Fable II. Incredibly fresh direciton, incredibly terrible execution. Stats that change how your character looks, the good vs evil morals system, it's all neat and keen and all but at the same time it all feels so generic, the cartoonish look of everything doesn't help make it more fantastic, it just makes it look odd. Running through towns feels like you're running through set pieces in a college play rather than a brand new world. Even with their fresh ideas they dont do anything with them. Ok if I'm bad I get horns, if I'm good I get a halo, fear me or love me it's all the same. Marriage was pointless, most of the quests you get are boring pointless grindfests, getting cash is WAY to difficult in the beginning and WAY to easy from the middle to end, and all the damned towns sell all the same stuff. The only reason to visit another town is incase the town your currently in doesn't have that particular shop you're looking for, but if it does, you can bet your shiney millions it'll have all the same stuff as a similar store in a completely different town. The food thing was wierd. If I eat celery I get thin, Ok I get that, but if I eat Tofu people are going to forgive me for stabbing their dad? I can understand you're not supposed to eat 50 blocks of holy cheese to change your stats and that it's more of a supplimental to your lifestyle but who the hell isn't going to horde the 1 celery they sell at every store in Albion so they can get thin again after they realize pies aren't the best way to heal damage? The economy thing was a neat idea but with major glitches (fixed yet?) that didn't do anything either. For a game totted as having incredible replayability, there IS none. You fight the same 6 or 7 creatures throughout the whole game and once you're a certain level you stop seeing the weaker ones. I've seen more variation in Super Mario Brother's NES title. I think the game makes a lot of assumptions about how you're supposed to play the game contrary to how people actually play the game. Weapon progression is also insanely stupid. A few good hours into the game and I already had one of the best swords and guns you could get without grabbing up a Legendary.
Oh yeah, minor gripe - I know its rather fickle and kind of immature to have 'big breasted sultry beautiful womenz' in your video games, but fable of all games should make you sexier when you stat up, not OUT RIGHT HIDEOUS. 250 pound chisel jaw female anyone? What the hell were they thinking? Too many long range focused female characters are online now because no one wants to look like Chyna.
