I'm not a racist, but...

I'm not a racist, hell I love fried chicken.

Not that I'm aware of. I may well have said some ignorant shit in my early teen years, but I never got called out on it. To be honest, there really aren't that many non-honkies in this neck of the woods anyway. Did once jokingly refer to a friend as a 'Polack' but luckily neither of us took it seriously. It's not the kind of joke I'd make now, I'm not quite as tactless as I was a few years ago.

OHH yeah

Right here on the escapist but no where else ever.

I'm not trying to make a statement about the community, I know its just people jumping to conclusions. I am however definatley not a racist because I try to dislike people for who they are, not what they are.

Last time i remember someone asked if we had something at work, we didn't on the shelf i wandered in the back had a look couldn't find any, came back apologised. He then accused me of being racist, maybe he thought stock levels worked on a race bases, he may have been black but that didn't stop us not having what he wanted.

Quite often but to be fair most white people in the city I live in are racist due to the ways certain groups act which rub us the wrong way. The most recent time I was called racist isn't related to that though, in English last week we were watching The Help in order to compare it to To Kill a Mockingbird, in the movie one of the black maids is an amazing cook and one of her specialties is fried chicken since almost every scene with her featured fried chicken I began adding some commentary when the character wasn't talking such as "we need some chicken to celebrate," "look at all that fried chicken," and "This is going to take a while I need some fried chicken." Some people I was sitting by called me a racist for my remarks but they were half joking.

I don't like Obama, so of course I've been accused of racism.

Also, if someone says 'Is it beacuse I'm black?' I reply with, in the most serious face I can make 'Yes. Yes it is'. It never is but if someone is enough of a prick to pull the race card on me I will say they're right because it pisses them off even more.

Really only by people who take issue with evolution, and want to prove teaching biology leads to nazism.

With such stellar arguments such as "Darwin was racist" and "Evolutionists claim that white people evolved from black and so are more evolved."

Really, I've faced more racism than been accused of it.
And not even racism about my ethnicity, I have been mistaken for a Romani.

Also one crazy guy on a bus once started yelling how he knew I was in league with 'them' and sending telepathic signals to his head.

Maybe I just look suspicious.

Ooh, almost forgot, I'm going to leave the thread now, and if when I come back it's escalated into a full on flame war with accusations of racism flying left and right, someone better have a damn good explanation.

What am I talking about? You guys are so level headed. I'm sure that you'll be fine.

Once in high school some black kids that I'd had disagreements with (for reasons unrelated to skin color) came up and asked me why I hated black people. I responded with: "I don't hate black people. I just hate *you*".

I was accused of racism once a few years ago. I was walking down the street at night and came up behind two black men walking more slowly than I was in the same direction, taking up the whole sidewalk. I walked around them, and one of them remarked how much of a shame it was that I was "too scared of them to say excuse me," citing that "We have a black president now, we're all together."

I was a little too surprised and confused to manage a rebuttal regarding the fact that if I had been truly scared of them I would have crossed the street, not turned my back on them on a lonely city street at 1am. But that was the incident that made me realize that if you assume somebody hates you just because they're white, you're the one who's racist.

An girl of darker complexion once misheard me, and thought I addressed her as, "******".

Now, since she wasn't the nicest of people, I chalked this up to an intentionally mishearing, as her and I didn't see eye to eye on things.

Was about three years ago now, actually.

Ive not personally, but I see so many things about 'reverse racism', 'Politcal Correctness' and 'Double Standards' that I assume some of you have, as with any issue its better to talk about it then sweep it under the carpet, so please share your experiences and points of view.
I was once accused of racism. When I challenged the accusation I received this nugget of wisdom:

"I know you are racist because you are white. All white people are racist."

This was said to my face with complete seriousness and conviction. There was no attempt at irony or joking self awareness.

Yes. With good reason I suppose as well.

