I've only written a couple of fanfics concerning Bleach; one that takes place after the end of the Shinigami arc and one that takes place after Aizen's defeat the and "fitting" Bleach finale.

The first fanfic stars 6 Shinigami who are all from different divisions and are close friends. They were also close friends when they were alive, during the 1920s, and can still remember their lives when they were alive. When the 6 got into an accident and were rescued by Shinigami when Hollows appeared, instead of waiting for medical attention, the leader of the Shinigami, who later becomes a rival to one of the 6 Shinigami, decided instead to take them to Soul Society.

After finding each other in one of Soul Society's districts and learning that they have great potential to be Shinigami, they enroll in the Shinigami Academy. While in the academy, one of the friends finds some notes that once belonged to Kiske Urahara about Hollowfication and controlling the immeasurable power. Hoping to increase their own powers and likelihood of being accepted into the Divisions, they all decided to go through with the procedure. It goes horribly wrong, with the 6 friends nearly killing each other in their Hollow states; they are able to stop and regain control because of their deep connection to one another. After years of training in one of Urahara's secret underground lairs, they are able to control their Hollowfication transformations, graduate from the Academy, and are each recruited into different Division, each capitalizing in their own specialties.

During the reconstruction of Soul Society after Aizen's escape, the 6 are sent to a town south of Karakura Town, to investigate strange Hollow sightings (because of their strength and specialties). It goes on to deal with their own personal dilemmas, potential loves within the group and some other sentimental events that take place in the town.

The second fanfic takes place 25 years after Aizen is deafeated and Ichigo loses his Shinigami and spiritual powers. In this future, Ichigo and Orihime get married and have a son and daughter, Isshin is constantly visiting Ichigo's residence, as well as butting heads with his son and grandson, and despite trying to tell their son and daughter about Soul Society, Shinigami, and Hollows, Ichigo and Orihime decide to keep it a secret for fear of looming danger. Their son, Orichigo, does not believe in Soul Society, Shinigami, and Hollows, though he is able to see and communicate with spirits on a daily basis, yet keeps this to himself.

One day, a Shinigami by the name of Renkia, Rukia and Renji's daughter, arrives in Orichigo's town after several Hollows appear and attack Orichigo. Renkia, and later Orihime, appear and rescue Orichigo and return home to discuss certain matters. Renkia states that there are strange things occurring in Soul Society and that she needs to take Orichigo to Soul Society in order to train him to become a fully fledged Shinigami. While Orichigo initially refuses, he decides to do it as thanks for Renkia saving him and in order to protect his family (mirroring the promise that Ichigo made to Rukia).

The story goes on to introduce new threats that originate in Soul Society and seep into the Real World, as well as Uryu Ishida's daughter, who is a Quincy, the return of Sado "Chad" and Karin Kurosaki, who is now a Shinigami, and some other surprises.

I stopped working on them some time ago, but I might come back and see exactly where I left off.

MUST. READ.

I love batshit bonkers crossover ideas, they're so fun - especially when they work as good stories anyway.

Actually,, there are a ton of Slender Pony stories. If you try to sell yours on slender pony alone, it'll be heavily downvoted. My story at this point is more just a general supernatural mystery story in which Slendy just happens to be a character. I think it worked out for the best. It's called "Stone Parasprites" (named after Narble Hornets) if you want to read.

Yes, I have, no, I'm not going to tell you what for, but I can tell you that it's because I enjoyed writing, (and I still do, I just have less time to do it now) and it was a way of coming up with a story that was easier than making something completely from scratch. The plots I came up with were generally terrible, but I do miss having the time to do something I really enjoy.... other than gaming that is.

I used to be an avid fan-ficcer. I did YuYu Hakusho, Naruto, Katekyo Hitman Reborn... I wrote just because I wanted to write, and fanfiction seemed a good way to start, and it was rather easy because characters, back-stories, and universes were already fleshed out.

I still get quite a few emails telling me new people are following me, or something's been favourited/commented on. I think it's a little strange, since I haven't updated anything in about three years.

