Someone who's been loudly advocating how bad Duke Nukem was going to be discovers that Duke Nukem is bad. Interesting... FoxNews, wanna pick up the story?

heh, Captcha: accurate issinfo
I guess Captcha agrees with you.

I honestly don't care how bad or good it is. I'll be getting it no matter what. Not like I'm strapped for cash or anything so whatever.
Cool, then you can buy me a condo.
In the long run, I think everyone can agree it would be a better investment.
I'll just build one out of discarded copies of DNF.

I didn't expect the game to be good. It's been in development for far too long to be anywhere near the current gen's standards on how a game looks and plays. The game would be in development for another year and a half if they truly wanted to snuff it up to standard, but they're just trying to get the game out at this point.

What disappointed me is that they strayed from what the old Duke formula was.

It shall be the manliest yet least appealing condo in the world!

Or just the busts from the Balls of Steel edition.

Duke 'GURUNT's every time you jump in exactly the same way, to the point of it getting on your nerves.
I've got to say the Gearbox's "Borderlands" did the same thing and it drove me nuts. Who the hell thought that no one would get annoyed by the same grunt noise every time you jump or land? Plus I was constantly falling asleep playing the game solo because of the background music.
Borderlands aside, back to Duke!
I won't be surprised if this game turns out to be a huge disappointment. It's taken longer than Axl Rose to hit the stores, even when it finally became a real game it's been held back repeatedly. And I tend to suspect any product when this much advertisement gets thrown around. My personal formula for speculation: The more ads that get put out in comparison to how long the demo's been out, plus how much time is left before release, can be a good indication about just how many kernels of corn are in this turd.

Really? Wow, this really makes me sad. I was hoping for a return of shooters past. Where you had a large health bar, could take craploads of hits, could carry craploads of weapons, and sprint at 60 miles an hour.

From what I hear, it has more in common with current shooters.

God dammit.

Well, at least there's Serious Sam. Hopefully that'll be the return we've been waiting for.

It made my friend cry, and it filled my mouth with the bitter and disgusting taste of built-up plaque.

Thank God Almighty for BFE, I suppose.

It is essentially the opposite of that xD

I was getting merked by two enemies at a time.

Heh. Had to search to see the busts you were referring to >.> That would be even worse than just the copies. Unless someone wants to have a bunch of Dukes staring at them.

Am I alone in seeing this, not as a game that has had a 14 year development period, but as a game that has had a standard 2-3 year development period, using the brand of a project that actually died some time around 2002?

Just saying...

That's disappointing, though not exactly surprising. Gearbox is generally a pretty good dev group, but Duke Nukem is a dead franchise

Tis a shame, really. Then again, perhaps this is some attempt at trolling. Who knows?

I may pick it up some other time though, when the price drops.

I paid off my pre order of the BOS edition but now I think when I pick it up (also picking up Alice) I shall wait and think about it first. I don't really have a disposable income right now just lots of money. I might return it, might not, maybe I'll check out the reviews first.

Since they only had the game 18 months or so, probably worse than that.
I see the point of course, but I'm of the belief that scrapping what 3D realms had spewed up onto the plate would have been a much healthier starting point.

Well thats... disappointing to say the least. I wonder if Gearbox added all these elements or if they were added by 3d realms before they go under. I will try to demo myself and make my own judgement, but so far I have heard a few people echo your concerns...

Whatever, just wash your hands.
well, I wasnt that impressed with it but Im still not sure if Im gonna cancel my preorder or not, I mean its duke but the gun play was kinda meh, shooting things certainly lacked umph also and they managed to make running into enemies in a monster truck boring, not to mention that I think the aspect ratio was fucked up for me and all the post processing things it does actualy get in the way of the games graphics, someone needs to tell devs to cool it with depth of field

I really wanted to like this but Im just kinda feeling.... unimpressed about the whole thing now, I guess Ill wait for some reviews before I totally write if off tho, at least we still have serious sam 3 to look forward to

To put it bluntly I came away from the 20 odd min experience thinking "well that was bad" but not in the fun, nostalgic, good old days, so bad its good bad.... just plain bad

Which is disapointing but not unexpected, I must admit the second I started playing it it felt old but dressed up. Like your grandmother decided to put on her best and hit the club scene for the first time in 45 years. Sadly the dress they chose is brown and featureless.

There were a few amusing moments, sadly they had nothing to do with the game but just pissing about (literally in some cases) in the opening room. And the poking fun at itself humor that came occasionally, like the loading screen that said "picking up poo doesnt reduce ego, as much as we wanted it to", and I did like "duke vision" as absurd as it was, and that on death you see shattered shades.

But all that just couldn't save it from being just, plain, bad!

I dunno I guess I walked away thinking (setting aside regenerative health... oh im sorry "ego" and a few other tropes) Duke hasn't changed... and no thats not the good thing we were all hoping it would be

I'm more excited for the new Alice game. They both release on the same day, and I'm glad I chose Madness Returns to pre-order.

I don't really think this game had a chance. It's been built up to a god-like status in the past decade, and that's what people will be expecting. Whereas everything I've seen up til now, has just seemed like a generic FPS with humor thrown in.
I still have hope for it, but currently it barely warrants a bargain-bin buy.

I don't mean it to sound harsh, but really, when this demo goes open people are going to be massively dissapointed. Duke dies faster than just about any FPS character, you're limited to just two weapons, everything in the demo is brown... and it uses Half Life 2 meele. Seriously, you whack at something that doesn't respond or flinch in any way.

The humour is there, which is what I was relying on, but the context its presented in just doesn't hold up. Duke 'GURUNT's every time you jump in exactly the same way, to the point of it getting on your nerves, and I find myself frightfully reminded of that cliche list of "first person shooter tropes". You know the ones, regenerating health, faux cover system, crouch, limited weapons, tiny health, ineffective meele...

I'm sure there are plenty of people who WANTED Duke to be a straight faced Call of Duty style shooter using familiar elements to everything post-Gears. A majority of people who genuinly cared though would be hoping for something more nostalgic, colourful and... well, fun.
As a perfect demonstration, I suggest watching Zero Punctuations 'Bulletstorm' review again.
I agree with you sir. I finished the demo this morning and was very disappointed by the look and feel of the game. Youd think after so much time being put into it there'd be more to it.
