Have you ever won a 'supposed to lose fight'?

If I recall correctly, I've been able to pummel all of the "unbeatable" fights in Tales of Symphonia and The Abyss, thanks in part to the New Game+ stuff. Additionally, I've also beat Leon and Cloud in Kingdom Hearts, as well as held off Balio and Sunder in Wyndia Castle long enough for them to flee in Breath of Fire III, netting 110 exp, I think.

Far too many, from various fighting games to Darksiders. What is the point of winning is you immediately lose in the following cutscene?! Just pisses me off.

Does beating Lavos (the first time you see him during 12000 B.C) and the first Golem in Chrono Trigger during New Game+ count?
The first golem? Unless you fight a single regular golem multiple times (I forget), I beat that on my first playthrough >_>

Not so much a boss battle but you remember that game in Final Fantasy X that was kind alike underwater basketball? Remember that pro team that you're supposed to lose to? Yeah, I just barely beat them
The Luca Goers? Yeah, they're monsters. I beat them too, but it wasn't even close to easy. Probably because I got the Jecht Shot.

Outside of gaming, yeah. I have young nephews and nieces and although it is good to teach them humility, it is also good to lose once in a while at whatever you are playing to keep them interesed and wanting to play - not to mention not bitter at you.

However, I really struggle not to play my best, so a few times I have decided I will lose this round or whatever and have ended up winning.

"OK kids, last one then, winner is the champion of the universe" and then I make sure I lose. Only problem is that I make it too obvious and they still complain that I cheat :-(
I've done that, but I've got instances where I let the other person win and my opponent has said "wow...that's it, I'm never playing this game again and I retire defeating you! This will be a blemish on your permanent gaming record!"

It actually stings more than I thought it would. I hate losing, even if I do it on purpose.

Well, in Star Wars: Battlefront II I was able to defeat 60 guys by myself, and once I killed 30 with an armed hovercraft shooting at me and no ammo. The guys kept going into the turret on the hovercraft and all I had was my overheat pistol to constantly kill them as they came in. I also used the pistol the whittle down and eventually destroy the hovercraft, jump out, get ammo and kill the few that were left.

I Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, I put buildings all over the map on single player so that when they attack, they only get the excessive number of buildings I have, and I get lots of resources and unit production to being with.

I'm sure I have done that before more in the example you mention, maybe in Command and Conquer or something. Game developers shouldn't have such blatant oversights in their games.

Happens to me all the time. I get this in Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy games, probably Persona too... Definitely Kingdom Hearts. There are others I'm forgetting...

I beat the Vanguard in the Demon's Souls tutorial, but once you know how to beat him he's actually really easy so i don't actually know if that should count.
That arse killed me.
do you get anything worthwhile for killing him, or is the outcome still the same?

You get an extra Grey Demon soul which is nice, and some healing items and i think a ring too. Nothing all that exciting though. You do get a different death to end up in the Nexus though. Which is pretty cool.

I spent about five hours winning the supposed-to-lose fight against 3 late game bosses early on in Super Robot Taisen Original Generations 2 and I've beaten the one in the Demon's Souls tutorial a couple times.

There's a part in the first mission of Guild Wars when you're faced against a ton of enemies and are expected to run. If you go back with a level 20 character, however, the only challange is beating them all before the timer runs out.

That part in dragon age origins where you rescue the princess chick and then get ambushed at the exit. It took many tries but I finally bullshitted my way through that part and scraped by with barely any health and my whole party dead.

Kratos in ToS in the tower. Obviously Yggdrasil still kicked my ass right after, but still, Kratos ate it.

I know this question may sound stupid to some, but I bring it up because in some games you actually can win a 'supposed to lose fight'. Usually however it ends up with your character losing anyway. Personally I have won two of said fights in games, one in Kingdom Hearts and another in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai. How about you, my fellow escapists?
the easiest one I know about (and only one I've won) is against ASH in Tales of The Abyss
that was a "supposed to loose fight" that's actually very beatable if you do a little grinding before hand

Balio and Sunder on the second encounter in Breath of Fire III. I remember reading somewhere that the first time you encounter them you're not actually fighting anything, just images of them. There's apparently no monster data so it's impossible to kill them or something along those lines.

A long while back I decided to try something; grind out the 9000 gold that Tristram says he'll sell you the Elixir for in Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest. Around the time I got to 4000 gold (think I was level 23 by this point) my game data was corrupted and I never got to finish my goal. It's not so much a "supposed to lose" thing compared to others but I was always interested in seeing if Square put a little easter egg like that in the game.

Also, I'd love to see what happens if you widdle down the Weird Beast's hundreds of thousands of hit points in Star Ocean: The Second Story before Puffy drops the Weird Slayer rather than flee.

At the beginning of every Monster Hunter game, you get a mission to collect an egg. Unfortunatly, you get attacked by the monster on the front cover of the box. With basic equipment, this is a 'run away' situation, if you stand and fight you will lose is the general consensus.
However, after restarting the game, I am loaded with experience on exactly how to fight said monster, and come out on top with shitty equipment regardless.
