Have you ever liked a game everyone else hated (or just said it sucked)?

I had fun playing Duke Nukem Forever.

It was nowhere near what was expected, but it still had it's moments.

Hm well when I was in high school everybody hated Viewtiful Joe 1 because of the "crappy graphics" and because it was a sidescroller. It was really annoying but eh, their loss :D

Dragon Age 2 and FF 13.

I'm not shy about how I think these two games are great and deserved the high reviews scores they got. People I know in real life tend to feel the same way as I do...most people online tend to feel these products are among the worst games made in the last couple years.

Aside from the above, I can only think of games I personally couldn't get into or outright hated that everyone else I knew loved. Namely Fallout 3, Assassin's Creed and GTA 4.

Dog's Life. Anyone here know it? It's not terrible, but certainly not very good, either. But I still enjoy it to this day. What appeals to me is that you play as a regular old dog in a regular old town, as opposed to games like Okami and Twilight Princess wherein you play as supernatural creatures that look like wolves. I wish there were a few more games like it.

Also you can make your character fart on command. For some reason I used to think that was sheer brilliance.

FF XII and XIII, which are my second and third favorite FF games (with FF IX being my favorite because of nostalgia).

Everyone seems to agree that Assassin's Creed is bad. It seems to be just taken as a fact, rather than an opinion that it's a bad game, but I love Assassin's Creed II. I haven't played the 1st one, so maybe that's what all the fuss is about, but I don't get it.

FFXIII.

In my opinion, it's not nearly as good as FFIX and FFVII, but I still thought it was a really good game. The battle system is also more complex than people on here seem to give it credit for on this site.

Normally, I would also say FFVII, but from what I've seen from some recent threads, it seems like there are more people on here who like FFVII than I thought there were.

The original Fable. Pretty much everyone I've seen here that's given their opinion on it said they hated it, so I'm guessing it fits into that category. I don't see what's so bad about it at all, I've played through the game at least 20 times by now, I love it. The sequels were pretty bad, but the original was great. I need to play it again sometime.

I can't think of any others, too tired. So I'll just stick with that.

Oh yeah, I remember that game. I didn't think it was too bad either. I remember the last level being very scary because of what happens if you fail though.

Seriously:

Putting a dog on a conveyor belt to be chopped up and grounded into cat food? What. The. Fuck. I mean they didn't actually show anything, but the pile of cans that fall onto the floor basically says it all.

I liked Tobal 2, I let some tekken players try it and they hated it. At the time (1996 I believe) Tobal 2 had the hottest game engine for a full 3-D fight game in my opinion. THe grapple system was really well done, and the animations were awesome.

Yeah, Mirror's Edge. At least, I did when I played the first few levels at a friend's house.
Then I bought it... :[

Also, I enjoy CoD. Singleplayer, Multiplayer (With the "mute all" on), Spec Ops, the whole shebang. It's not something that EVERYONE hates per se, but the Escapist seems to have mixed feelings on it.

Final Fantasy 13- before I started to get on this website I heard a lot of hate for this game, it was the first FF game I've ever played, so I couldn't compare it to any of the other FF games. (I played FF7 after I beat XIII)
It was my first FF game too, and I was completely lost as to why everyone hated it when I loved it. The argument of "no towns so it sucks" was stupid to me since it would make zero sense for them to visit towns when they were wanted. I played FF7 afterwards didn't think it was great as everyone says it was, but what do I know.

OT: Dungeon Siege 3. I liked the game and I didn't know about the hatred of the game until after I finished it.

AVP [latest one], I adore this game, sure it has it's flaws, but I love it.
My friends, and the internet, disagree. And that hurts me inside.
I loved that game! If you have it for xbox and you have live look at my gamertag and send me a friend request I'll play it with you!
OT: Time shift, what a great game.

Duke Nukem Forever. It doesn't beat DN3D, but honestly, did anyone expect it to? Yeah, the 2 weapons limit is lame, and the lack of a kick attack is a bit dissapointing, but overall, I thought it was amusing, especially some of the little minigames like air hockey, pinball, etc.
Oh, and you can't go wrong with John St. John. His awesome Duke Nukem voice drown out how stupid (not funny stupid, just stupid) some of the jokes were.

I realize these don't count, but for the sake of the Escapist, Fallout 3 and Oblivion. I loved both without mods, whereas a large portion of this website dislikes Oblivion and prefers New Vegas.
