I've written a Buffy Fanfic (part 1) that never got anywhere and was a bit shit.

A Star Wars fanfic that consisted of Vader killing a pair of jedi post-order 66 (but written before episode 3 came out) - this is posted on fanfiction.net somewhere. i think it has 2 reviews. Both positive. But both from people whose stories I've reviewed first (I think anyway. IDK if its there anymore... prolly not)

And I did E-fedding for ages. That counts as fanfic, right?

Once I started an MLP/WoW fanfic, the idea was just stuck in my head and I find my mind drifting there less if I put it on paper.

I'm working on one now for Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. It's something I came up with completely by mistake one day. It's a play on one location right at the end of the game and the events therein. Without wishing to spoil, I drew a few comparisons to Silent Hill. Less in the scary, devoid-of-life, monster-infested hell-hole aspect, but more that those who enter will have to face the darkest moments of their past before they can leave.

Unfortunately, it's on a bit of a hiatus due to my nonexistent work ethic.

I wrote one for Final Fantasy XI when I was playing it. It was mainly because for one, I love to write, and second, I wanted to do something nice for the Linkshell I was running at the time. I threw in as many of the dedicated players that I could, and tried to tie their in-game personalities to their storyline characters. I really enjoyed it, and it bums me out that my computer fried and I lost the USB drive that I had it backed up on. Oh, well, I guess I'll get around to writing something like it again. lol

I wrote about three chapters of a KOTOR fanfic (Of which only two were uploaded to the world wide web). I had big plans for it but my passion for it kind of died down...And then one day during a Geography lesson I was struck with an idea that now has several thousand years worth of back story and is entirely original...Well, as original as it gets. But it is MY universe.

I'm Currently writing a Fanfic set in the MLP universe, set as in lightlly, since I transformed the ponies into humans in order to take the series in a darker direction, mostly in the way of violence, murder cynicism and other dark stuff. I do my best to maintain all show character essences, so that it can be considered just a regular spinoff. I write fanfics because it is easier to practice when there are people who are into the same stuff as you and therefore are able to help. A lot of people started writing fanfics before they published their novels (50 Shades of Grey and the Mortal Instruments) so it is nice practice.

I'll drop the link in case anyone cares to give the story a readthrough

.........A cthulhu fanfic does count?
>.> wouldn't that be tentacle porn?
Ha, ha, ha, ha, thankfully not XD

And my mistake, I wanted to say a Lovecraft fanfiction, not Cthulhu.

The story start with a man, Eric Nodfield, going to a restaurant to eat. Suddenly in the middle of the restaurant, a giant hole appeared in front of all people inside the room. All the people started to looking at the hole for a mysterious reason, like something hypnotise them. Exept Eric, because he knew about this hole. He already saw this hole numberous time inside his personal nightmares. He knew that he must close his eyes and not look at it because the real horror inside it will come out and devour him, like the others. He knew he was blessed to been a chosen.

A small summary from the beggining from the fanfic I wrote.

Wow, now that I have thought about it, maybe I have when I was a kid.
I am guessing it would have been about Sailor Moon because I was obsessed about the show.
I guess now that I am older I no longer have any imagination or passion to go that far.

Seems interesting, though I donno much about lovecraftian stuff.

the MLP related one more or less focuses on a group of people brought to Equestria via dimensional rifts that dump people into the Everfree forest, (ponyfide of course) and how they delt with it, or that was the plan, in practice its more about an Alicorn I made up, >.> I will need to get back to the others here soon. Yeah the main 6 are there, but there more side characters.

the Gold Digger related one, is a result of my ex, who was my writing buddy, wanting to do something more modern, while i favor a fantasy setting, so we compromised since GD can support high sci-fi and high fantasy with as and with in 10 feet of each other. The story centers on Lucia and Kerra, a pair of thieves ignorant of the fact magic exists. Lucia was a solo artist, and very good at her job. she stole for the thrill of it and to add to her own personal collection, and on rare occasion, money(she also REALLY hates the french). Kerra worked with a team for a 'shady organization' (that we never named for some reason *shrugs*) who went out to retrieve desired items. the twist is, Kerra's employers where secretly experimenting on her, and made her a cyborg with out her knowledge, and Lucia? Lucia stole a crown that turned her into a dragon.

I've actually since retooled Lucia's for a character on the RP forums, same name, same class of dragon, same method of becoming a dragon, different back story though

I've written some fics. I usually do Star Trek or Mass Effect, but when I was young and stupid (well, more stupid than now), I ventured into Harry Potter.
Due to my laconic manner of expressing myself, I usually don't go past 2k words, so it's mostly just some vignettes. I'm good at drabbles (exactly 100 words).

As for cherishing canon so much you don't want to screw with it...
You don't have to.
Research is key in every literary work, be it your dissertation, awesome novel (unless you're Dan Brown. Then disregard this) or just some fanfic. I see no reason not to try and set your story within the established rules of the universe you're writing for.
And if you don't do research, I judge you. Because not doing research is lazy and just shows no respect for the canon.

Lets say with few words that the most works that have some influence from Lovecrafts stuff, is all about madness and Giant Evil Elder Gods that they want every single second to somehow screw the minds of our mortals.
My favourites of Elder Gods is Azathoth. If someone summon Azathoth in our world, Azathoth simple destroy EVERYTHING!!! His work-shippers are simple maniac that want to see their world burn.

This specific one, Azathoth, only with its appearance destroy everything. Azathoth doesn't have any kind of master plan or any kind of high purpose that serve the others Elders Gods, just destruction.
Oh course by hearing that, Azathoth is a cliche of any kind of classic evil villain, destroy the world with no reason.
But for that reason only this god also is called "The Blind Idiot God" XD

If I may ask, how do you define where imagination stops and butchery of universe begins?
-Snip--
Thank you for the answer!

But I've heard of fan-made setting of Brighthammer, which is basically a mirror universe to Warhammer (40K, I think). It is very recognizable mirror, but it is built from different roots (i.e. Gods of Order instead of Chaos, etc) and with different premise ("It is a time of high adventure!"). There are many recognizable elements (Emperor, Eldar, Orks) which might look like perversion of Warhammer but their role is justified in-universe. If I may ask again, does a universe as Brighthammer counts as a butchery?
In my terms, I could technically call it butchery of the 40k universe, as everything is different from what it is supposed to be, yes. But from what I've seen, I take it as an effectual parody of the state of grimdarkness, replacing it with noblebrightness. With that in mind, it is evident to to see that they define the settings that make the universe different, and follow these guidelines with said universe. By making it a parody, it is fine that they are using many of the same ideas and changing them, as parody exists to mock the original work, as they show just how over-the-top grim dark the original 40k universe is. It is evident that they have fun with the matter, as evident with the Angry Marines. Therefore, I find it acceptable for what it does and find the setting generally amusing.

The problem with bad fan fiction is when they try to combine these two settings, but keep trying to fit it within the original 40k, as the two ideas clash with a horrible cacophony that only creates dissonance within the piece, that struggles to fit in the universe. They try to keep it serious.
AP English has taught me to love all grammar and despise it's butchery.

i still write them usually when i'm watching a movie or tv show and i 'm like oh my god i know exactly what's about to happen... oh. then i have to write what i thought should happen and then see if anyone else had the same idea. or if there is a character eluding a darwin award and i feel like i should rectify that.

Not really sure if it counts as a fanfic, but I wrote a re-telling of The King in Yellow. In fact I wrote several versions before deciding that I wasn't a very good writer and gave up.

Yes, I did years ago when I was much younger. 'Twas a Sonic one...

... let us never speak of that horrid pile of crap my younger self spewed onto the internet again.