'Lebos' are the street walking scum of the Lebanese People.
Just as Aussies have 'Lads and Bogans'.
Black Americans have 'niggers'.
White people have 'skinheads' and HK's.
No race or colour I can think of doesn't have one.

Anyways, my family - and generally the community of people I've grown up in; hate lebos. They say 'lebs'. Single syllable and you can spit it out in a second!
It's hard to kick the opinion you hear around you so frequently, so every now and then I'll say something without thinking like 'lol, dirty leb,' and I'd like to say 'sorry it's my father/my family, not me'... I've only ever had a single positive experience with the Lebanese; and that was a woman I met who tried to break up a fight.

So whilst I'm more than happy to 're-evaluate my opinion' of a specific person; you know - prove yourself and I'll happily change, I've still got a pretty low baseline opinion.

I have been called a racist by some middle eastern guy at work mainly because I don't like him because he's lazy, overly opinionated, misogynist, immature and just plain annoying.

He of course doesn't seem to care that I hang out with 2 indians, a black girl and an Irish guy at work. (I know being Irish is not a race.)

Possibly seriously once. Not sure. The guy was kind of dumb and so was I so I'm gonna spoiler this in case of retardation.
Okay, so I was like 14 or something. Young and stupid. This one guy was being a prick to me, so, being the 14 year old that I was, I called him a ****** in return.
He then proceeded to use some horsefuck logic that I was insulting Indian people because he had an Indian girlfriend and by calling him a ****** I was implying that... Indian's had... messed up... sexuality?
I dunno. It was weird.

Yes, and frankly I'm not surprised. I do appear to be a bit racist. I act upon assumptions of behaviours and attributes that seem to correlate with race. I don't like Lebanese people, not as a rule, and I'm not going to treat one badly off the bat, but in my experience the majority have been dicks to me, in the same way I don't like old people driving because the majority of slow drivers have been elderly. If you asked me what my impression was of young Lebanese men, I'd tell you that they're thugs, they wear Nike fits and tracksuit pants, move in packs and don't know when to shut up and let live, because that's most of the ones I've met. The fact is that people belong to different groups, and some of those groups are linked with race.

I also have problems with people who work in communications jobs but can hardly string a sentence together in the native language of the country they're working in, or have an accent so harsh that the majority of people can't understand what they're saying. I had a phone call from my bank recently. To this day I have no idea what the problem was, because after four repetitions I still didn't know what the hell the guy was saying, and when I rang back it was the same guy. Also university lecturers. And this often correlates with race, unsurprisingly. It's not racist, but it may be misconstrued as such.

I don't see myself as racist, because any assumptions I have are not unfounded, I am disliking attributes associated with people of a race rather than the race itself and I don't consider people of other races to be lesser people, but I can understand why others would see me as racist.

I don't think it means what you think it means; its normally a discriptor. If you're a bogan it means that you wear a flanno t shirt, thongs (foot attire), have a mullet and that there is a 75% chance that you have a bottle of VB in you hand at this moment in time. Yes Bogans are inherently nationalistic douche nozels; but as an Australian I can tell you that is a condition native to all Australians; not just the bogans.

Lay off the humble bogan, the humble bogan is you friend. Most likely an honest trades man with a reasonable call out fee and a free hours worth of labour if you give him a carton.

OT: Yes I have, a guild knew I was Australian and they all started calling me racist. Not to be out done, those of African American decent earned the nick name PC# (Purple [Naughty Word] [number]) for a day. It was all in good fun.

I remember on of them; an inactive marine DI, spent some time in sydney and was treated quite well but noticed the natives were not. He was kind of blunt as far as describing them too... I had to explain why there was a lot of tension between us and the Aboriginals.

Of course, during the election I heavily opposed Obama, so of course this is because I'm a racist and hate all blacks. Or something. I usually just leave them to their delusions, as once someone makes up their minds about you it's almost impossible to make them see you're not as bad as they thought.
