I agree with you on the moral of the story and all of that, but the storytelling was too muddled to make the point effectively. Mewt didn't need to be that miserable, and to make the story connect properly, Marche shouldn't have been portrayed as having a flawless childhood. He needed to overcome some flaw in his real life, to confront Mewt and let him know that his life is no better than Mewt's, but that ugly reality is still worth living in. Otherwise, the game ends up telling the story of a popular kid taking away a miserable kid's fleeting chance at happiness.

The story could have worked, but in the end, it didn't, at least, not for me.
Yeah, I imagine that prior to translation or in an earlier draft, Marche was supposed to have to struggle with being the "new kid", but they never establish this because Marche makes friends almost immediately, which eliminates one of the biggest problems for a child when they move.

As it is, he's just too "perfect". It's fine if you have a character be the voice of reason, but don't turn him into a condescending jerk when he doesn't have any real basis of understanding.

EDIT: Herp derp. Formatting.

I sympathise with the Helghast in Killzone. The Good guys are nothing but a futuristic version of fascist America imposing its will on others.

Lucien from Fable 3.

You take over from him, and then he reveals that the whole nation is going to be invaded and crushed by an ancient horror. And to stop it, you have to be arguably worse than him (or break the game through exploiting real estate, but that's irrelevant). That was a big "Oh!" moment for me. Sure, he acted like a tyrannical dick, but he didn't have the time or the social stability to deal with rebels and protesters peacefully.
I think you mean Logan :p

But same here.

Every "villian" in the entire metal gear series.

the Boss was only doing her duty, and had to let herslf be killed in order to fulfill that duty.
Big boss wanted to free the world from the patriots.
Liquid wanted to carry on Big bosses dream [though i sympathize a little less wit hhim, cuz he was such a big murdering basterd]
Solidus wanted to break the patriots hold on the world
and Ocelot wanted to continue Solidus's and liquids work.

infact, if you think about it. Solid snake is kind of the villian here. though he doesnt realize it till the end. though perhaps less of a villian, he really was more of a pawn.

Come to think of it, I do feel sorry for the random guards around in the AC series, but Abstergo has no sympathy from me.

Probably Illidan Stormrage from Warcraft 3, and WoW. He got fucked over so many times.

Mr House
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! Illidan! I still rage until I bleed from my ears over the fact that he lost to the lich king, a villain so dull you couldnt cut butter with him!

Illidan was by FAR one of the coolest and most interesting characters in the warcraft universe, I still cant believe blizzard wrote him out...he had soooooooooooooo much potential....

OT: Cant really think of any...Dracula maybe? :p

Actually, you wanna know a Primarch I do feel sorry for? Fulgrim. He may have been a huge narcissist and kind of an asshole, but amongst the traitor Primarchs he didn't even have a choice in the matter; he was possessed and driven against his will. He never even did anything wrong, he just had something of an identity crisis and an unfortunately long look at some alien geometry.
True. That is pure horror, right there. He DID side with Horus, and went along to Istvaan before he was fully possessed though. I can't remember his initial reasons for siding with Horus, but something in my mind tells me there really wasnt a good reason, other than Horus sounded convincing. But yeah, damn, being trapped in your own body for eternity, while a demon kills your closest brother and then proceeds to bring the human race to extinction... That's not very nice.

Somebody already mentioned this, but Arthas from Warcraft 3. Classic case of good intentions with poor execution. And on the upside, when it all went pear shaped he got a horse.
Then there's Infamous. How can you not support the bad guy when he's
you?

when you think about it, its funny that when people are playing games like Left 4 Dead or Dead Space, they are having a bunch of fun mowing down zombies... but hardly anyone realizes that they used to be just normal people.

so i feel sympathetic for all zombies, necromorphs, and any enemy that was transformed into what it is :p

Seconded. The ISA (or rather, Earth and it's various governments) fucked them over big time, stole their planet and left them to rot on a shithole of a world where even breathing was considered a mircalous feat. They have every right to be pissed and to reclaim their world.

Plus the ISA are just boring as heroes.

hmm. This seems like a good time to rant more about Metroid Other M.

During the ending scene, I was yelling at the game to let me kick the ass of the federation soldiers as they were responsible for every single damn thing that happened on that bloody ship. Yet at the end, it seemed like the game was trying to make Madeline (I think that's what her name was) out to be the villain, instead of the Federation. Yet another reason I hate that fucking thing. Especially if my interpretation was correct.

Then there's the AI unit. She went nuts because of the federation being complete jackasses, so I refuse to call her the villain.

What I'm trying to say is that I have no idea who the game thought the villain was. It was undoubtedly the Federation, but the game seems to try and ignore that fact and blame the people that the federation fucked over.
Would it be inappropriate to say that I love you for this comment?
I agree that every chance you get, ranting should be done about Metroid Other M.

The villains were all around the place. First there's the AI. Then the Deleter (great name btw..) who simply vanishes all of a sudden and dies before we can even confront him. Then it's the federation again.
But even in the end, I cared more for them then Samus in that game.

Shame. Bloody shame.

Dr robotnick in the new sonic colours game
he opens up a theme park and invites sonic and sonic just starts randomely wreking his shit for no specific reason other than "this guy might still be evil"
meanwhile robotnick only starts trying to kill sonic after sonic starts destroying his theme park, when you think about it sonic is the villian
still a good game though
