It may sound a little petty...but this one random thug tried to shoot me in Red Dead Redemtion and hit a dog that was roaming the streets instead, i went Hilk on him and took him apart slowly, finished him off by tying him up and putting him on the train tracks.

The leader in Little Lamplight.

The fact that I keep forgetting I can't kill him, and always end up having the entire town of immortal kiddies chasing my ass out of their hideout is evidence of this. Then being maimed and chased away my children just adds insult to injury.

Those fucking beggars from Assassin's Creed. You walk past them and they SHOVE you for no bloody reason. And then you can't bloody kill them because you lose 1/3 sync whenever you try.
I tell you, I went on a fucking killing spree after I completed the game.

Yup, Boomer in Socom: Navy Seals. OMG, was he annoying. Everytime I'd try to line up a shot to snipe someone he'd walk in front of me or startle my target. It got to the point where I'd shoot him in the back of the head at the start of every level.
Did you know in the second socom they said he died for that exact reason??

OT: i don't really hate npc's although i'm sure there are a few that annoyed me to no end.

Every fucking Spartan in Noble team.
Nothing has been more ferociously annoying than playing through on Legendary with those retards.
I'd find myself just chasing them through the levels beating them with whatever weapon I had until they'd actually do something.

Normal marine NPCs can be excused for being useless, but Spartans?! They should know better.

EDIT: Also, those damn beggars in Assassin's Creed? Agreed. Similarly to Noble team, I would forgo entire pickpocket missions if one of those ruined it for me and beat them into the dirt.

EDIT EDIT: Guild Wars NPCs. All of them. Whenever ANY NPC in that game (looking at you, Mhenlo) has to survive a mission, it's a guaranteed fail. If you've played this, you'll know how freakin' suicidal they are. It's mindblowingly annoying.

Also surprised it hasn't come up - legendary pokemon - these bastards have such a low catch rate and are a ***** to get. For me Giratina in platinum, took me around 6-8 tries with 35 dusk balls each time

Claptrap from Borderlands.

"LOOK, LOOK, I'M DANCIN'!!! I'M DANCIN'!!!"

I can't help but feel that high-pitched squeakiness and a grating robot voice were quite possibly the worst combinations you can have as voice acting.

The apes from Ape Escape. Those cheeky bastards.
Yes, especially when they constantly jump over the net in Ape Escape 3. Speaking of Ape Escape 3, when they go beserk as well, it's realy scary if they steal your net.

Oh, thank god somebody finally brought this up. But then, at least the Spartans don't get in the way. I swear to god, the marines in Halo become more mentally handicapped every game. It reached the point where i was scoring more successful hits on friendlies then hostiles because they would not get out of the frigging way!!!

Also, how has nobody mentioned the guild master from fable 1?

"Hero, your will energy is low. What's that?"

Ummm... question, what the hell are you on about mate? The twat would not shut up about my bloody will energy! GAH!

Oh, yes.

The entirety of the Morag Tong in Morrowind.

For having the base entrance be staffed by diseased/blighted rats. I enter that base, and everyone dies, via console command, usually. As it's generally only 3-5 hours in that I get there, and I'm too weak to kill 'em. Never even touch the Morag Tong questline, because the entrance is so stupid...
