I've been waiting about 8 years to get a copy of Metal Gear Solid 2 back from a guy I lent it to. He lives in Korea now. I don't think I'll see it again.

Not really, I don't let anyone come near any of my stuff, especially if it's a game. The only time that did happen was when I let a friend borrow my copy of Castlevania Curse of Darkness and she didn't return it for about five months. When she finally did give it back she was like "Yeah I didn't even finish it. I got past the third boss but then I got distraced by Final Fantasy XIII." The *****.

While not related to borrowing, I certainly have stories of people wrecking shit up.

One time I had to continually move to another family to be "babysat" while my family were out of the house for a week or weekend at a time. One time a friend of the oldest brat in the house (a year younger than me at the time) managed to fuck up my Spider-man game for the PS1 by just opening the PS1 and taking out the disk, flat-out dumping it on the table that the console was standing on afterwards. Now every time I replay it, the disc stops at the Mysterio boss fight. Also the main brat who lives in that house used to blu-tac game discs to the ceiling for no better reason than lulz. He and his younger brother (who must be maybe 5 years younger) have no fucking clue how to treat discs well (as if their perpetual immature attitudes weren't torture enough).

I also had a classmate who never learned to turn off his PS2 properly (he always used the power switch in the back and not, say, holding the power button on the front for 2 seconds like you're supposed to).

Some time 2-3 years ago I had to put up with living with a pre-teen girl. This house wasn't a gamer's place, it only had a chipped PS1 with a rather oversized controller. I never figured what happened to the sound card of that thing as it was always causing static and distorted sound. Sorry, got distracted there. The girl in question here would, whenever this PS1 froze, continually press the power button, reset button and repeat, back and forth. Go figure she wouldn't even give a fuck when I scolded her for trying to fry the fucking thing.

Most of my games are in purely digital form, so lending isn't really a thing. My books, on the other hand...have had a couple problems.

Yes, my friend borrowed civ 5 from me because he wanted to try before he bought it, he scratched the CD so I made him buy me a new copy.
So far, you are the first of everyone that has made their friend pay for the game they borrow.
OT: I will let ANY of my friends borrow a game, no matter how bad they treat it. But they all sign little wavers they will buy a new copy if my old one is damaged, along with trauma fees. Needless to say, very few people borrow games from me. That's how I like it.

I never finished the first Spyro game because I was stuck on the last boss, so let my friend borrow it while I occupied myself with Crash Bandicoot.
Got it back and the disc looked fine, but no matter what we tried it wouldn't work again.

Can't exactly be angry at her for it though. We were 6 or 7, not exactly the most careful of ages.
Besides, I liked Crash Bandicoot more.
Same thing happened to me, lent spyro(rypto's rage) to my friend when i was real little....probably 6 or 7 as well...got it back... :(

i let my friend borrow both the golden sun games. six months later I want them back but he can only find the first one. i give him two weeks to find it then I went and bought another copy and asked him for the 10 bucks it cost me. He said he didnt have the money, and im not sure what to do. I considered taking one of his games and selling it to gamestop to get my money back but i cant bring myself to being that much of a dick.

What's wrong with not having X-Box Live? I don't have X-Box Live (although it's because I'm fucking up every time I try to connect....) To me, it just means that local multiplayer needs to be memorable, and single-player has to stand on its own. I have Nintendo Wi-Fi and a Steam account, but I can't connect to X-Box Live.

Anyway, I used to be like that. Not keeping care of my games. But I learned, and now all the games I have are kept at the condition I bought them in (Used Halo 3 in working order, Dead Rising 2 in pristine condition).

Its not that its bad he doesn't have XBOX Live, its that most people I know who get violent gaming is online, but were playing Mafia II and he was getting pissed there were too many cut scenes. I spend three hours playing driving ***** in that game and didn't watch one cutscene, he would just skip them. Its like every time he takes damage in anything he flips shit. I remember an instance where he had his like 12 year old neighbor over playing COD and he flipped shit on him and called him a little fucker. The strange thing is when he isn't playing games he is one of the nicest people I know. Either he's bipolar (which I'm sure he isn't) or Jack Thompson is correct (which I know for sure he isn't)

Yeah, I do.

A friend of mine is terrible keeping her stuff. Half of of the boxes have nothing in them and the other half have the discs swapped. But before I knew how she kept her games I lent her TWO games, at the same time. She was going for a trip and was out of games. She wanted to try FF Tactics Advance and TLOZ: A Link to the Past, both for the GBA. Of course, no problem. I lent her the games. So she returns form her trip. "Hey, I lost your FFTA". Great, over 100 hours lost. "Well, there is nothing to do, but the other game is right, isn't it?" "Yes, I'll bring it tomorrow. And I'll buy you the game I lost". She kept delaying everything. And one day she calims she already gave it back. I have no recollection of that, but I believe her.

Years pass. About a year ago I go to her place and see a small GBA cartridge. I have the compulsion to see all games that are near my hands. I grab it. The yellow sticker is almost unreadable, but I make out "TLOZ: A Link to the Past". "It can't be" I tell myself, but luckily I have my DS with me, so I pop the game in. The first save slot has my name in big letters. When she returns to the living room I ask her WTF, her answer "It was yours?". I will never again let her even touch my games without my supervision. And I'm still waiting for anotehr copy of FFTA.

And all of our friends have the same attitude. She completly destroyed an anime series another friend gave her. He loved the series.

No, but I did loan an old "friend" the first Saints Row and I don't talk to that guy anymore. He still has my game.

a friend of mine saved over my oblivion game that I'd sunk 80 hours into

>_<

oddly enough, I wasn't angry, I was more glad that my friend freed me from my addiction, albeit accidentally. then I bought him a beer.

I once got a game back, the disc was cracked neatly in half and it was dusty and grimy. The box had also been tossed around a bit, the latch of the DVD case was split open so it didn't shut.

So in answer to your question... yesss.

Not yet, but my friend told me he would lend me Army of Two: TFD 2 months ago, and hasn't given it to me yet. I remind him often, and I'm getting the feeling he really doesn't have it.

I had something like that happen once, because of it now I do not lend my games out except to a select few(actually only two people)

I regularly let one of my friends borrow games and normally everything is fine. However my copy of Dragon Age is messed up in such a weird way that I can't even work out what must have happened to it.
