Have you ever won a 'supposed to lose fight'?

I've never done it, but it's supposedly possible in Chrono Trigger, and it has it's own ending if you pull it off.

Not sure if it counts as a "supposed to lose fight", but I beat the first encounter with Heavy Lobster in Kirby Super Star in the Revenge of Meta Knight game. Normally you just get blown away after a while and the fight ends, but if you're good with Yo-Yo ability, you can beat him. It's tough though.

I know this question may sound stupid to some, but I bring it up because in some games you actually can win a 'supposed to lose fight'. Usually however it ends up with your character losing anyway. Personally I have won two of said fights in games, one in Kingdom Hearts and another in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai. How about you, my fellow escapists?
Actually, shockingly enough, the only supposed to lose fight I ever won was the last fight in the opening sequence of Demon's Souls, the very first time I played it.

It boggles my mind how I managed it in one of the hardest games I've ever played, but I did.

Tales of Destiny, first time you face Leon. For the main game to progress, you have to lose, but it is possible to beat him with enough grinding and a full stock of a certain attack item. If you defeat him, you get an short little sequence that serves as a hidden ending/game over.

Not so much a boss battle but you remember that game in Final Fantasy X that was kind alike underwater basketball? Remember that pro team that you're supposed to lose to? Yeah, I just barely beat them
Did he game still have you lose?

I don't even remember how I fared against them. Although I would guess I lost because I know I didn't get the Jecht Shot.
Nope, you get the big ass crystal trophy.

Might be redundant, but after two days of trying, I won my championship blitzball match against the Luca Goers in Final Fantasy Ten. And I won't ever again.

Let's see, in Tales of Symphonia I beat four, in the sequel I beat two, and in Kingdom Hearts 1 I beat one.

Suikoden on the psx. An amazing rpg that pisses on anything Sqeenix has put out. At one point a starting party member (I think there were 100 charecters to choose from) has a 1 on 1 duel with his father that is scripted for him to lose.

The guy is way over powered and in the days before gamefaqs etc. you could just accept it was unwinnable. I grinded him up to become an absolute beast and won the fight which can lead to a different story path.
Ah, the Teo vs. Pahn fight. Winning that fight is not impossible, in fact it is the only way to get the Good Ending.

Well, that and recruit all 108 people for your army.

That fight's difficulty depends on whether or not you perfect the Jecht Shot in practice. If you do, they're near-impossible. If you don't, they're pushovers.
Wait, if you have the jecht shot they are hard? What?

Jecht shot is two guaranteed goals if used correctly - I only lost that match without the jecht shot and have never lost with it.

And boss fights wise I can't really think of any
Well, yeah. If you have the Jecht shot, the difficulty increases so that you HAVE to use the Jecht shot to win.

I remember one of the God Of War games or maybe something like it. I had to beat death or someone like that who was supposed to kill me. So I tried my hardest and I killed him, then it said Game Over, try again? I was like WTF? But I still won!

I beat the Vanguard in the Demon's Souls tutorial, but once you know how to beat him he's actually really easy so i don't actually know if that should count.
That arse killed me.
do you get anything worthwhile for killing him, or is the outcome still the same?

It wasn't necessarily a fight I was supposed to lose, but the first time I played KOTOR and ran into the rancor in the sewers I spent about 15 minutes making it walk up and down the room while ducking behind the door and taking pot-shots at it. Had that tube of rancor odor the rest of the game too...

Tales of Symphonia has two. BACK TO BACK.

I've been able to win the first one with the awesome bad-ass but the second one I can never win against the game's 'Big bad'. Beam spam and teleporting for both of them. Expect random deaths of your healer.
