Controversial I know.

Anyway I was thinking (surprising right?) that I don't actually find the new ZP's that funny. Maybe it's just me, or the 'shock' has worn off but I think it's because they're all a bit samey. Apart from a few such as the Wolfenstein review which were pretty special, the new ones seem to be...

'I was playing this game... (insert obscure expletive)... (insult developer)... (make a cock joke)...

...and I'm not really finding it funny any more. My thought is that it should do what The Office did and stop now before it gets worse.

Or am I completely wrong?

(Normal rules apply about respecting opinions and being nice blah-de-blah blah)
Most of the reviews aren't on games i qould see him reviewing without having to. Like Borderlands i didn't even wanna see him review [comment on or whatever he does] cause it isn't really a single player game i expect to see from him. Mass Effect was pretty much forced as well. I mean most of the games he is doing now he has too in order to get to others

It's still amusing. But yeah, I do agree. I watched all of the episodes from oldest to newest and found it was getting more boring. Then when I went back to the old ones again I found myself trying not to spray my soda across the room or choking in it. The old ones are definitely better but the new ones aren't bad.

ZP is why I came here, and it's also one of the reasons I continue to stay. His reviews are consistantly entertaining, and I still find them funny. So no, it definitely hasn't run its course. It's a fantastic series, and one of the best on this site.

Oh, and to the people talking about how Rebecca Mayes gets by on her "looks".... I really do NOT think that's the reason she's still on the site. At All

His job is to review games.

He does not exist solely to entertain the mindless plebes.
Agreed.

I've always watched ZP as game reviews first and foremost, which Yahtzee, whether you like it or not, does very well. The comedy (it can hit and miss with me) is just icing on the cake.

So the answer is no, it hasn't run its course.

I'll second that last one. Geez, what's the deal with people telling "Oh, she is popular because she's good-looking"? It gets me really irritated. To all you, I'll share this piece of valuable knowledge: Yes, some girls are good-looking, and no, if they achieve something, it's not because of their looks. On the same principle I could say that because Yahtzee is a handsome stud, it's all because of his looks that he's popular.

Carry on.

I cant blame him for eps being bland if the games he's reviewing are a big snore-fest to begin with. But since he's made it clear that he doesnt actually PICK most of teh games, being uninterested in what you're reviewing can also lead to a feeling of "Wtf am i doing this for?"

There are spells of samey-ness every so often, usually around non-release months. Not his fault he has to pull something out of his ass.

Also: He -is- british. So unless you find british humor funny, and i don't mean to call out the rabid fanboys of Monty Python (who are fanboys for no real reason, because they honestly dont understand WHY something is funny), you aren't going to find everything ZP funny either.

Its still Ok.

It has brought about 75% of the Escapists population to here after hearing about him, so it gets credit for that.

I'm getting kind of bored. Not only because it's predictable, mostly because my introducing it to my friend has led him to be ultra-critical about everything.

Well, for all the games I've played, his reviews are dead-on. They may focus on the negative aspects, but they're funny all the same.

I don't watch it weekly nowadays though, only when I've finished a game that he's reviewed.

Incidentally, what's with all the Rebecca Mayes hate? I mean, I never watched her show, but the hate-spewing came completely out of nowhere.

Earlier ones had more testimony in, which I preffered, but all the same, I think it's gotten to a point where he can run it for however long he likes. It still makes me giggle and that's fine by me.

I disagree because I look at it from a different perspective.

What I watch isn't a man being being funny by swearing into his mic and making a charming little cartoon to go with it, I'm watching a video game review.

It doesn't have to be funny (it is), it has to be an accurate depiction of what is shit about a game.
Everywhere else says 'MASS EFFECT 2 IS THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS, IT GETS FOUR MILLION OUT OF TEN'. Sure enough, that's what's good. Now, the bad points?

Ben fucking Croshaw.

I still watch it, as I enjoy what he has to say.

However, I do agree that, for whatever reason, it has grown less funny.

Hmm, I'm not sure it should finish yet. Maybe in a few years. It's still funny. I just don't have to watch it anymore. I'm more interested to watch sxephil on Youtube.
