between Resident Evil 5 and Scribblenauts were all at best hit-or-miss (with a couple of standouts like Call of Juarez and Wolfenstein), but I've been loving the reviews again since Uncharted 2.
That's pretty much the Yahtzee Curve:

If X-axis is representative of the Quality of Comedic Value, then Y-axis is representative of the Time Passing for Each Year. We can see here that the massive decline at (2.1945,-1.1828) is the mid-summer lack of release titles. However, at (2.8137,3.8081), we see a huge spike, representing the fall release of huge, big-name titles, thereby increasing the humorous experience exponentially. Math is power, people.

I don't see why everyone always needs to find the episode hilarious to like it. Sometimes,I'm actually rather interested in his opinion. The way he reviews it is what keeps getting me to watch it,he does it in a way that gets the point across and entertains. And sure some jokes are falling flat, but thats a personal opinion.but still-a critics a critic. Personally,I don't see much a decline.

Controversial I know.

Anyway I was thinking (surprising right?) that I don't actually find the new ZP's that funny. Maybe it's just me, or the 'shock' has worn off but I think it's because they're all a bit samey. Apart from a few such as the Wolfenstein review which were pretty special, the new ones seem to be...

'I was playing this game... (insert obscure expletive)... (insult developer)... (make a cock joke)...

...and I'm not really finding it funny any more. My thought is that it should do what The Office did and stop now before it gets worse.

Or am I completely wrong?

His job is to review games.

He does not exist solely to entertain the mindless plebes.

I never got this. Since the first reviews, there have always been people who say, "That wasn't funny, it sucked, lololol", while missing out on the point that the first, and foremost, purpose of a review is to give someone a clue on whether they should buy a game. If somebody disagrees with Yahtzee, that's A-OK, but saying that he's run his course because his game reviews aren't funny is like saying that religion has run its course because there aren't enough perks.

for me it's gotten funnier. I've watched the first vids he's done in comparison to the newer ones. There is definitely evidence of improvement and higher quality. The older ones sometimes warranted a chuckle while the new ones had me laughing much more often. I guess I just see improvement and practice where others see sameness. What exactly do you expect him to do? What is he doing wrong? If the answer is that he's found a comfortable style (some may call it delivering the same sort of material every time),then I'd say he's gone the route of comedians whose names stick with us. Comedians get better over time before they start to deteriorate. They begin the deterioration when they move away from what works for them in the name of staying edgy/up-to-date. To me, I say this to Yahtzee: so far, so good.

Yahtzee is still as good as he was. I was thinking that his reviews are doomed to become mainstream and boring after time... But it's been around 2,5 years and he's had some flaws, but most of his work here is amazing. And I've been watching his videos over and over again for over a year... And still like them. And even the new ones.

But people tend to get bored of stuff at a different rate - some do it faster, some slower... Can't escape that.

It was his entertainment that got us plebs here in the first place.

A subjective point of view question...
But I like it, I still think it's funny, but I guess that if something has been a 10 when everything else is a 7, it going down to an 8 is still a decline. (If you get my point... wait... I'm not sure I get my point...) anyway, I think because it was so above average the first few episodes, now that it has gone down to average people don't think it's as great as it used to be.