I once wrote a fanfiction called Naruto and the Lobster. One of my friends had an unhealthy obsession with fanfiction (specifically Naruto fanfiction) so one day, while I was extremely high, I decided to write one and send it to him. He didn't appreciate it as much as some of my other friends... My laptop died with the original story on it so I don't remember all of it but here's the very condensed version. It remains the only piece of fanfiction I have ever written.

It basically started with Naruto beating up some gangsters in downtown New York. He then went to Central Park for a stroll when he sees a flash of red. Suddenly, there is a lobster in front of him. He thinks it's funny looking and goes to have a closer look. The lobster launches at him, strangles him, and then eats him. That was Naruto's entire part in the story. I just put him in the title to get my friend to read it.

The rest of the story follows the adventures of this super lobster. The lobster discovers after he eats Naruto that he grows much larger every time he eats a living animal. He goes on a rampage through New York until he finds a Red Lobster restaurant and decides to sample what his own species tastes like. He finds it to be the most amazing flavour ever and grows to the size of a large dog. Then the police start shooting at him and he finds that the bullets do hurt him a bit. He runs and eventually falls in love with a beautiful husky at first sight. The husky runs to him but the car from the head of the police (the main antagonist) smashes into her as he's trying to chase the lobster.

This of course sends the lobster into a rage but he has to flee because the head of police has an smg. He climbs the buildings and starts leaping from rooftop to rooftop, heading for the ocean. He escapes to his freedom but with the intention of returning once he was strong enough.

Time fast forwards a year to the police chief (now the mayor of New York) watching the news. The story is that the world's lobster population has seen a startling decrease over the last year. That's when he feels these massive tremors. He looks out his window and sees the ocean in the distance. The lobster has returned only it is now about the size of Godzilla.

It goes on a massive rampage, and eventually kills the mayor. The mayor however had anticipated the lobster's return so he orders in the boiling water bombers right before he dies. The bombers dump millions of gallons of boiling water onto the lobster, cooking it almost instantly. The city of New York feasts on his delicious carcass.

Suddenly, the clouds open up and a giant, lobster claw crushes all of New York State. The claw is attached to a Lovecraftian Horror of a Lobster (referred to in our final minutes as the LHL) who speaks to every single person on Earth telepathically. It explains that it had left its child here so that it may grow from the feasting on all of the living things on the planet. Unfortunately, we murdered it before it had become unstoppable. The LHL voices its extreme displeasure with us and then proceeds start ripping apart our planet.

The LHL then returns to its master, The Supremely Awesome Lobster Commander (SALC). The LHL informs SALC (who is about the size of our sun) that he failed to create another troop for the war against the Crap People. The SALC is displeased but spares the LHL since this war is to close to lose any more troops.

It is revealed that our planet was created by the Crab People to spy on The SALC because our planet was relatively unknown and was near The Lobsters main base of operations. The Crab People now seeing this loss decide that their forces are equal to the Lobster's so they decide to launch an all attack hoping to catch the Lobsters off guard.

It is a massive blood bath of galactic scale and result in the destruction of both parties and our entire galaxy. It is then revealed that both parties were being controlled telepathically by two Supreme Beings of infinite size and power. One takes the form of a Lobster and the other takes the form of a Crab. The two are actually good friends and have just finished their version of chess which resulted in a stalemate.

The End.

Writing a Minecraft one on Fan Fiction.net :p

I'm writing my character's perspective alongside my friends story which is his character's perspective. He is further ahead than me as I have just moved and don't have the time right now to carry on until everything is sorted.

Sort of. I used to write really shity (I thought they were good back then) script to tv show. I actually sent a lot of them to the producers. They never responded.
Also, I actually tried writing a fanfic parody. A my little pony fic parodying yatzhee's novel JAM. I named it GAK.
I am currently stuck and other more important things have gotten in my way right now. But I'll finish some day.

