Oh gawd, here we go, haters gonna hate!

*middle of thread*
Wait, not everyone hates it...right?

*end of thread*
Oh gawd, it is true! Duke's been messed up!

I haven't played the demo personally, but with so many bad reviews of it, I wonder whether I can be bothered to even put down the deposit required to get it.

Sad to hear the demo was disappointing :-( Thanks for the heads up. I may wait to see a few reviews after release but nostalgia alone won't convince me to pay full whack for it as a new title...maybe in a future Steam sale.

I played this demo earlier.
I knew I wasnt going to get Duke Nukem anyway, but I got Borderlands GOTY so I thought it cant do any harm.
IMO its diar. Terrible. Gun play doesnt feel satisfying at all. Controls felt weird for an FPS. Opens with him pissing in a toilet (am I supposed to laugh and want to play more?) Driving controls were clunky and didnt feel right. And the trailer for it after the demo just felt arrogant and immature.
Yeah the graphics are alright and it did have a fun part on a rail track, but it just left me bored and really disliking it.
IMO IMO IMO.

Not surprised really. I am normally first aboard the hype train but the adverts didn't do it for me. I am seriously disappointed about the weapon system, next you'll tell me you have regenerating health
Yeah. I spent the entire demo hiding behind a wall.

There's also the problem that any game that has been hyped for over 10 years will almost always disappoint.

I'm glad I never got caught up in the hype for this game, there was never much hope.

Good thing I didn't pre-order. Guess I'll stick with playing my usual games -- minecraft and Dungeon fighter online.

I'm more excited for the new Alice game. They both release on the same day, and I'm glad I chose Madness Returns to pre-order.

I don't really think this game had a chance. It's been built up to a god-like status in the past decade, and that's what people will be expecting. Whereas everything I've seen up til now, has just seemed like a generic FPS with humor thrown in.
I still have hope for it, but currently it barely warrants a bargain-bin buy.
I know I'm double posting, but this is the greatest post I've seen in this thread. I am hyping the hell out of Alice: Madness Returns. The story looks... eh, besides the Wonderland aspect. Two Open-World areas, great combat, still puzzle sections... I'm cancelling my Duke preorder and putting the rest on Alice. And I will troll at the Midnight Release.

I think our FPS standards have been distorted by many years of Call of Duty to the point anything different in terms of gameplay mechanics seems unreasonable and awkward. I also think that people's expectations were too high for a game that basically relied on a 15 year old game's premise..

There's a demo? I might try it. Perhaps.

Anyway, I thought this might be the case and perhaps somewhat maliciously hoped it would be. I look forward to the bad reviews. Then we can just leave DNF as a particularly incongruous and embarassing blot in gamings history books.

Anyway, there are other games out soon as well that I'd rather play, so no worries here.

You're limited to just two weapons
Wooooooooow seriously? Now that's the best example of the fucked-up world we live in. Duke with two weapons.

I believe this is Gearbox doing. The only thing they ever did right was Opposing Force. Since then, they only fucked up everything they ever laid their hands on, ESPECIALLY foreign IPs.

Seriously, I remember seeing a DNF gameplay video from just a few years ago and there clearly was a selection of numerous weapons. Afterwards, someone obviously thought 'Ummm, no. This is too much fun. We can't have a fun game at this time and age!'

Well, at least we can look forward to a nice Zero Punctuation episode.
he already did duke nukem forever dont you remember?

Then you'll be pleased to know DNF uses the exact same mechanics as COD.

Really? Wow, this really makes me sad. I was hoping for a return of shooters past. Where you had a large health bar, could take craploads of hits, could carry craploads of weapons, and sprint at 60 miles an hour.
It's kinda the exact opposite to that, man.

I wasn't all that hyped up for Duke in the first place, but even I found the idea that this was 12 years work a bit disappointing.

I honestly don't care how bad or good it is. I'll be getting it no matter what. Not like I'm strapped for cash or anything so whatever.
Cool, then you can buy me a condo.
In the long run, I think everyone can agree it would be a better investment.
I'll just build one out of discarded copies of DNF.
It shall be the manliest yet least appealing condo in the world!

Or just the busts from the Balls of Steel edition.
Heh. Had to search to see the busts you were referring to >.> That would be even worse than just the copies. Unless someone wants to have a bunch of Dukes staring at them.
Imagine the bathroom... Dukes staring at your girlfriend creeping her out until you're single...

Really? I admit I was unaware of that even though I've seen gameplay trailers. That's sad, considering that Serious Sam 3 will probably be shifting in the same direction too.

EDIT: LOL thumbs up for having the same reaction as Irridium ^^

I found the demo really fun. Especially for an incredibly outdated build.

My pre-order stands.

Meh I'll still rent it. I seriously doubt the game is terrible but I know it will have zero replay value besides collectables, Easter-eggs and achievements.

(And lets not forget the most likely sub par multi-player)