When I was around 11 my sister helped me write a Sonic/Snow White crossover. The characters were all very OOC and the plot didn't make a whole lot of sense, but I remember it being pretty funny.
I actually have quite a few ideas for several fanfics, but I doubt I'll ever write another one. At least not any time soon.

I've considered some ideas, but never wrote them.

Though I do find the characters I fixate on are those who are interesting, with half-told, or untold stories.
It is for that reason I know better, because I've seen most of the works that spring up from that.

That, and I find most fanfiction to be...insulting to my intelligence (to put it politely), and I didn't feel like contributing to the problem.

And again thank you very much for replies! I'll try to read all links as well over weekend :)
I am surprised by diversity of reasons and universes used (some of them I've never heard before). Please, share more if you can, this thread has been very interesting for me to read.

You write fan fiction if you are staying in their universe, playing with the rules they created, and what has been established. If you want to take it, butcher it into your own form, and call it the same product, you're just being lazy to think of your own material. You can fill it with your Mary Sues (Cough Matt Ward cough) and anime-esque emo characters and have fun with that.
If I may ask, how do you define where imagination stops and butchery of universe begins?
I believe the butchery begins when the universe is taken out of its premise. Take example, my Warhammer 40k request, where the writer asked me to write a story where all chaos had disappeared, the orks stopped fighting, the eldar had united and turned peaceful, and the tyranids developed personality.
This is the complete reversal of the given roles that have been developed in 40k as humans are corrupt assholes who love profits and killing others, Chaos is always present, even in its subtlest ways, since the beginning of time, the Orks' mind can only handle two things: killing and more dakka, the eldar are arrogant pricks who use humans as pawns, and the tyranids are a mindless hive mind that exists to consume everything.
If one seeks to write within the guidelines of the universe, they must follow the rules that have been established, and, if they allow slight variation, they are working their imagination into the universe. If their Astartes love all xenos and hate the Imperium, something's a tad bit wrong. But if a Chapter dislikes working with the Inquisition because they nearly ordered Exterminatus on a planet they had control of, it works into the setting.
Essentially, if they want to create something on their own, they need to properly justify their ideas in-universe. It'd be akin to someone writing a story about how Nazis had dinosaurs in WWII. It's extremely bizarre, and anyone reading it for historical context would find it greatly out of place with history. But if they were to write of some marine of the US 90th infantry division storming Utah Beach at D-Day as part of the first wave, it's rather reasonable and works in what has occurred. Historical fiction, I guess you could say, is like fan fiction of history (It's not real, but it fits the setting). The Nazis with dinosaurs is just butchering history, though they made a game out of that...
Thank you for the answer!

But I've heard of fan-made setting of Brighthammer, which is basically a mirror universe to Warhammer (40K, I think). It is very recognizable mirror, but it is built from different roots (i.e. Gods of Order instead of Chaos, etc) and with different premise ("It is a time of high adventure!"). There are many recognizable elements (Emperor, Eldar, Orks) which might look like perversion of Warhammer but their role is justified in-universe. If I may ask again, does a universe as Brighthammer counts as a butchery?

No, not really. I never saw myself as the creative type, and writing fiction was just never something I could do, especially with established characters since I don't know how to act or write "in character". I'm a musician, and I've thought about attempting composition based off of how I might interpret different settings or character designs, but that's not something I would openly show anyone, and it would be lyric-less anyways.

I had friends that were into it, so they'd have me read and critique them when I was in middle school, so I definitely saw fanfiction around me, but I never personally engaged in it.

You could say I've written a few. Of the ones I've actually put up somewhere on the Internet:

- One Resident Evil "alternate universe" story
- Eight World of Warcraft stories starring my characters in various situations
- One World of Warcraft / Thief: Deadly Shadows crossfic (set in WoW, but strongly influenced by the Shalebridge Cradle)
- One Halo story (died out at 1 1/2 chapters)
- Two Oblivion stories (one died out at 2 1/2 chapters)
- Four MLP: FiM stories (one a crossover)

I do write my own original stuff as well, but there's something fun about writing fanfiction; putting established characters in new situations and working out how they'd react is a good writing challenge.
